Background / History

Qi Zheng’s Death and the Feud with Gu Xing

Qian Shanyong’s estrangement from the Immortal Realm stems from the death of Qi Zheng and his subsequent conflict with Gu Xing. According to Gu Xing, Qian ambushed an immortal with Hundred Marshes Yue while that immortal was resisting the Heaven-Defying Treasure Mirror. The immortal suffered cultivation deviation and detonated himself, badly injuring Gu Xing and Xuan Long; Qian then attacked the fleeing Gu Xing 169.

Qian later reveals that High Person Yuangu had instructed him to deliver a message to Qi Zheng, provoking the self-detonation and causing his break with Gu Xing. He consequently regards Yuangu as responsible for helping him resolve the danger he faces from the Azure Emperor 210.

While remaining in the Cultivation Realm, Qian trains generation after generation of disciples. What begins as activity connected to his pursuit of Gu Xing develops into a genuine attachment to the realm and its inhabitants. Disciples who subsequently ascend also provide him with contacts and news from the Immortal Realm 181 204.

Pursuit of Li Qiang

Qian and Dainan Fengyu pursue Li Qiang for the Heavenly Recommendation Scripture for God Cultivation, prioritizing it over the divine artifact associated with the Great Flame Spirit Beast. Qian captures Li Qiang and takes him to a barren planet, demanding both the scripture and the Heaven-Defying Treasure Mirror. His quarrel with Dainan gives Li Qiang an opportunity to escape 133.

Their later negotiations produce an uneasy settlement. Li Qiang supplies both immortals with copies of the scripture but secretly withholds the correct cultivation methods for its final two divine heavens. Qian gives him devil-expelling methods and a jade token through which he can be found in Sleepless City 181.

The truce breaks down when Qian attempts to seize Devil Venerable Chiming. Li Qiang understands that Qian intends to use Chiming as evidence of Gu Xing’s violation of Immortal Realm rules. Li Qiang refuses to surrender him, leading to a battle outside Snow Dragon City 182.

Qian withstands Li Qiang’s Five Immortal Thunders, but a concealed Heavenly Slip forces him to teleport away. He then destroys the Supreme Radiance Shuttle’s manifested fire phoenix and imprisons Li Qiang in the Layered Flame Cauldron. Chiming shatters the cauldron, and Li Qiang escalates the confrontation by releasing beasts from the Suppressing Tranquility Intent Origin 183 184.

Alliance on Sealed Fate Planet

Qian increasingly treats Li Qiang as an equal rather than a troublesome junior. He and Dainan stop the War Soul Saber from killing Hen Buyi, and Qian later intervenes when Li Qiang’s attack on Shadow Castle threatens its cultivators 200 204 208.

With Chi Wuyu seeking him and pressure from the Immortal Realm mounting, Qian takes Li Qiang, Dainan, and Tianshi to consult High Person Yuangu. She advises him against fighting Gu Xing or returning to the Immortal Realm prematurely. She also reveals that the Azure Emperor already knows his role in Qi Zheng’s death—and that she herself informed him 204 208 210.

Qian joins Li Qiang’s preparations for Xinbo Cape after learning of Xuan Long’s injuries and the imprisonment of Mo Huaiyuan and Qi Junsha. The Sacred Envoys of Boyu’s attack on the Sacred City gives him an additional reason to act: protecting Sealed Fate Planet from further incursions 224 225.

During the Seven Assemblies Pill refinement, Qian becomes the principal defender against the Great Heavenly Tribulation. Afterward, he asks the group to help him understand his incomplete divine artifact. Li Qiang supplies the Wrath of the Heavenly God, allowing Qian to complete and activate it 229 230 231.

Xinbo Cape Expedition

Qian leads Li Qiang, Chiming, Xuan Long, and Dainan toward Xinbo Cape, first visiting High Person Bobeisi and then entering the Ancient Divine Formation. Inside, Qian, Li Qiang, and Chiming rotate the demanding task of protecting the group with divine artifacts. This cycle of exhaustion and recovery enables Qian’s unexpected cultivation breakthrough 239 242 243.

Once through the formation, he supports rescuing Li Qiang’s teachers before investigating the Ancient God Repository. Yuangu has instructed him to protect Li Qiang and remain with him to resolve his own predicament 244 247.

When High Person Mist Star traps Li Qiang, Qian abandons diplomacy. He reveals the Wrath of the Heavenly God, collapses the Mystic Sea, and releases Thousand Pulverizing Thunders while retreating with Xuan Long. Later, he joins the coordinated assault that seriously wounds Fire Maniac 247 260.

Rescue and Resolution with the Azure Emperor

At Xinbo, Qian becomes caught in an Ancient God Restriction. Li Qiang refuses to abandon him and, following the Azure Emperor’s guidance, repeatedly strikes him with the Ninefold Evolving Gilt to loosen the restriction. Qian trusts Li Qiang enough to withdraw his artifact and endure the blows without resisting, although his immortal armor begins to crack 264.

Qian escapes, but Li Qiang is drawn into the restriction in his place. For Li Qiang’s sake, and because Yuangu has pleaded for him, the Azure Emperor declines to punish Qian. Instead, he orders Qian to remain outside the Immortal Realm and indicates that he should support Li Qiang in the future 264.

The Azure Emperor also suppresses Qian’s feud with Gu Xing. Qian remains confident that his divine artifact gives him a chance against Gu Xing, but acknowledges that his own power is still slightly inferior and that he has not fully mastered the artifact 268.

Settlement in the Primordial Realm

When Fire Maniac attacks Sealed Fate Planet, Qian and Dainan defend Sleepless City and its cultivators until Li Qiang arrives. After the battle, they inspect a resource-rich planet in the Primordial Realm 276.

Qian subsequently agrees that the Sacred City will oversee the relocation of Sealed Fate Planet’s cultivators. He assigns experts to guide smaller sects and protect their new settlements. After accompanying Li Qiang to the Illusory God Hall, he returns to the Primordial Realm to continue these arrangements 281 284.

Appearance

  • Build: Tall, with an age that Li Qiang cannot determine 133.
  • Armor: Fiery-red immortal armor that appears to blaze like flames 133.
  • Mask: A fiery-red mask that moves with his expressions, visibly displaying smiles, anger, and changes in complexion 133 182 210 230.
  • Hair: Long and black, seen streaming in the force released by Fierce Condemnation 183.
  • Eyes and aura: Golden light flashes in his eyes, and protective golden radiance frequently conceals his figure 133 181 183.

Personality

Qian is proud of his status and initially dismissive of cultivators far beneath him. He reacts sharply to Li Qiang’s mockery, disregards pleas to end their duel, and considers being forced to dodge a junior’s attack humiliating. Nevertheless, he recognizes courage and admires Li Qiang’s composure even while underestimating his strength 133 180 183.

He is also calculating and pragmatic. Li Qiang compares him to a great merchant who judges matters through strength and negotiated terms. Qian cultivates useful relationships, builds an information network through former disciples, and attempts to recruit Tianshi and Li Qiang as protection against Chi Wuyu 198 204 230.

His attachment to the Cultivation Realm tempers this opportunism. He describes becoming emotionally invested after teaching successive generations of disciples, and he accepts the risks of Xinbo Cape partly to protect Sealed Fate Planet. Li Qiang comes to regard him as an immortal who stands by his friends 181 225 264.

His composure is not absolute. Yuangu’s revelations leave him frightened, furious, and briefly unable to think clearly; obtaining the divine artifact likewise overwhelms his usual caution. In immediate danger, however, he can remain remarkably controlled, including while trapped in the Ancient Divine Formation and during his rescue from the Ancient God Restriction 210 231 243 264.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Wrath of the Heavenly God — His principal divine artifact. Its main body comes from Li Qiang and merges with Qian’s Divine Stick. It provides group protection, flight, and destructive power sufficient to bring his combat strength to Heavenly Lord level 231 243.
  • Divine Stick — Qian’s name for an incomplete, three-foot-long purplish-gold artifact whose original name is lost. It has a triangular end, blue hooks, and four hoops; it proves to be an accessory to the Wrath of the Heavenly God 230 231.
  • Fierce Condemnation — A treasure he refined, normally a black, four-sided rhombic block. Releases destructive black ripples that sweep away Li Qiang’s Five Immortal Thunders; later used to trap the Sacred Envoys of Boyu before their escape 183 225.
  • Layered Flame Cauldron — A fist-sized immortal artifact that expands into a translucent cauldron five meters across. Captures targets with blue-green and white streams of force, then grinds down their power through pressure and immortal-formation flames. Destroyed by Chiming’s Blood Devil Halberd 183.
  • Hundred Marshes Yue — Releases icy-silver crescent blades accompanied by wind and thunder. Shatters the Thousand Splendors Divine Beast’s phantom images 184.
  • Star Chain — A defensive immortal artifact that becomes countless sparkling points. Destroyed during the Great Heavenly Tribulation 229.
  • Heavenly Pearl — Used for Sleepless City’s defenses, leaving the Star Chain without its support during the pill-refining tribulation 229.
  • Heavenly Recommendation Scripture copy — Obtained from Li Qiang, with the correct methods for its final two divine heavens secretly withheld 181.

Relationships

  • Li Qiang — Begins as his quarry and opponent, then becomes an equal, benefactor, and trusted friend. Li Qiang completes his divine artifact and risks his life to rescue him at Xinbo 133 183 204 231 264.
  • Dainan Fengyu — Longtime companion and sparring rival; they have fought for thousands of years. She once saves him by deflecting the Immortal-Beating Hammer in the Reverse Passage, while he tries to protect her from dangerous cultivation and Heavenly Lord Baidie. Li Qiang likens them to bickering lovers, but no formal romance is established 181 182.
  • Gu Xing — Longstanding enemy connected to Qi Zheng’s death. Their mutual hostility survives the Azure Emperor’s intervention, though open conflict is suppressed 169 181 210 268.
  • High Person Yuangu / Heavenly Aunt — Powerful patron whose instructions implicate him in Qi Zheng’s death. He seeks her protection, follows her direction to remain with Li Qiang, and benefits from her intercession with the Azure Emperor 210 247 264.
  • Azure Emperor — His sovereign and the authority whose punishment he fears. Ultimately spares him but forbids his return to the Immortal Realm 181 210 261 264.
  • Xuan Long — A fellow Luo Heaven High Immortal with whom he initially has strained relations. They later cooperate in the Xinbo expedition and the attack on Mist Star’s Mystic Sea 224 243 247.
  • Chiming — Initially a target Qian intends to detain. Later becomes a fellow combatant; Chiming helps him complete the Wrath of the Heavenly God and openly praises his defense against the Great Heavenly Tribulation 182 230 231 260.
  • Old Immortal Tianshi — An eccentric acquaintance whom Qian draws into his alliance. Despite Dainan’s dislike of Tianshi, Qian maintains that he has no ill intentions and offers to encourage his secluded cultivation in the Primordial Realm 198 204 284.

Trivia

  • Qian warns Li Qiang that an unresolved debt of gratitude can obstruct an advanced immortal’s cultivation, then unknowingly incurs that very problem by accepting the Wrath of the Heavenly God from him 230 231.
  • Despite his rank, he generally keeps a low profile in his own territory and rarely appears before ordinary cultivators 198.
  • He once promises toys to Yuangu’s childlike attendants. Xian Xi’s insistence that he fulfill the promise leaves him visibly embarrassed 208.
