When I began this war, I decided not to show my magic to anyone, but as I fought every day, I realized that without magic, I alone could not stop so many people. Even if I had enough physical strength, my influence would be greatly diminished if they remained indifferent to me.
However, if I use at least a few familiar spells that don't look like magic, my deterrent effect in war will increase, and the other soldiers will be more likely to obey my commands.
If I hadn't announced that I was a Warg, Jory probably wouldn't have listened to me, because as a Warg, I knew the enemy's actions and plans, while they didn't. After they knew I was Warg, the soldiers started to treat me differently.
While fighting the followers of the Seven at Winterfell, I became proficient in both swordsmanship and archery, and the soldiers also knew I was a Warg, which led them to give me a new name. Most called me " The Sword of the Old Gods."
Following the Crow, Bo finally watched it pass through the Ironborn army and roost in an abandoned windmill on the shore. Of the three people waiting by the water, one immediately came in, looked at the information on the Crow, mounted his horse, and set off to catch up with the advancing Ironborn army. When he reached the army, he handed the information to the big man, whose banner was a white flag with red and black nettle whips.
Since I couldn't remember who this emblem belonged to, I used the " Appraisal " function. Instantly, information about the emblem flooded my mind. The House Tawney of Oak Island is a noble family in the Iron Islands, one of the strongest families sworn to Pyke. But this person couldn't be Balon Tawney, and their forces couldn't be so small. As far as I know, he's around 40 years old, but this person is very young, about 20. He must be his son or a relative.
The Ironborn's troops rested about 5 kilometers from Deepwood Motte. The members of the House Tawney sat down under a tree, began reading the message, and then turned to the people around them and spoke.
"The numbers have decreased more than we anticipated, but a support force of 2,000 soldiers will arrive in 5-7 days. Until then, we must destroy everything."
" Daryn, are you sure we can trust this person?"
"If you could bring him 200 golden dragons, Broddin Hall would sell his mother."
"Are you really going to give him that much gold?"
"Of course, if I don't give it to him, we can't use this trick anymore. However, after giving him the money, he will encounter an unpredictable problem: he might run into a gang of robbers and die a horrible death."
I explained our plans for tomorrow to Jory, and he accepted them but made some modifications. Jory pointed out many shortcomings in my plans, and I realized that I still had a lot to learn and that being a history enthusiast didn't make me a general. When I was on Earth, my father was a farmer, so I grew up in the countryside. In the countryside, there's usually not much to do after 5 p. m., so the History Channel and books were my only friends in the evenings.
The first rays of dawn began to pierce the eastern hills and forests, shining towards Deepwood Motte. A commotion and panic rose above the wooden walls as everyone rushed to their the Wall. The Ironborn army was now clearly visible, numbering approximately 2600-2800. The Ironborn also carried 25-30 siege ladders exceeding 10 meters in length. Since the Wall of Deepwood Motte were no higher than 10 meters, these ladders could easily scale the Wall.
( Daryn Tawney's perspective)
Our soldiers have almost no experience in sieges, so many of them don't know what to do. We usually loot quickly and then retreat, but today our mission is not to loot, but to cause as much destruction as possible. One of my commanders came over and said to me.
"My lord, should we signal Broddin to open the city gates?"
"Are you stupid? Why would we waste our trump card at such a useless moment? If we use Broddin now, we can get him to open the gates, but we only have Broddin and his personal guard, at most fifty men. All the North troops will be heading towards the West Gate. Yes, now that the gates are open, we can crush them, but we'll lose a lot of soldiers needlessly."
I put the helmet on the table and sat down.
"We're not making a last-ditch effort, so there's no need to push ourselves too hard. What we need to do is resolve this before their reinforcements arrive."
"What should we do, sir?"
"We plan to attack the North Gate with the majority of our forces, sending only 700 men to the West and South Gates. It seems our main attack point is the North Gate. However, we will launch a general offensive when the enemy begins to concentrate their attention and forces on the North Gate."
(From Jory Cassel's perspective)
I hoped our plan would work, but my father always said that plans only work when swords clash, and then the soldiers' will determines the outcome of the battle. My father was never known for his tactical thinking, but he was famous for his indomitable spirit.
The Ironborn army, stationed outside the range of the arrows, was slowly forming its main force and advancing towards the north, with approximately 700 soldiers advancing towards the west gate. Were they about to use Broddin? Of these 700 soldiers, half advanced towards the west gate, while the other half continued towards the south gate.
At that moment, I understood their intentions; their actions suggested that the main attack point was the North Gate. If I hadn't known their initial plan, I would have certainly fallen into their trap, concentrating most of my soldiers at the North Gate. But thanks to Aermir's reconnaissance and his magical pet, we learned that we had a spy among us and what their planned attack was.
