Lin Fengyi was tired of hearing it, "I know."
Mother Lin then went around to the passenger side, the window rolled down, and handed Mother Lin Yan Heqing a red envelope with a smile, saying first, "All three brothers receive one. If you refuse, I'll just pull up those seedlings and give them back to you."
Yan Heqing's eyes curved slightly as she accepted the red envelope. "Thank you, Auntie."
"Good boy!" Mother Lin patted the back of his hand and said again, "Come over to play whenever you have time."
Yan Heqing responded.
Mother Lin reluctantly stepped back, watching the car drive out the gate before returning to the house.
Inside the car, Lin Fengyi gripped the steering wheel tightly.
He wanted to ask Yan Heqing if he really had never played games.
Could it be a donkey?
This was the first time he had ever lost a game, and also the first time he had ever been killed twice in a row!
He opened his mouth several times, but couldn't utter a sound.
He was extremely frustrated and reached out to turn on the music player.
It's a rock song.
The atmosphere finally eased a bit, and Lin Fengyi secretly breathed a sigh of relief. Suddenly, Yan Heqing spoke up, "Stop at the intersection ahead."
Lin Fengyi didn't hear clearly, "What?"
Stop at the intersection ahead.
Lin Fengyi frowned. "What do you mean?"
Yan Heqing said calmly, "You hate me, I despise you, but we're just riding in the same car. Let Auntie Lin see it."
Lin Fengyi felt a lump in his throat. He glanced at Yan Heqing, turned the steering wheel, and abruptly stopped at the intersection ahead.
Who would care to give him one!
Yan Heqing unbuckled his seatbelt. "Thank you."
I opened the door, got out of the car, and walked along the main road.
Lin Fengyi felt a pang of sympathy from that "thank you," and he slammed his fist on the steering wheel. "Damn it!"
A moment later, he looked up again, staring at the figure that was walking further and further away.
--
Yan Heqing walked to the main road.
After waiting for a while, a taxi finally arrived.
After giving the address, Yan Heqing took out his phone.
It's 10:30.
His eyes darted around as he logged into WeChat.
Meanwhile, Lu Lin hadn't left work yet; his office was brightly lit, and there were piles of documents, but he hadn't dealt with them.
I stared intently at my WeChat Moments.
His first post on WeChat Moments received a row of likes from profile pictures.
Chu Ziyu flooded the comments section.
[Has our President Lu been hacked?]
[What is this? A flower? A lotus? A water lily?]
[Is Old Lu you?]
[Holy crap! Our Old Lu actually posted on WeChat Moments?! Is tomorrow the end of the world?!]
[I have to take a screenshot to commemorate this! Over 10 years, this is the first one! Comrades, this is the first one!!!!]
Xie Yunjie: [...] Chu Ziyu, don't go crazy!
I couldn't resist either, [the background is Old Lu's office! When did Old Lu start growing succulents?]
Chu Ziyu replied to Xie Yunjie: [What are succulents?]
Xie Yunjie replied to Chu Ziyu: [Search it yourself.]
Chu Ziyu replied to Xie Yunjie: [Found it! Is our President Lu going to start doing environmental charity work?]
Lu Lin did not reply.
A moment later, he tapped the screen to exit the page and noticed a red circle 1 pop up on the screen.
Lu Lin's apple bobbed slightly as he opened his WeChat Moments again.
Default profile picture, 52 Hertz, liked.
Chapter 51
The time is 10:31.
Lu Lin stared at the default profile picture. About five minutes, or maybe ten minutes, passed before he turned off the screen, pulled out a chair, and stood up.
Without changing my clothes, I went into the lounge and grabbed a long black down jacket, which was custom-made and could withstand temperatures as low as -30 degrees Celsius.
He took the elevator to the parking lot, his trunk full of fishing gear, and drove to a private lake.
The night was deep and quiet, and the lake was completely still.
Temperatures have risen in the past two days, and only a few large, partially melted ice floes float on the lake. Late at night on the second day of the Lunar New Year, only one light is on.
Lu Lin only set up a chair and a fishing rod.
The blurry light and shadows were reflected motionless on the water's surface; the empty valley was so still that even the wind seemed to have stopped.
My mind, however, cannot find peace.
Time passed gradually, and the sky began to glow with a creamy hue.
The float finally moved, but Lu Lin didn't pull the rod. His dark eyes were distant as he watched the violently shaking float. Only after it calmed down did he lift the rod.
The fish naturally escaped.
The bait is gone too.
At seven o'clock, Lu Lin put away his pole and returned to the parking lot. He hadn't slept all night, but he didn't look tired. He often worked overtime and traveled for work, and he only needed about two or three hours of sleep a day.
Drive back to the city.
I didn't go to the company or the old house, but instead went to the large apartment where Yan Heqing used to live.
Just like the night he left on the eve of the Lunar New Year, nothing was added or lost. Lu Lin changed into slippers, took a shower in the bathroom, came out wearing a bathrobe, went to the kitchen to boil an egg, heated up two slices of bacon bread, opened the refrigerator to get water, and glanced at the few unopened boxes of blueberries.
He doesn't like sweets, and he can count the number of fruits he eats in a year on two hands.
After a moment, he took out a box of blueberries, washed them with water, and brought them to the living room. He ate alone in the quiet dining room, and then he remembered the last time he ate here, Yan Heqing was sitting opposite him.
The simplest egg noodles he had ever eaten were also the most delicious.
After a brief moment of distraction, Lu Lin cleared the dishes, washed them in the kitchen, and his hair was almost dry. On his way back to the bedroom, he stopped in front of the guest room and turned the doorknob.
The door opened, and the freshly washed bedding smelled of laundry detergent. It was neatly laid out, and the curtains were drawn up, tied with two delicate auspicious knots.
Just then, the assistant called.
The amusement park is scheduled to open on the Lantern Festival (January 15th of the lunar calendar). In addition to the daytime opening activities, Lu Lin asked the planning department to come up with plans for several evening activities.
The planning department submitted it the day before their holiday.
Nothing new, just the same light and fireworks shows that other amusement parks have.
With only about ten days left until the fifteenth, Lu Lin still hadn't finalized a plan, so his assistant came to inquire about the situation.
Looking at the auspicious knot, Lu Lin had a plan. "Release the sky lanterns."
Releasing sky lanterns during the Lantern Festival is a tradition, but when he thought of linking it to an amusement park, the assistant paused for several seconds. After hanging up, he slowly reflected on it and realized it was truly a brilliant idea.
