Xun Yin followed close behind. Without needing to speak, the two stationed themselves on either side of the entrance to the gap between the shipping containers. Pei Qingyu drew a quiet breath and said softly, "Song Ranran, locate Xun Yin and me, then find a way to copy Lin Zhou's tracking system and send it to my phone."

"Yes, Captain." Song Ranran quickly opened the computer she carried with her. Watching the little red dots marking Pei Qingyu and Xun Yin slowly moving west, she turned to make a backup copy, then suddenly murmured, "Huh?"

"Captain, the tracker has stopped working," Song Ranran murmured. "He's disappeared."

Pei Qingyu stopped in his tracks. He exchanged a look with Xun Yin, his fingers slowly clenching.

-they were right in the middle of the shipping containers.

There were paths all around them, yet no way out.

Chapter 10: Who pulled the trigger 10 "You saved me last time."...

It was almost two in the morning. The temperature was dropping little by little, and the medication was gradually wearing off. Pei Qingyu discreetly took half a step back and leaned against a shipping container to steady himself, keeping Xun Yin across from him from noticing anything wrong.

"Let's split up," Pei Qingyu suddenly said hoarsely.

Xun Yin turned to look at the faintly smiling Pei Qingyu, puzzled. "But we don't know what's going on yet. If we split up..." He suddenly fell silent and stepped forward to support Pei Qingyu, whose face was abnormally pale. "Captain?"

"He's cunning. He definitely won't show himself while we're together," Pei Qingyu explained casually. Feigning dizziness, he rested his head in the hollow of Xun Yin's shoulder and suddenly whispered, "Leave here in a moment and circle around behind me. Take the monitor tracking my location and follow behind. Wait for me to draw him out."

"I'll go right," Xun Yin replied casually, but he likewise lowered his voice to say, "Let me lure him out, Captain."

Pei Qingyu shook his head. He really was dizzy; even that slight movement made his head feel as though it would split open. He couldn't help letting out a soft hiss before saying slowly, "You know this place better than I do."

"You saved me last time." Pei Qingyu gently pushed back the man whose expression had suddenly turned cold. "Save me one more time, A-Xun."

The shipping containers were close to the water, and the lapping sounds beside him made his head swim. Pei Qingyu frowned, his palms already slick with cold sweat. The moment Xun Yin rounded the corner, he let out a muffled groan and doubled over. He had never told anyone that ever since he had fallen into the water last time, every similar scene brought on heart palpitations and headaches.

"Post-traumatic stress disorder..." Pei Qingyu gave a derisive laugh and pressed a hand against his aching heart. He knew this was an anxiety attack brought on by returning to the scene of his trauma. He had sent Xun Yin away partly to draw someone out, but also because he couldn't hold on much longer.

Standing in one place too long made it easy to be ambushed. Bracing himself against the wall, Pei Qingyu straightened and slowly walked forward. His heart still hurt with every beat. He wouldn't last long at this rate.

A white light beside him suddenly flickered. Pei Qingyu's gaze shifted. A sudden rush of air came from behind him, and he immediately turned to block, only to feel a tremendous force slam into him. He was hurled against a shipping container with a resounding bang.

"You really aren't afraid to die." The man before him had already removed his mask and was studying Pei Qingyu with interest, as though examining newly acquired prey. "Welcome back, my beauty."

"If you weren't always trying to kill me here, this place would actually be pretty safe."

Pei Qingyu raised his eyes, panting, and stared at him without blinking. He didn't know the man before him, but that look, as though he wanted to devour him alive, felt familiar.

The man was very strong. Even before his injuries, Pei Qingyu wouldn't have been confident of defeating him in one blow, much less now, when every inch of him hurt. He simply gave up struggling, tilted his head back against the shipping container, and asked softly, "You discovered Lin Zhou's tracker a long time ago?"

"He was too greedy. He wanted more, so he was easily discovered."

"So you kept that tracker just to lure me here." In a flash, Pei Qingyu understood everything. He frowned slightly. "But what did Lin Zhou have to bargain with?"

"Shh, that's a question for later. Why don't we settle the simpler ones first?" The man pinning him suddenly tightened his grip. Pei Qingyu groaned, and the knife held between his fingertips fell to the ground with a clang. The man kicked it away. "Why such a temper? Is it because I haven't introduced myself?"

He smiled at the cold sweat on Pei Qingyu's forehead, yet suddenly applied more force. The pain of the bones in his hand being dislocated made Pei Qingyu's vision go black, and his body pitched forward uncontrollably. The man caught him and said with a soft laugh, "Hello, Captain Pei. My name is Zhuo Wumian."

Pei Qingyu trembled, his body spasming involuntarily from the pain of his dislocated hand, but he used the chance as he bent over to give a slight shake of his head. A corner of clothing flashed around the corner, then vanished again.

"It was ice," Pei Qingyu suddenly said quietly.

"Hmm? What?" Zhuo Wumian casually slammed him against the shipping container again. Pei Qingyu coughed for a long while before saying softly, "Your method... the bullet disappeared because it was made of ice-it melted. As for the firing distance..."

Pei Qingyu raised his head, a faint mockery in his eyes. "What you had wasn't a normal handgun at all, but something like... how should I put it, a toy gun. Light, low-powered, easy to hide. We'd been comparing it against normal handguns all along, never realizing that we'd overestimated you."

"Looking at it that way... it really was quite simple." Pei Qingyu lightly squeezed the dislocated bones in his hand. The intense pain instantly cleared his vision.

"How did you figure it out?" Zhuo Wumian didn't get angry. He even began to clap slowly.

"Temperature." Pei Qingyu gave a low laugh. "Thanks to you, my heart is very sensitive to temperature. You carefully planned to kill Lin Zhou at around four in the morning because that's when the temperature is lowest and the bullet would be hardest."

Before he finished speaking, Pei Qingyu suddenly spun and lashed out with a kick, forcing Zhuo Wumian a step back. With a flick of his toe, he flipped up the small knife that had fallen to the ground and hurled it behind him.

"A-Xun!"
