Andrew Locke's sunroom is cleverly decorated with symbols and artifacts reflecting his beliefs, including an exquisite silver Seven-Pointed Star hanging above his weirwood desk and a small altar in one corner of the room bearing the image of the Seven. The juxtaposition of North traditions and the Faith of the Seven creates an interesting cultural fusion in the sunroom, reflecting the lord's commitment to his religious beliefs and the ancient customs of the region, as his ancestors had been devotees of the Old Gods.
Aermir, Eddard Stark, and Andrew Locke gathered around the central wooden desk for a tense meeting.
Eddard Stark spoke first, with his characteristically cautious tone. "My lords, we must find a way to resolve the conflict surrounding the Three Sisters. Our differences only weaken the Kingdom. Perhaps we can seek a peaceful solution."
Aermir's impatience was well concealed, and he firmly replied, " Lord Stark, I have no ill will toward the Vale. However, the lords of the Vale's Three Sisters have attacked my lands, and they must pay the price for their actions. I will not hesitate to act until all five islands, including Paps and Pebble, are under my rule."
Eddard attempted to mediate and find common ground between the two sides, but Aermir's resolve remained unwavering. Andrew Locke, a staunch believer in the Seven, could not conceal his passive-aggressive behavior. His eye contact with Aermir revealed clear disapproval, a clash of territorial ambitions that had been brewing in the meeting. Andrew spoke angrily.
" Paps and Pebble? Lord Drasil, your ambitions are truly boundless, aren't they? I know you are angry, which is why you slaughtered innocent believers, but there should be a limit to your ambitions. What did the inhabitants of those islands do to you?"
Aermir said in a cold tone,
"It's nothing."
At that moment, Old Lord Andrew slammed his fist on the table, his old bones trembling as if he were about to collapse.
"My lord, you saw it, you saw his wanton behavior. I beg you, my lord, you must do something about Lord Drasil."
Just as Andrew was about to continue, Aermir interrupted him.
"The islanders did nothing to me, but their lord did. It seems you, like the other members of the Faith of the Seven, turn a blind eye to the actions of your fellow believers. The hypocrisy of people like you baffles me. They have the right to attack me, but I cannot attack them."
Andrew was unaware that the lords of Paps and Pebble had attacked Aermir's men. He was also humiliated by his own words. The atmosphere in the meeting room remained tense throughout the discussion. Eddard tried to mediate and appease Aermir, but to no avail, as Aermir remained determined to maintain control of the islands. Torn between loyalty to the core sect of the Three Sisters and the North, Andrew remained silent after the humiliation. However, his body language revealed his displeasure with Aermir's expansionist actions.
Eddard Stark, Warden of the North, stood on the rugged shore of the Oldtown, the cold sea wind brushing against his face. His fur-trimmed cloak billowed in the wind, and the House Stark wolf crest was emblazoned on his chest. Though weary, his dark eyes held a hint of wavering resolve.
The recent meeting with Aermir left him with a heavy heart. Aermir's intentions were clear—peaceful negotiations were impossible. What began as a dispute over the Three Sisters had now escalated into a complex struggle, with the conflict between the Seven and the Old Gods adding an unsettling element to the conflict.
Eddard could not simply issue orders to his vassals to distance themselves from the impending conflict. The Vale lords had already laid siege to the Three Sisters, and the situation was rapidly spiraling out of control. The repercussions of this turmoil extended far beyond the islands themselves. It had become a matter of faith and power, and Eddard found himself entangled in a complex web of alliances and rivalries.
As he walked through the courtyards of the Oldtown, his thoughts churned in a storm of uncertainty. He had sworn to maintain peace and protect the North, but the reality before him harshly reminded him how fragile those vows were. This was no longer a matter of political maneuvering, but a clash of belief systems.
Eddard knew that the North families, such as the House Karstark, House Umber, and House Flint, and even some of the Mountain Clans, had pledged their men to Aermir's cause. The Skagosi had also sent their warriors, striving to seek forgiveness from the Old Gods for their past sins.
With every step he took, he faced numerous choices. He had to consider the people he led, the beliefs he upheld, and the complex political dynamics of the kingdom. The North's loyalty to its Protectors, the House Stark, was deeply ingrained, and he had a responsibility to ensure their interests were protected.
Eddard climbed the steps of the Oldtown Town Hall, where ancient stone walls bore witness to centuries of history. The hall was dimly lit, the only source of light being the flickering torches, which cast dancing shadows on the flags hanging from the rafters.
The North is on the brink of a conflict that transcends the kingdom's borders. If he pushes his vassals too far, it will provoke a backlash; he wants peace, but if that's not possible, he'd prefer the North to win the conflict.
In the heart of Longsister, the Vale Army, under the command of Yohn Royce, prepared to meet Aermir's impending attack. The soldiers were resolute, disciplined, and focused on their objective. Their camp was bustling with activity, and every task was meticulously planned.
The soldiers gathered around their commander, maps and strategies laid out before them. Yohn Royce, an experienced and unwavering leader, stood in the center, his stern face reflecting the gravity of their situation. When he issued his orders, his voice carried across the crowd, his resolute gaze unwavering. They were there to protect their believers.
Construction workers erected wooden barricades, reinforcing the island's vital positions. New archers and crossbowmen underwent rigorous training; their arrows became increasingly accurate. Sharpened stakes were driven into the sand, ready to defend against any potential invasion. The Vale's formidable infantry, armed with spears and shields, stood firm in their formation.
Twenty warships were anchored along the island's coastline, their crews on high alert. They formed a naval barrier, unlikely to yield easily to the opposing fleet. Scouts patrolled the surrounding waters, gathering intelligence and remaining vigilant for any trace of Aermir's forces.
The aftershocks of the first naval battle left behind a horrific scene. The combined forces of the Three Sisters people and the Vale Lords had been annihilated. Their drifting ships were lifeless, and many succumbed to relentless hunger. Despair spread among them, and the harsh conditions led some to consider escape.
However, the relentless pursuit of Rep and his pod of orcas made escape nearly impossible. Those who dared to flee were relentlessly hunted, their hopes for survival extinguished by the aquatic predators.
As the surviving lords huddled aboard their warships, their desperate attempts to sabotage them were thwarted by a sudden swarm of rats. Guided by the extraordinary coordination of Wannian and Jilim, these creatures launched a swift and relentless attack. The ensuing chaos was horrifying, filled with death and terror. An army of 180 rats crawled out from every corner of the ship, attempting to halt their advance.
The lords of the Three Sisters, Paps, and Pebble found themselves the target of an army of rats. Guided by their extraordinary intelligence, the rats stormed the ships, their sharp teeth tearing at flesh and bone. Screams and the strange gnawing sounds of the rats echoed across the turbulent sea.
On the blood-soaked deck, Wannian and Jilim communicated effortlessly through telepathy, ensuring precise and coordinated strikes. The survivors, who had once harbored thoughts of destruction, now faced an even more merciless fate under the claws of the relentless attackers.
They had been adrift at sea for weeks, their bodies very weak, but not entirely helpless. After the initial shock, the soldiers and lords began to fight back and successfully killed most of the rats. Both sides suffered heavy losses. While Lord Pryor and some of his men were killing some rats, a black rat jumped down from the mast and tore off the neck of one of his men, from which blood gushed.
Lord Pryor cornered the black rat, but in the blink of an eye, it vanished into the shadows at the base of the mast. Lord Pryor could hardly believe his eyes. He slowly approached the shadow, but there was nothing there. He turned to leave, when a gigantic black rat leaped out of the shadows, biting off his ankle and ripping his Achilles tendon. Lord Pryor screamed in pain and fell to the ground. The rat was larger than a cat, standing on two legs as if posing; the magic flowing through its body had grown Wannian and Jilim, just like every familiar of Aermir. Lord Pryor frantically swung his sword, trying to keep his distance from Wannian.
"How dare you attack my head! You are utterly powerless against my ninjutsu."
An angry female voice appeared in Wannian's mind.
"Stop fooling around, let's fight. Didn't Master forbid you from speaking like that and from viewing his memories?"
"To follow my ninja way and serve my master, I must defy him. I need sacred knowledge to continue my ninja training. Shadow Vanishing Jutsu."
Hidden in the shadows for Wannian, he circled Lord Pryor once, then struck him in the neck, killing him.
"You're not a ninja, you idiot; this is magic."
"Shh, sister, don't disrespect my path as a ninja, or ignore my efforts and training."
After some time, all sounds on the ship ceased except for the clatter of rats gnawing on the corpses. About a day later, Aermir's warships appeared on the horizon, swooping down to seize the damaged vessels left behind by the rodent attack. Although these warships were battered and bruised, they were valuable spoils for Aermir's forces. They would be transported to Sweetsister, where skilled craftsmen would repair the damage, ensuring that these warships, now under Aermir's control, could once again sail the seas.
