Ch. 21Proof of existence

Emilia’s group met Abel and Yorna in Guaral, confirmed through Beatrice that Subaru was alive, and learned that he had been shrunk. The reunion plans were interrupted when Beatrice recognized the little girl beside Medium as Louis Arneb, the Sin Archbishop of Gluttony.

  • Abel praised Decker for defending Guaral and confirmed that Yorna had agreed to join his cause.
  • Emilia insisted that Subaru was alive because she believed in him, and Beatrice revealed that her soul was connected to his and could confirm he had survived.
  • Medium said Subaru had been shrunk like her, prompting Emilia, Petra, Garfiel, Frederica, and Otto to worry about his condition.
  • Beatrice recognized the little girl beside Medium, and Otto realized he had seen her before.
  • Beatrice identified the little girl as Louis Arneb, the Sin Archbishop of Gluttony.

Ch. 22A decision deferred

Beatrice revealed that Louis was the Sin Archbishop of Gluttony, sparking a dispute over whether to restrain or protect her. Emilia chose to trust Louis for now, leaving the group’s final judgment deferred.

  • Beatrice identified Louis as the Sin Archbishop of Gluttony, and Garfiel moved to subdue her while Medium and others defended her.
  • Otto argued that Louis should be restrained, but Abel, Mizelda, Yorna, and others resisted acting against her; Al said Subaru had protected Louis and wanted her left alone.
  • Priscilla arrived and recognized Night Weeping as her mother, Yorna Mishigure, and Abel identified her as Sondra Benedict.
  • Otto rejected Petra’s suggestion of binding Louis with a curse seal and decided not to force a confrontation while they sought more answers.
  • Emilia listened to Medium’s defense of Louis, offered Louis her trust, and clasped her hand, leaving the decision about Louis’s fate for later.

Ch. 23Echoes (Part One)

Otto wondered whether Subaru’s repeated deaths had been shown on the Sky Curtain for a reason, while the Emilia camp decided to keep Louis’s fate on hold. The Sky Curtain then showed Subaru waking after another Return by Death beside Ram, and the chapter left Garfiel regretting that he had not gone with Subaru.

  • Otto considered whether Subaru had accomplished something extraordinary and why the Sky Curtain was revealing his deaths.
  • The Sky Curtain showed Ram waking Subaru after his death and helping him vomit as he struggled with the memory of her gruesome death.
  • Ram explained that they had been separated from Emilia and the others when a spatial rift swallowed them and brought them to the sand palace.
  • Subaru realized his Return by Death starting point had changed, and Ram urged him to accept what had happened before he teased her and got slapped.
  • Garfiel regretted that he had not gone with Subaru, while Priscilla told the crowd to stop disturbing her viewing of the Sky Curtain.

Ch. 24Echoes (Part two)

Subaru led Ram and Anastasia through the Sand Palace, where a sound-hunting demon beast nearly killed them before a mysterious woman destroyed it with beams of white light. After the Sky Curtain showed the battle, Ram and Rem reflected on Subaru’s suffering and their connection to him, while the woman approached the unconscious Subaru and said, “Found you.”

  • Subaru led Ram and Anastasia toward the smell of burning, then fell into a cavern and encountered a blind demon beast that tracked them by sound and echoes.
  • The demon beast attacked Subaru and Patrasche, regenerated from its injuries, and drove Ram and Anastasia into the fight.
  • Ram shielded Subaru, telling him that Rem would cry if he died, while Subaru tried to find a way to protect her.
  • A mysterious woman’s white beams annihilated the demon beast, and Subaru lost consciousness while holding Ram as the woman approached and said, “Found you.”
  • Emilia, Beatrice, Garfiel, Ram, Petra, and Frederica watched the Sky Curtain and reacted to Subaru’s ordeal, while Ram resolved to find Rem and Subaru.
  • In the imperial capital, Rem watched the Sky Curtain, cried without understanding why, and wondered what she should say to Subaru if she saw him again.

Ch. 25The Stargazer's Revelation

The Sky Curtain revealed Subaru’s mental space, where he encountered a loving figure in the darkness and the lingering consciousnesses of Sloth and Greed. As his allies debated his connection to the Witch of Envy and the Witch Factors he inherited, Ubilk arrived and began explaining the Sky Curtain’s origin and a plan made with Flugel four hundred years ago.

  • The Sky Curtain showed Subaru drifting through a dark mental space, ignoring the accusing voices of Sloth and Greed before telling a veiled figure that he loved her.
  • Emilia, Beatrice, and the others questioned who the figure was, while Vincent asked whether Subaru had been colluding with the Witch of Envy.
  • Night Weeping and Al described how shadows had erupted from Subaru in the Demon City, and Night Weeping said Tanza’s Soul Marriage Technique had stopped the disaster from destroying the city.
  • Otto, Beatrice, and Emilia suggested that Subaru had inherited the Witch Factors of Sloth and Greed, while Beatrice warned that his broken Gate and accumulated Mana put him in danger.
  • Ubilk appeared and said the Sky Curtain concerned a recurring celestial phenomenon called the Pleiades Star Cluster.
  • Ubilk began to explain his ancestors’ plan with the Sage Flugel from four hundred years earlier.

Ch. 26Conversations at the Banquet

At the victory banquet, Farsale and Echidna discussed the witches and their next move, while Farsale gave Hoshin a new cane and examined a relic resembling part of a smartphone. Farsale then announced that the group would seek the Divine Dragon Volcanica’s help against the Witch of Vainglory.

  • Farsale asked Echidna about the witches and confronted her about secretly arranging the Watergate City flood, which she admitted doing to save its people and bury Typhon’s Pride Factor.
  • Satella and Flugel helped Hoshin through the banquet, and Farsale gave him a replacement cane for the one damaged in battle.
  • Hoshin identified a mirror-like relic as one of several pieces with counterparts in Kararagi and the Vollachian Empire, and Farsale gave the collected pieces to Flugel for safekeeping.
  • Farsale announced that the group’s next objective was to meet the Divine Dragon Volcanica and seek a way to oppose the Witch of Vainglory, as well as end the war between Lugunica and the Vollachian Empire.

Ch. 27The beginning of curtain light: The star-reading swindler and the convenience store boy

In White Sand Town, Vigel met Natsuki Subaru, a traveler from another world who had endured repeated deaths and restarts. After hearing Subaru’s story, Vigel agreed to leave town with him and lead their journey toward Kararagi.

  • Vigel tried to earn money by telling a merchant a false fortune, then discovered the merchant had paid him with counterfeit coins.
  • Natsuki Subaru asked Vigel for food and offered to help him, explaining that he had arrived from another world and could return to a save point after dying.
  • Vigel recognized Subaru’s account as possibly true and invited him to share dinner in White Sand Town.
  • Subaru proposed traveling to Kararagi, and Vigel agreed on the condition that he would lead their team.
  • Vigel recorded Subaru’s star pattern as a blank space, while a shooting star crossed the sky unnoticed.

Ch. 28Stardust and Blades (Part One)

Subaru traveled with Vigel toward Kararagi, taking the name Flugel, until Vigel’s prophecy failed and a witchbeast attacked them. Vigel abandoned and struck Flugel, but both were killed, leaving Flugel’s final thoughts filled with regret.

  • Vigel explained that Subaru needed a local name to travel through the Vollachian Empire and named him Flugel.
  • Flugel and Vigel traveled for seven days, with Vigel using his Divine Protection of Prophecy to predict conditions and dangers.
  • In a narrow valley, they passed two unusual travelers, and Vigel discovered that his prophecy could no longer predict the travelers or the roads ahead.
  • Flugel persuaded Vigel to take the left road despite the prophecy, and they encountered a witchbeast.
  • Vigel tripped Flugel and tried to escape, then struck him with his astrolabe when Flugel grabbed his ankle.
  • The witchbeast tore Flugel apart, while Vigel fled and later fell into a crevice, where the beast killed him as he regretted abandoning Flugel.

Ch. 29Stardust and blades (part two)

After returning to the moment he first met Vigel, Flugel changed their encounter by asking to travel with Farsale and Reid toward Kararagi City. When Vigel’s memories of another loop surfaced, Flugel protected him from a mabeast’s explosion, and the two became friends before setting off together.

  • Flugel approached Vigel, Farsale, and Reid and asked to travel with them to Kararagi City.
  • Farsale revealed that he was the incognito thirty-fifth king of Lugunica and explained that the first hero had left mirror fragments resembling Flugel’s phone.
  • Reid swiftly defeated several powerful mabeasts, while Farsale killed a scorpion mabeast whose pincers Vigel tried to collect.
  • Flugel tackled Vigel away from the scorpion’s explosion and suffered severe burns protecting him.
  • Vigel recalled memories of killing Flugel in another loop, and Flugel asked him to be his friend.
  • Farsale invited Flugel and Vigel to continue toward Kararagi City with him and Reid.

Ch. 30First encounter, Kararagi City

Flugel and Vigel reached Kararagi City, where Flugel met Satella and helped her with a merchant before Echidna warned that the Witch of Melancholy was hunting her. The Melancholy Fiend attacked their hiding place and killed Echidna, Hoshin, and Satella as Flugel and Vigel were overpowered, leaving the outcome of the encounter unknown.

  • Vigel identified Kararagi City, and Farsale parted from Flugel and Vigel to visit the council hall.
  • Flugel spent Vigel's savings to stop a merchant from forcing Satella to pay for a broken jar, and he and Vigel introduced themselves to her and Hoshin.
  • Echidna arrived, recognized Flugel as a person from another world, and warned that a deadly pursuer was hunting her.
  • Echidna pulled the group into a wooden house as the pursuer passed nearby, but the Melancholy Fiend broke through the wall and attacked them.
  • The Melancholy Fiend crushed Echidna, struck down Hoshin and Satella, and pinned Flugel and Vigel as Flugel reached for Satella before darkness engulfed them.

Ch. 31An attempt, another fall

Flugel returned to a point before the Melancholy Fiend’s attack and tried to save Satella and the others by organizing an ambush. The attack wounded the Fiend but failed to stop him, and Flugel died again as Satella and Echidna fell.

  • Flugel awoke after another return in time and found Farsale and Reid had already left, so he gathered Vigel, Hoshin, and Satella to warn them about the Melancholy Fiend.
  • Flugel led the group to Echidna’s wooden house and convinced her that the Fiend was coming, then they planned an ambush in an abandoned mill.
  • Echidna and Satella attacked the Fiend with magic while Flugel used Shamak, and Hoshin and Vigel struck him as he staggered.
  • The Fiend’s wounds healed rapidly, and he crushed Hoshin and Vigel with gravity before killing Satella and Echidna.
  • Flugel died beside Satella and wished to return to a time when Farsale and Reid were still with him.

Ch. 32Dawn, your feelings

After dying twice, Flugel returned to the marketplace and gathered his companions to defeat the Melancholy Fiend in an ambush. The group learned that Pandora was rewriting history, and Satella comforted Flugel and agreed to keep seeing him as he waited for her feelings to develop.

  • Flugel returned to the marketplace, told his companions about his previous loops, and led them to find Echidna before the Melancholy Fiend arrived.
  • Flugel organized an ambush at the old mill, where Vigel, Echidna, Satella, Hoshin, Reid, and Farsale helped wound the Melancholy Fiend and drive him away.
  • Echidna revealed that Pandora, the Demon King's daughter and Witch of Vainglory, was rewriting the world and erasing the history of the hero from four hundred years ago.
  • Farsale, Reid, Hoshin, Vigel, and Satella agreed to join Flugel in resisting the threat to the world.
  • Flugel confessed to Satella that he had fallen for her and wanted to save her and his companions; Satella thanked him, asked him not to stop looking at her, and promised to remember and wait for him.

Ch. 33Setting sail! A new journey

After his defeat, Hector confronted Pandora over her erasure of the hero and the Demon King, then left her palace. In Kararagi, Flugel and the others prepared to travel north toward the Divine Dragon Volcanica as they investigated the world's alteration.

  • Hector returned to Pandora's palace and accused her of erasing the hero and the Demon King from the world.
  • Pandora claimed she was correcting the world's mistakes, and Hector left rather than remain beneath the sky she was rewriting.
  • Flugel blurted out that he thought about Satella day and night, apologized when she took offense, and learned about the distant waterfall where the Divine Dragon Volcanica lived.
  • Satella resolved to stop Flugel from abusing Return by Death, and the two silently agreed that his life should not be treated as a tool.
  • Flugel, Farsale, Echidna, Vigel, Hoshin, Reid, and the others gathered at the mill and set off on a new journey toward the north.

Ch. 34Beneath the Curtain's Light

Ubilk showed the group memories from the Sky Curtain revealing that Shaula mistook Natsuki Subaru for her master, the Great Sage Flugel, and naming the four-hundred-year-old Curtain Light Project. The group absorbed the revelation and resolved to reunite with Subaru, while Al questioned how Pandora’s influence had shaped the events around them.

  • Ubilk’s astrolabe displayed Subaru meeting Shaula, who clung to him and identified him as her master, Flugel.
  • Shaula said she knew Reid and Volcanica, while Anastasia and the others realized the silver coin’s Sage depicted a man unlike her.
  • Ubilk identified the scene as the earliest trace of the Curtain Light Project, and Otto connected it to Flugel, Vigel, and their plan to save Satella and defeat Pandora.
  • Vincent questioned whether Ubilk had verified his account, while Petra and Emilia reacted to Subaru’s past connection with Satella and Emilia resolved to keep striving for his love.
  • Garfiel vowed to avenge Subaru, Ram urged the group to reach him, and Priscilla warned that force alone could not defeat Pandora.
  • Al questioned whether Pandora had manipulated his teacher’s guidance and concluded that Subaru’s plan had freed someone and altered the expected course of events.

Ch. 35Four hundred years of watch

Pandora’s power and refuge weakened as the returned Flugel disrupted the plans she had woven over four hundred years. At the Pleiades Watchtower, Subaru learned that it was a great library and began facing its trials while trying to protect his companions and find answers for Rem.

  • Pandora blamed Flugel and the Sky Curtain for draining her power, recalled how she had manipulated the world’s history, and fell asleep while watching Flugel with Shaula.
  • Subaru’s group climbed the Watchtower, where Shaula explained that its original purpose was the Pleiades Great Library, a place containing the knowledge they sought.
  • Subaru and Ram entered the green room and found Rem and Patrasche; the room’s spirit healed Patrasche but could not wake Rem.
  • Subaru left Rem in Ram’s care and learned that the group had been unable to solve the library’s trial on the third floor, so he agreed to inspect it.
  • Subaru privately asked Shaula not to harm him or his companions, and she accepted his request as a new order from her master.

Ch. 36The Trial of the White Star Cluster

Subaru and his companions entered Taygeta’s trial, where he solved a star-pattern puzzle by recognizing Orion and selecting Rigel as the hero’s brightest moment. The Sky Curtain audience saw the solution as evidence that Flugel had left clues for his future self, while Emilia promised Subaru he would no longer have to bear the burden alone.

  • Subaru entered Taygeta and found a white space filled with floating monoliths; the trial asked him to touch the most brilliant moment of the hero destroyed by Shaula.
  • Subaru and his companions learned that touching the wrong monolith reset the trial, while Shaula could not remember the hero she had supposedly killed.
  • Subaru suspected that Shaula referred to the constellation’s scorpion rather than the woman, then used Beatrice’s Murak magic to view the monoliths from above.
  • Subaru recognized Orion’s constellation among the monoliths and touched the one representing Rigel, clearing the trial and transporting the group to a library room.
  • The Sky Curtain audience discussed how Flugel had planted clues for his future self, and Emilia said Subaru could keep moving forward without knowing he was Flugel.

Ch. 37Taygeta's library

Subaru and his companions opened Taygeta, a vast library whose books let certain readers experience the lives of people named on their covers. The book about Typhon overwhelmed Subaru, and Julius’s experience of Balleroy’s life exposed conflicting accounts of the former general’s death, leaving the group to wonder how long it would take to find the truth in the library.

  • Subaru solved Taygeta’s star riddle, revealing a huge library that Beatrice recognized as a trove of knowledge.
  • Subaru opened a book titled Typhon and experienced the Witch of Pride’s origins before Emilia helped him recover.
  • Julius experienced a book about Balleroy Temeglyph and explained that he had killed the former Vollachian general in a duel during a failed coup.
  • The group inferred that the books contained the pasts of people their readers had met, and Anastasia pointed out that the library held countless such volumes.
  • Vincent learned that the Sky Curtain’s account of Balleroy’s death contradicted his memories, while Julius and Halibel headed toward the Empire to help Subaru.
  • Madelyn questioned the Sky Curtain’s version of Balleroy’s death, and Flop wondered what role Vincent had played in the rebellion.

Ch. 38The Master Swordsman (Part One)

Subaru spoke with Meili about her past and learned that she had no interest in finding her birth family, while the others reflected on how he and Emilia treated her. The group then abandoned their search through Taygeta’s vast library for the moment, and Anastasia uncovered Shaula’s secret rules for guarding the tower, leaving them with a clearer but dangerous set of restrictions.

  • Subaru asked Meili when she became an assassin, and she explained that her adoptive Mama had raised her for the work after witchbeasts kept her alive as an abandoned baby with a Divine Protection.
  • Meili said she did not want to read about her birth parents, and she teased Subaru after Emilia called him her very important knight.
  • Priscilla, Garfiel, Petra, and Emilia watched the Sky Curtain and discussed Meili’s place in the mansion and Subaru’s efforts to understand and treat her normally.
  • Subaru and Emilia gave up on searching Taygeta’s books for now, and Julius proposed bringing a survey team from the kingdom to help explore the library and find the way upstairs.
  • Anastasia inferred that Shaula was bound by secret rules, and Shaula admitted she had to kill challengers who left the tower before completing its trials.
  • Shaula listed the tower’s restrictions, including that challengers could not leave, abandon or break the trials, disrespect the library, or destroy the tower.

Ch. 39The one who swung the bat (part two)

Vincent, Otto, and Garfiel suspected Shaula had concealed a fifth tower rule, while Emilia found the hidden staircase to the second floor. Subaru touched the sword that began the next trial and summoned Reid Astrea, who required Subaru to gain his permission.

  • Vincent and Otto concluded that Shaula had deliberately hidden a fifth rule, and Garfiel suggested she wanted to keep Subaru from leaving.
  • Emilia reasoned that the tower’s creator would hide the stairs somewhere unexpected, leading the group to find them in an empty room on the fourth floor.
  • Subaru and the others climbed hundreds of stairs into a white room, where they found a sword embedded in the floor.
  • Subaru touched the sword and heard the trial’s demand: gain the permission of the fool who had reached the Heavenly Sword.
  • Reid Astrea appeared before Subaru, and the others recognized him as the first Sword Saint and one of the heroes who had fought alongside Flugel.

Ch. 40The Second Trial

Julius and Anastasia fought Reid, the Sword Saint posing as a “stick swinger,” but were defeated before Emilia challenged him. Emilia exploited Reid’s lecherous distraction to make him move and pass the trial, while Subaru and the others remained challengers as Reid prepared to face the next person.

  • Reid appeared on the second floor and announced that the challengers had to obtain the permission of the fool who had attained the Heavenly Sword.
  • Julius challenged Reid, but Reid caught his sword with chopsticks, overpowered him, and broke his blade; Anastasia collapsed after exhausting herself with heat-ray attacks.
  • Emilia fought Reid with Icebrand Arts and proposed that making him take one step would count as passing the trial.
  • Reid groped Emilia with his chopsticks, and she struck him on the head with an ice gauntlet, making him move and pass her.
  • Reid admitted Emilia had won but announced that Subaru, Beatrice, Julius, Anastasia, Meili, and Ram had not passed, leaving the trial ongoing.
  • In the Sky Curtain, Garfiel, Al, Halibel, Julius, Vincent, Otto, Emilia, and Priscilla discussed Reid’s fighting style and Emilia’s victory.
