Had he misunderstood something?
Luo Lianqing was screaming like a groundhog inside, but nothing looked out of the ordinary on her face. Only the hand holding the roster trembled slightly.
The comforting words Miaomiao had offered yesterday were now nothing but passing clouds, vanishing all at once.
Help! Why did I run into him everywhere? And now he was my student!
"All right, let's take attendance first and get to know each other while we're at it. I'm actually not usually strict, and I'm pretty easy to talk to, so you don't need to be too nervous," Luo Lianqing said with a smile, holding the roster. "I just hope you won't take your jokes too far. You're all university students, after all. What do you think?"
"Of course."
"Teacher, I was wrong. I just can't keep my mouth shut!"
"But did you study our major too?"
Luo Lianqing nodded as she listened to them talking over one another, picking a few questions to answer. "My undergraduate major wasn't yours, but my graduate studies were in your field. I was called in at the last minute to be your counselor for this semester, so I hope you'll cooperate. Let's start taking attendance."
"Qin Yanran..."
"Lin Fan..."
"Wen Ce..."
Luo Lianqing watched her neighbor raise his hand and say, "Here."
Wen Ce. His name sounded quite nice, but it was still far too different from the one in her memories.
People really did look alike.
Luo Lianqing met Wen Ce's eyes, then looked away with feigned composure and continued down the roster.
The first day of the semester was really just a matter of going through the motions.
They were university students, after all. There wasn't much to do, and they didn't have homework to hand in.
Once Luo Lianqing had gone through everything, she let out a relieved breath herself. "All right, you're dismissed. That's it for today's class meeting."
With that, she glanced at Wen Ce, wondering what excuse she could use to stop him.
Just then, a boy said, "Teacher, you said we could add you on WeChat. Can we still do that?"
Luo Lianqing glanced at him, then turned to the class representative beside her. "Come add me and invite me to the group chat. You can add me in a bit."
As she spoke, she noticed Wen Ce was about to leave and hurriedly called out, "Wen Ce, wait a moment..."
Everyone still in the classroom looked at Wen Ce, then at Luo Lianqing.
Qin Yanran, who had been trying to find a way to ask Wen Ce out for lunch, bit her lip lightly and asked in a quiet voice, "Wen Ce, do you know our teacher?"
Wen Ce didn't answer her question. He looked at Luo Lianqing through the crowd.
Luo Lianqing cleared her throat softly. "Well, you're the only one in the class who isn't living in the dorms. Come to my office so I can learn a little about your situation."
A perfect excuse. Luo Lianqing gave herself full marks inwardly.
Wen Ce, who had been wondering how to shake off Qin Yanran, also breathed a sigh of relief. "All right, teacher."
Then he told Lin Fan, "Don't wait for me. I'll go over there."
Everyone else looked away too. They had thought there might be some gossip.
Qin Yanran followed him for a few steps. "Wen Ce, can we have lunch together?"
Wen Ce didn't stop walking. "Probably not. I don't know when I'll be done."
With that, he nodded to her and walked toward Luo Lianqing.
Looking as calm as drifting clouds and a light breeze while her inner world crumbled, Luo Lianqing led Wen Ce out of the classroom.
Wen Ce followed behind her. She was quite tall, and the heels made her look even taller.
Wen Ce himself was 183 centimeters tall, and in heels, Luo Lianqing came up to the corner of his mouth. No wonder her legs were so long...
Each occupied with their own thoughts, the two arrived at the office.
Fortunately, no one was in the office. It was empty at the moment.
Luo Lianqing breathed a sigh of relief inwardly. Watching Wen Ce walk in, she pointed at the door. "Close the door."
Wen Ce stopped by the door, looking hesitant. "Teacher, isn't that a little inappropriate? A man and a woman alone together..."
Wen Ce hadn't actually meant anything else when he said that.
But Luo Lianqing immediately misunderstood. Her beautiful eyes widened, and she gritted her teeth and lowered her voice. "Do you think I'm that kind of... I'm not..."
"Ugh." Somewhat irritated, she went over herself and shut the office door with a click, but didn't lock it.
"I'm not like that. I bought those things because..." Luo Lianqing wanted to explain. After all, she really didn't want her student to mistake her for a sex maniac, but what had she been doing during their previous encounters?
She stopped halfway through, stuck.
Wen Ce watched her face grow redder and redder as she fell silent, knowing it was because of their previous encounters.
He sighed softly. "It's actually pretty normal. Teachers are normal people too. There's nothing wrong with this..."
"No, I wasn't getting those things to use them!" The composed expression on Luo Lianqing's face completely shattered, and she stamped her feet a few times in irritation.
Her heels struck the floor with crisp clicks.
Wen Ce thought the girl before him looked very cute too, blushing and fretting as she tried to explain but didn't know where to begin.
Somewhat hesitantly, he asked, "Teacher, was that all you wanted to say? I really didn't think anything of it. It's perfectly normal."
Luo Lianqing couldn't tell whether he was genuinely dense or just pretending. Why did he keep bringing it up?
Actually, she didn't know why she had called Wen Ce over either, but he was already standing here.
She could only say stiffly, "Anyway, what happened before was a misunderstanding. Don't bring it up again, and don't tell anyone else."
After saying that, she felt her tone had been rather harsh. Luo Lianqing exhaled and was just about to soften her voice and explain.
But Wen Ce glanced at his phone and nodded. "I understand, teacher. I won't say anything, and I won't mention at school that we've met before."
Luo Lianqing's words caught in her throat.
What did he mean? What was there to hide about having met before?
Looking at the message Zhao Li had sent, Wen Ce was a little anxious. "Teacher, if there's nothing else, can I leave now?"
Luo Lianqing nodded somewhat stiffly, then watched Wen Ce turn and leave without a backward glance.
His steps were even a little hurried. What?
Was I going to eat him or something?
And what did he mean, he wouldn't say we'd met before?
Luo Lianqing kept feeling something was off. Recalling their conversation, she belatedly realized, "Had he misunderstood something?"
Just then, a teacher came in and asked, "What did you say, Little Luo? Misunderstood what?"
Luo Lianqing gave a gentle smile. "Nothing, Teacher Wu."
Meanwhile, Wen Ce really hadn't thought much of it. As far as he was concerned, they were all adults, and having physical needs was perfectly normal.
Still, he did feel a little regretful that such a pretty girl already had a boyfriend.
But he soon tossed that thought to the back of his mind. Even if she didn't have a boyfriend, it had nothing to do with him.
He went straight to the bubble tea shop across from the university, where Zhao Li was waiting for him.
He had said it was urgent.
When Wen Ce came in, Zhao Li waved from his seat in the corner.
Wen Ce walked over with a frown. "What happened?"
With an air of mystery, Zhao Li motioned for him to sit down.
Wen Ce glanced around. There weren't too many people, but there weren't that few either. It certainly wasn't a good place for a conversation.
Still, he sat down beside him. "What is it?"
"Nothing. I actually just have the day off and wanted you to show me around campus, see if there are any pretty junior girls," Zhao Li said with a broad smile.
Wen Ce stared at him expressionlessly, tightening his grip on his phone. "Zhao Li, are you asking for a beating?"
