Power Progression
| Stage / Realm / Level | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Initial Divine Sense | 21 | Divine Sense normally manifests at the third level of Qi Condensation, initially covering only a few feet. Li Yan’s mental power had reached this initial state but was too weak to be released outside his body. |
| Early abnormal growth | 69 | Stimulating the separated meridians of the Dismembering Poison Body unexpectedly increases Li Yan’s Divine Sense. |
| Qi Condensation, tenth level | 137 | Li Yan’s range reaches roughly 50 miles, comparable to an early Foundation Establishment cultivator; an ordinary tenth-level Qi Condensation cultivator can detect only six or seven miles. |
| Qi Condensation, tenth level—stabilized | 207 | His range reaches 70 li, surpassing the usual early Foundation Establishment limit. He conceals this advantage by displaying only six or seven li before others. |
| Foundation Establishment period | 326 | Li Yan’s range exceeds 700 li and is nearly comparable to an early Golden Core cultivator’s Divine Sense. |
| Mid-stage Foundation Establishment | 343 | His Divine Sense extends beyond 1,100 miles, comparable to that of an ordinary Golden Core cultivator. |
| Pseudo-Core | 481 | Li Yan concentrates 90% of his Divine Sense into a single spike to breach the Silver Paper’s restriction; its strength is comparable to a mid-stage Golden Core cultivator. |
| Golden Core period | 966 | His range exceeds 4,300 miles, while Zhao Min—despite exceptional ability for her realm—reaches only about 3,000 miles. |
| Early Nascent Soul | 1133, 1134 | His Sea of Consciousness expands into a vast sea. At 60% expenditure, his range reaches 4,900 miles; at full strength, he estimates about 7,000 miles, equivalent to the mid-Nascent Soul stage before his realm stabilizes. |
| Nascent Soul period | 1402 | His Divine Sense strength is comparable to an early Spirit Transformation cultivator, though a mid-stage Spirit Transformation opponent could detect his probing. |
| Early Void Refinement | 1809 | After breaking through, Li Yan’s Divine Sense potentially reaches the peak late-Void Refinement level or beyond. Its strands become progressively more condensed. |
| Body Integration | 3034 | Li Yan’s Divine Sense duplicates improve substantially alongside his physical body. At this realm, Divine Sense can manifest true Divine Thought avatars capable of independent action. |
Nature and Cultivation
Divine Sense is mental power cultivated until it becomes substantial. Once released from the body, it can perceive the world more clearly than ordinary sight and hearing. 21
Its usual growth follows a cultivator’s realm breakthroughs. Dedicated methods for increasing it are exceptionally rare because they repeatedly temper and tear at the soul; failure can leave a practitioner insane, dull-witted, or permanently damaged. 61 207
Li Yan’s Gui Water True Scripture is unusual because it steadily nourishes his Divine Sense during ordinary cultivation rather than through painful, specialized tempering. Its small gains accumulate with every cultivation session. 69 207
Applications and Mechanics
Perception and reconnaissance
Divine Sense functions as a cultivator’s principal means of observation.
- Replaces the eyes and ears, allowing its user to observe and hear within its range. 21
- Can penetrate walls, courtyards, mountains, and seas; restrictions are its primary obstruction. 207
- Allows cultivators to identify auras, detect ambushes, trace movements, and anticipate an enemy’s attacks before they are launched. 207 1134
- A powerful Divine Sense can detect details that ordinary perception misses, including an opponent’s concealed appearance or physical condition. 2257 2930
- Excessive probing can alert stronger cultivators, who may sense and retaliate against the intruding Divine Sense. 1402
Jade Slips, storage, and item control
Divine Sense is necessary for operating many cultivation items.
- Cultivators use it to carve text, images, and sound into Jade Slips, preserving information far more durably than paper. 21
- Storage Bags and related spatial items are accessed and searched through Divine Sense. 131
- It controls techniques, Puppets, mechanisms, and Magic Treasures; refined control reduces the amount of Divine Sense required to cast spells. 207 1823
- Divine Sense imprints can secure items or preserve recordings. An imprint left by a dead owner can be erased more easily by a cultivator of similar strength. 131 482
- Divine Sense seals depend directly on their creator’s cultivation, unlike magical restrictions, which lower-level cultivators can use to create stronger seals. 483
Combat and soul attacks
A sufficient gap in Divine Sense strength can decide a battle without direct contact.
- Powerful cultivators can kill weaker beings with a strand of Divine Sense alone. 22
- Divine Sense Stab condenses Divine Sense into a needle and drives it into an opponent’s Sea of Consciousness. It generally requires the attacker’s Divine Sense to be three or four levels stronger to succeed reliably. 596
- Divine Sense can form blades, swords, phantoms, and other attacks during high-level battles. Damage to the Sea of Consciousness can cause idiocy, severe soul injury, or death. 530 639 642
- Divine Sense poison can paralyze, corrode, or attack a cultivator’s main body by following their released Divine Sense. This differs from toxins remotely activated through Divine Sense. 92
- Strong Divine Sense supports combat even when mana is insufficient, though techniques used this way cannot achieve their full power. 345
Divine Thought and avatars
At the Nascent Soul Realm, multiple strands of Divine Sense can form Divine Thought, a more powerful manifestation of consciousness. 22
- A Divine Thought can split off a wisp of Divine Sense to observe the world for roughly a thousand years, receive its accumulated memories, then send out a replacement wisp before returning to slumber. 22 24
- A true Divine Thought avatar can independently think and act before relaying its findings back to its main body. 3033
- Even Body Integration experts commonly continue calling this power “Divine Sense”; “Divine Thought” is used when its distinct higher-level properties need emphasis. 3033
Micro Thought
Micro Thought is an auxiliary Divine Sense training method discovered by Li Yan. It does not increase total Divine Sense but improves its precision, toughness, and attack intensity. 1750
- Microscopic Perception — triples the intensity and toughness of a Divine Sense spike. 1750
- Microscopic Movement — increases that intensity sixfold. 1750
- Non-Microscopic — increases it ninefold and completes the technique’s training. 1750
- Its training tool is the Cloud Piercing Blade, a dark-red blade used to practice subtle Divine Sense control. 1750
- Greater precision lowers consumption when casting spells and improves detection of subtle battlefield changes. 1823
Limitations
- Divine Sense recovers far more slowly than mana after depletion or injury. 1410 1711
- Stronger opponents can repel, damage, or follow an invading strand back toward the user’s Sea of Consciousness. 2129
- Specialized formations and locations can prevent Divine Sense from leaving the body or make its information unusable. 350 2383
- Silver Sand can temporarily disrupt Divine Sense. 1376
- In the Di Zhen Domain, Divine Sense is almost absolutely suppressed; even Body Integration cultivators can release it less than five inches. 1435
- Upon entering the suppressed region of the Heavenly Demon Grassland, Li Yan could force his Divine Sense only two inches beyond his body at full effort; communicating with a storage ring could exhaust him for days. 1427 1428
