Disrupting the Plan

"It's fine." Jiang Jinran tilted her head. "I've got nothing to do anyway."

With that, Jiang Jinran stepped straight forward-

She quickly moved in front of Lu Yunxiao, deliberately blocking part of his view with her body as her fingers switched the positions of several glasses at an almost dazzling speed.

Lu Yunxiao squeezed his way back over.

His eyes widened with anxiety. "Did you just move these glasses?"

Only after the words left his mouth did he realize his tone had been too harsh.

After all, this was Jiang Yuehan's younger sister.

He reined in his inappropriate tone and asked her as gently as possible, "You didn't move these glasses, did you?"

As he asked, he examined the glasses.

Their positions had not changed at all, and the special glass he had prepared for Jiang Yuehan was still in its original spot.

It seemed they probably hadn't been touched.

"I didn't move them," Jiang Jinran answered quietly.

"That's good." Lu Yunxiao smiled. "Just leave the pouring to me."

With that, he started pouring again.

Jiang Jinran did not leave. Instead, she stayed where she was, watching his every move.

After filling the glass in that particular position, Lu Yunxiao gave it to Jiang Yuehan, just as she had expected.

Her guess had been right.

There really was something wrong with that glass.

After taking the wineglass, Jiang Yuehan immediately took a sip.

Lu Yunxiao and Lu Wanning watched him drink it with their own eyes, and a dark gleam flashed through both their gazes at the same time.

With the main event taken care of, Lu Yunxiao became much more casual, filling the remaining glasses with little care.

Jiang Jinran helpfully reached out and distributed the wine to the seated guests for him, until only one glass remained-

Jiang Jinsa held this glass, her movements hesitant.

Suddenly, Lu Wanning reached out from beside her and snatched the wine from Jiang Jinran's hand.

"What, you've been holding on to that glass all this time because you want to drink it yourself?"

Lu Wanning's smile dripped with sarcasm, and her movements were just as rude. She raised the wineglass and took a sip with an air of self-satisfaction.

"Too bad you're still a child. You can't drink."

The corner of Jiang Jinran's mouth twitched.

Heh.

You're an adult who can drink. How very impressive.

"Don't take it to heart. That's just how she talks." Lu Yunxiao hurried over to smooth things over, an ingratiating smile on his face. "Thanks for your help just now."

As long as Jiang Yuehan drank that glass of wine, Lu Yunxiao's task was complete. Now relieved of his burden and in excellent spirits, he promptly thanked Jiang Jinran for her earlier "friendly assistance."

Jiang Jinran's eyes curved, but she said nothing.

Just now, she had switched two of the glasses with the speed of a thunderclap that left no time to cover one's ears.

She had swapped the glass prepared for Jiang Yuehan with an ordinary one.

Naturally, there was nothing wrong with Jiang Yuehan's wine now.

As for the tampered glass, she had moved it among the ordinary ones and kept track of its position all along.

In fact, the most direct way for Jiang Jinran to stop Lu Yunxiao's plan would have been to deliberately knock over Jiang Yuehan's wine and keep him from drinking it.

But that would have been no fun.

Besides, if Lu Yunxiao and his sister saw their plan fail, they might very well improvise some other nasty trick...

In that case, Jiang Jinran and Jiang Yuehan would undoubtedly be left on the defensive.

She wanted Lu Yunxiao to mistakenly believe Jiang Yuehan had fallen for the trap, while getting someone else to drink the tampered wine, leaving them to lose the rice they used as bait without even stealing the chicken...

That was Jiang Jinran's idea, and it was also why she had specifically come over to meddle while Lu Yunxiao poured the wine.

But she was still hesitating over whom to give the spiked wine to.

At first, she had wanted Lu Yunxiao to be the "sacrificial lamb."

She hadn't expected Lu Wanning to snatch the wine straight from her hand and swiftly take a sip.

All Jiang Jinran could say to that was-

You brought this on yourself.

She obediently returned to Jiang Yuehan's side.

Lu Yunxiao and Lu Wanning both cast seemingly casual yet deliberate glances at Jiang Yuehan.

They seemed to be waiting for him to show the reaction they were expecting.

Jiang Jinran curled her lips beneath her mask.

Too bad. What you're waiting for isn't going to happen at all.

Suddenly.

Lu Wanning bit her lip, her expression abnormal, and her originally snow-white cheeks began to flush bright red.

Jiang Jinran noticed the change and fixed her gaze on her, continuing to observe.

Lu Wanning's expression gradually began to contort.

Her cheeks were outrageously red.

"What's wrong with Miss Lu?" It was so obvious that the others could hardly fail to notice.

"Has she had too much to drink?"

"Or is she sick..."

Lu Yunxiao also noticed something wrong with his sister.

She actually stumbled over to Jiang Yuehan and made to throw herself at him!

Quite a few people were stunned.

They had never seen anything like this. In their eyes, Lu Wanning had always been beautiful and reserved.

But now, that lovely image came crashing down.

Seeing Lu Wanning lunge toward Jiang Yuehan, Jiang Jinran hurriedly patted his arm. "Quick, get out of the way!"

The corner of Jiang Yuehan's mouth twitched.

He moved quickly too, hastily dodging aside.

This was no time to be a gentleman.

Jiang Yuehan had never been a gentleman anyway.

Thud.

Lu Wanning lunged at empty air and fell flat on the floor.

"Wanning!"

Lu Yunxiao anxiously jumped up and rushed over, and the scene immediately descended into chaos.

Jiang Yuehan pulled Jiang Jinran into a corner and told her gently, "You should go first. The driver's downstairs."

There was no need for Jiang Jinran to remain amid such utter chaos. She was still a child, after all.

Jiang Jinran had already accomplished her goal and hadn't wanted to stay any longer anyway, so she nodded.

But Jiang Yuehan suddenly ruffled his own hair, a hint of fondness in the gesture. "Also, thank you, Xiao Ran."

Jiang Yuehan offered no explanation. He merely looked at her and smiled.

Jiang Jinran had no idea that Jiang Yuehan had already heard every one of her earlier thoughts.

Through Jiang Jinran's thoughts, Jiang Yuehan had not only learned of Lu Yunxiao and Lu Wanning's plot, but also discovered that this little girl had come over specifically to "rescue" him.

He was somewhat touched, yet he also couldn't help reflecting-

And at this very moment, Lu Wanning, utterly disgraced, had brought it entirely upon herself.

At Jiang Yuehan's urging, Jiang Jinran left private room 2013.

Jiang Yuehan did not leave with her, intending to stay behind to "clean up the mess."

She took the elevator down to the first floor, and as she glanced ahead, her gaze met the young man's deep eyes squarely.
