I Bet He Thought I Was a Pervert
Wen Ce pushed the door open and came in with a gust of cold wind.
The girl who had been crouching in front of the vending machine abruptly shot to her feet as if startled.
Her jumpy reaction startled Wen Ce.
He froze for a moment and looked at the girl, meeting a pair of beautiful, bright eyes.
Only, those eyes seemed to dart about, afraid to meet his gaze.
Then Wen Ce saw shyness in them.
Zhao Li's voice came through the communicator in his ear. "Wen, that girl had just bought something when you went in..."
Wen Ce looked down at what had fallen to the floor when she stood up.
Noticing his gaze, the girl seemed to startle. She suddenly ducked her head, raised her hands to cover her face, and ran out.
"Hey," Wen Ce called, wanting to stop her. She had forgotten her purchase.
But he would have been better off keeping quiet. The moment he spoke, the girl ran even faster.
The door she had pushed open soon swung shut, leaving only a gust of cold wind.
Wen Ce glanced at the now-empty doorway, then at the box abandoned on the floor.
"Get back here. The target's almost here," Luo Cheng said gravely.
Wen Ce sighed, walked over to pick up the abandoned item, then turned and went out.
He had only just gotten into the car when the red dot marking the target appeared at the end of the street, then stopped.
The other two in the car were staring fixedly at the computer.
Wen Ce, on the other hand, held the thing in his hand up to the light and glanced at it. "Three settings," "Comfort," "Pleasure," "Women's ***."
He reached up and rubbed the tip of his nose, a little embarrassed. No wonder the girl had been too embarrassed to take it. Was it because he had suddenly walked in?
Meanwhile, Luo Lianqing, who had just fled the twenty-four-hour shop, felt as though her whole body was about to catch fire.
Why? Why did embarrassing things have to happen!
Why? Why didn't a place that sold this sort of thing have bags?
Why! Why had I forgotten to take it! How could I have left it there?
Aaaah, I paid 168 yuan for that!
Her slipper-clad feet moved rapidly. As she passed an intersection, she even saw a man wearing a backpack talking on the phone.
He glanced at her as she ran past. He probably thought she was dressed too strangely!
But all Luo Lianqing wanted right then was to get home quickly. She hoped that guy hadn't gotten a good look at her face!
But that guy did look a little familiar, didn't he?
Another half hour passed. They watched the young man on the surveillance feed open a cabinet in the shop, put something behind a CQ doll, then look around. He glanced toward the surveillance camera, quickly lowered his head, and walked out.
"He probably still doesn't know we've hacked their cameras. This guy's a fucking genius, thinking of exchanging stuff here," Zhao Li muttered. "This is a first for me..."
Wen Ce watched the man walk off. The red dot stopped across from them, and he opened his mouth in a yawn. "Can I go now? I'm adjusting my sleep schedule. Classes start in a few days!"
Zhao Li chuckled. "Off you go, sir!"
Luo Cheng smiled too. "Thanks for the hard work. We can handle the rest."
Wen Ce stood on no ceremony. "I'm off."
Then he said goodbye to the man in the driver's seat, who had remained silent the whole time. "I'm heading out, Brother Hei."
The man called Brother Hei nodded.
"Hey, take your stuff with you." Zhao Li stopped him from getting out and stuffed the "Women's ***" he had brought out into his hand.
Wen Ce glanced at it, rather speechless. "No, that girl dropped this earlier. Put it back later and see if she comes back for it!"
With that, he got out and left.
Looking at the closed car door, Zhao Li muttered, "How'd he know it was a girl? Bundled up that tightly!"
Of course Wen Ce knew she was a girl. Her flustered behavior and those eyes made it obvious at a glance that she wasn't very old. Besides, he kept feeling that those eyes looked familiar...
He stretched, then jogged toward the residential complex a short distance ahead, completely unaware that he was heading in the same direction Luo Lianqing had just run.
Wen Ce had only moved into the complex two days earlier. Before that, he had always lived in the dorms, but because of the special nature of his work, he wasn't particularly close to any of his roommates. Mainly, he wasn't very good at socializing either.
Besides, they would be starting the second semester of their junior year when classes resumed. After some thought, Wen Ce had moved out ahead of time.
Otherwise, he wouldn't have felt very comfortable staying in the dorms either.
When Wen Ce went upstairs and opened his door, he noticed that the lights in the apartment opposite were still on.
His neighbor across the hall seemed to have moved in recently too. He hadn't seen them come out yet.
As if afraid the opposite door might suddenly open, Wen Ce quickly pushed his own door open and slipped inside.
After shutting the door, he let out a breath of relief. He actually didn't much like dealing with people he knew. It made him feel a little nervous.
Because of this, his university classmates all thought he was rather aloof, and he rarely joined in group activities either.
Still, university was much better than high school or middle school. At least Wen Ce didn't feel excluded. After all, everyone was fairly mature now and didn't have so many childish ideas.
Wen Ce walked into his room and sat down at his computer desk. The desktop was very tidy, with only a computer and two photo frames.
One held a photo of him with his parents, and the other a photo of two little girls.
He picked up the photo of the two girls. The taller one wore a radiant smile, while the smaller one smiled shyly.
Wen Ce's gaze settled on the taller girl. Looking at her eyes, he finally remembered why the eyes of the girl he had just encountered had seemed so familiar.
Those eyes were at least ninety percent like the little girl's eyes in the frame!
He reached out and tapped the little girl in the photo. "Was it a coincidence? Or have I found you?"
At that moment, he had no idea that in the apartment opposite his, a beautiful girl was rolling around on her bed with a face full of frustration. She had changed out of her bulky rabbit pajamas. With the heating on indoors, she wore only a close-fitting set of short pajamas.
They outlined the perfect curves of her figure beautifully. Her legs were impossibly long, their lines perfect.
She rolled around, kicking her legs. "Miaomiao, I never knew a person could actually suffer this much social death! I'm seriously going crazy!"
A voice thick with sleep came from the other end of the phone. "Luo Lianqing, are you nuts? It's two in the freaking morning! Instead of sleeping, you went to a twenty-four-hour vending machine to buy that thing? What would you have done if you'd run into a pervert!"
Luo Lianqing stopped rolling and lay flat on the bed, her waist slender, her legs long, her chest rising and falling.
She looked at the pale yellow light overhead. "But I don't dare go during the day either..."
Her voice was a little weak. "I bet he thought I was a pervert."
The other end fell silent for a moment. "You really do seem like one. That's not unfair at all!"
Luo Lianqing let out a wail of social death. "Somebody save me!"
