You can die of embarrassment, but it shouldn't happen over and over
As the door opened, Wen Ce went completely numb.
A very pretty face appeared in the doorway. The girl had delicate, doll-like features, with lovely almond-shaped eyes, a dainty nose, and a small mouth hanging slightly open beneath it.
Only, at that moment, her expression was filled with terror.
Wen Ce's gaze settled on those beautiful, large eyes.
The first thought that flashed through his mind was that she really was as pretty as he had imagined.
His second thought was, This is so awkward.
Luo Lianqing was beside herself. She had thought it was her best friend, Miaomiao, so she had opened the door without the slightest hesitation.
Why was the cute guy she had run into earlier standing at her door?!
The atmosphere grew a little awkward.
In the end, Luo Lianqing couldn't stand it anymore and spoke softly. Her posture was defensive, her head poking out while her body remained behind the door inside. "Hello, do... do you need something?"
Only then did Wen Ce lift the bag in his hand a little awkwardly. "Uh, hello. I'm your neighbor across the hall. I wasn't paying attention when I picked up my package earlier and accidentally took the wrong one, so I brought it back to you."
Luo Lianqing reached out to take the bag from him, feeling a little relieved and rather thankful. I was wearing a mask, so he probably didn't recognize me, right? "It's fine. Thank you for bringing it over."
The bag felt a little heavy. She was just about to take a look when the tall, slim, fair-skinned young man before her spoke even more awkwardly. "Since I didn't look closely, I accidentally opened it too. If you mind, I can compensate you."
At that point, Luo Lianqing still had no idea how serious the situation was. Without giving it much thought, she said, "It's all right. You just picked up the wrong package. I didn't buy anything expensive anyway. It's really fine."
Wen Ce fell silent for a moment, hesitating over whether to tell her what was inside. It was something quite private. If she minded, he could compensate her so she could buy a new one.
But if he said it out loud, the already awkward atmosphere would become even more awkward.
Just then, the elevator dinged.
A petite girl with short hair stepped out.
Seeing a young man standing outside her best friend's door, Miaomiao paused in surprise.
She walked over and called out, "Luoluo? Is he your friend? Why aren't you inviting him in?"
Wen Ce took a step back and said a little awkwardly, "I'll leave you two to it, then."
With that, he nodded to Miaomiao, turned around, and went back inside.
As soon as Luo Lianqing saw him go in, she grabbed her best friend, pulled her inside, and shut the door in one fluid motion.
Then she threw her arms around Miaomiao in despair. "That guy just now was the one I ran into last night and this morning! He's actually my neighbor!"
Perhaps because she sounded so distraught, Miaomiao, for once, didn't laugh at her. Instead, she took the bag from her hand. "So he came over to say hello? Is this a gift? Didn't you say you were wearing a mask? Maybe he didn't recognize you. Your neighbor's pretty handsome..."
Miaomiao's voice abruptly stopped.
Luo Lianqing looked at her, only to see her staring at the contents of the bag as she forced a sentence through clenched teeth. "Is your neighbor a pervert?"
Luo Lianqing frowned. "Why are you suddenly insulting him..."
Then, after she saw what was inside the bag, her face turned green, then red, then white...
"I'm moving..." Luo Lianqing said weakly. "You can die of embarrassment, but it shouldn't happen over and over..."
Meanwhile, Wen Ce was breathing a sigh of relief. That had been far too awkward. Without exaggeration, his scalp had already begun to prickle.
But that beautiful face still flashed through his mind, along with the impossibly long legs he had seen that morning.
Her name is Luoluo? Could it be a coincidence?
Wen Ce narrowed his eyes and glanced toward the door again. Coincidence or not, we're neighbors, so we should run into each other again, right?
Wen Ce waited all day, but the neighbor across the hall never added him on WeChat.
Then she probably doesn't want compensation either, right?
Thinking of that sexy outfit, Wen Ce sighed. He should have put the money straight into the bag. How could a girl bring herself to actually add him on WeChat and ask for compensation?
Over the next few days, Wen Ce never ran into his neighbor across the hall either, which left him a little relieved. Meeting her would be too awkward.
He really wouldn't know what to do if they ran into each other.
It wasn't until the day before classes started that the long-silent dorm group chat came alive.
There were four people in their dorm. Three were from out of town, and only Lin Fan was a local.
By now, they should all have returned to the dorm. Lin Fan was asking Wen Ce to join them for a meal. "Even if you've moved out, you've still got to eat with the gang."
Looking at the message Lin Fan had tagged him in, Wen Ce replied, [Okay.]
Because he wasn't good at socializing, other people sometimes thought he was rather pretentious. On top of that, he was from the south, and when he had first come here for university, that sense of not fitting in had been particularly pronounced.
Fortunately, Lin Fan was outgoing and didn't mind how little he spoke, always dragging him along to every activity.
Gradually, Wen Ce had seemed to fit in much better, and in his heart, he did consider Lin Fan a friend.
So whenever Lin Fan invited him, Wen Ce rarely refused.
They were eating at a small restaurant across from the university. Many people had already returned to campus, and the little restaurant was crowded too.
By the time Wen Ce arrived, all three of his dormmates were already there.
When they saw him, they even let out an exaggerated howl. "Brother Ce, you've moved out on your own!"
After Wen Ce sat down, Wang Meng looked at him and said miserably, "Is it because you can't stand my snoring?"
Liu Shumu laughed. "So you do know! That's not snoring, that's thunder!"
"Mutou's right!" Lin Fan said with a grin, then patted Wen Ce. "Our little Wen found an internship. He's worried he might get back late sometimes and disturb our sleep."
As he spoke, he winked at Wen Ce.
Wen Ce immediately caught on. Lin Fan had come up with an excuse for him.
He smiled and nodded too. "Right, I was worried about disturbing you. This meal's on me. Sorry I didn't tell you beforehand."
Only then did Wang Meng and Liu Shumu look a little happier.
After all, their roommate had moved out without a word, telling only one of them. They had felt rather uncomfortable when they found out.
Now that Wen Ce had said that, they let it go.
They merely muttered about ordering more dishes.
Once most of the food had arrived, Wang Meng suddenly said, "Oh, right, I heard we're getting a different counselor this semester. Apparently, the old one's quitting."
"Huh? They're changing our counselor in our third year?" Liu Shumu was a little surprised.
Lin Fan, however, didn't believe it. "Isn't that just a rumor?"
Wang Meng nodded too. "Honestly, I don't think it's believable either. They even said we're getting a beautiful counselor. Where would they find that many beauties? It's definitely fake."
"But speaking of beauties, hehehe." Wang Meng waggled his eyebrows at Wen Ce. "Our class flower was asking today whether Brother Ce had gotten back to the dorm and whether he needed her to come up and help tidy up."
The other two also turned to look at Wen Ce in unison, their faces full of knowing grins.
