(Male protagonist's perspective)
Not long after I settled into the tent, the rustling sound at the door announced Lord Stark's arrival. His expression was a mixture of annoyance and confusion, and his demeanor reflected his emotions.
"Just when I thought you might have learned some manners and reason, you went to great lengths to show the opposite. Why did you openly insult him? Don't you understand that such treatment of a nobleman is unacceptable?"
My answer was very tactful, and my tone was respectful yet firm.
"I understand what that means, my lord. Please allow me to remind you that I am already considered a nobleman. King Robert, ruler of the Seven Kingdoms, acknowledged me as a hero of the North, and at the post-war celebrations, he made it clear that he intended to bestow upon me noble status after this tournament."
Lord Stark slumped angrily into his chair, letting out a sigh. "While that may be true, why should we jeopardize our relationship with the Vale and House Royce over a piece of armor of little value?"
I explained gently.
"The armor's significance transcends its material value. While I am interested in its magical properties, my primary reason for provoking this is Yohn Royce's blatant disregard for our faith. Although I myself am not a devout believer, I cannot tolerate such an insult to our beliefs and traditions. My lord, remember that while the people of other parts of Westeros may appear friendly on the surface, their true intentions towards us are far from benevolent."
"I know they don't understand us, but they won't be rude."
"Typical derogatory terms—'tree-hugging savage,' 'beast,' 'rude dog.' These are their hidden opinions of us. While they admire our strength in conflict, once peace is restored, they revert to their usual views. I may possess the power to conquer thousands, but my aim is to use that power to improve the North. To achieve this, they must acknowledge that I am more than just their opponent. In this contest, I intend to defeat anyone who dares to challenge me. I yearn to create a legend."
Lord Stark's composed demeanor did not conceal his awareness of the larger political dynamics. Although he had connections with both the King and the Hand of the King, he was not unaware of the prevailing sentiment in the North.
I went on to assert. "My actions are not merely an expression of discontent. They are part of a larger plan; the web I have woven is so vast that it will become clearer years from now. Know that everything I have done is ultimately aimed at advancing and strengthening the North."
Of course, I did not reveal my intention to rally the Mountain Clans against the Vale. This strategy contradicted his strict code of honor. The Vale's terrain was indeed a challenge, but the hidden objective was to unite the tribes under one banner and launch a campaign against the Vale. The groundwork had been laid, but achieving the goal would require years of careful planning and execution.
Regarding my decision regarding the heirloom armor, I clarified. "Yes, I intend to accept the heirloom armor. After an examination, I may choose to return it. My interest lies in studying it and deepening my understanding of magical knowledge."
Lord Stark's face was filled with doubt. "Magic knowledge? Could you explain in detail?"
"This is the pursuit of magic in its purest form, without elemental or dark attributes. Our manipulation of magic power or spells often transforms them into elemental magic or Darkness Magic."
Lord Stark rubbed his temples, trying to absorb the complex information. "I admit, it's quite perplexing."
He sighed again, and said wearily, "As a teenager, this is a challenge in itself, but your situation complicates things. Your ability to eliminate thousands requires restraint. You can't rely on brute force alone."
I replied earnestly, "My lord, my actions towards Lord Royce were not merely intended to humiliate him. While it is not yet time to reveal the truth, there is a broader meaning behind them. Rest assured, all my efforts are for the improvement of the North and the strengthening of North power."
There is an unspeakable truth between us, and Lord Stark's understanding of the political landscape has given us some insight, although fully revealing the truth remains a long way off.
The tournament entered its second round, and my opponent was Jason Mallister —a man respected for his courage and honor. Unlike my match against Royce, I had no intention of humiliating Mallister, for his conduct and manners were truly admirable.
As we took our positions, Mallister removed his helmet and placed his fist over his heart in salute. I followed suit, admiring his dignified manner. Lord Mallister's brown hair was streaked with white, but his blue eyes remained bright and piercing. His indigo armor was adorned with silver ornaments, and the eagle emblem on his helmet was a testament to his chivalry and his trademark.
The clang of our charge echoed across the arena. My lance struck Mallister's shield, shattering it. His counterattack landed on my right shoulder, but a quick twist deflected the full force, leaving his lance unscathed. Mallister successfully held his seat, averting a fall from his horse.
The cheers of the crowd echoed in the air, exhilarating. I picked up my new lance, ready to charge again. This time, my target was his head, but he deftly dodged to the side, avoiding my strike. At the same time, I blocked his attack with my shield. His skill was evident; it was a challenge that required my full concentration. However, on our third exchange, I managed to strike him squarely in the chest, pulling him off his horse.
I quickly dismounted and reached out to help him up. He accepted my gesture, stood up, and we raised our hands together in a celebratory gesture, drawing cheers from the crowd. I saluted him, placing my fist over my heart, and praised him.
"A splendid duel, Lord Mallister. It is truly an honor."
Mallister opened his helmet and said with a smile.
"It is my honor, Sword of Winter."
He returned the salute to the king, paid his respects, and then left the arena. My admiration for him grew. As the tournament progressed, Jorah Mormont defeated " The Strongboar " Lyle Crakehall, Jaime Lannister defeated Hewett, Hosteen Frey defeated Boros Braun, the Lord Frey the Late.
Boros Braun's defeat determined my next opponent.
From the arena to the banquet hall, the atmosphere shifted dramatically. The passion of competition was replaced by the allure of friendship. The contestants shed their armor and donned festive attire, a visual symbol of their dual identities as warriors and celebration participants. Inside the hall, tapestries depicting the legendary history of House Lannister adorned the walls, highlighting the grandeur of this event.
King Robert sat at the head of the hall, his cheerful laughter ringing out once more; his capacity for laughter and pleasure remained undiminished. The long table was laden with a dazzling array of delicacies, awaiting the arrival of the guests. The rich aroma of roast meats, sumptuous stews, and freshly baked bread filled the space, whetting the appetites and igniting eager anticipation.
Everyone spoke freely, eliminating barriers between them and foreshadowing the establishment of new connections. The clinking of glasses, accompanied by whispers, toasts, and laughter, highlighted the joyous atmosphere of the feast. As alcohol flowed across some tables, fists, aided by liquid courage, began to speak.
Although the fervor of the tournament may have subsided by this day, the evening's celebrations hold their own allure. Noble lords and ladies, renowned knights, and distinguished guests share the bonds of friendship that only such gatherings can foster. The next chapter of the tournament will unfold tomorrow, but for now, the Great Hall of Casterly Rock has become the heart of the revelry, a place where tradition and celebration intertwine.
