"Besides, I'm not as good a shot as you. Once I bring the bullet back, I'll still need you to save me." Pei Qingyu suddenly leaned closer and stroked Xun Yin's cheek. Xun Yin froze, and a second later, Pei Qingyu strode away.

He reached the far end of the hall without incident, but when he saw what had been placed there, he froze.

-On the table stood a balance scale, with two syringes on one side and a bullet on the other.

Whichever side he chose, the other would drop straight into the high-voltage current.

If he took the syringes, Xun Yin would have no bullets left either, and he himself would be in danger.

If he took the bullet, the case could not be solved.

Pei Qingyu clenched the fingers hanging at his sides hard.

Chapter 29: Who broke the glass 18 - three-in-one paid release

The clock on the wall ticked on without pause. Watching Pei Qingyu stand motionless for so long, Xun Yin grew increasingly anxious. He turned in place twice, forcing himself out of his agitated state and trying to calmly consider the situation as a whole.

The entire setup could be said to have been devised by Zhuo Wumian specifically for Pei Qingyu. He had taken the syringes to lure Pei Qingyu here.

But ultimately, Xun Yin did not know why he was doing this.

"A-Xun?"

Pei Qingyu's weak voice suddenly came from beside him. Xun Yin opened his eyes. Pei Qingyu had already returned unharmed. He gave him a pale-faced smile, then quickly crouched and loaded the bullet into the magazine.

"My arm hurts a little. Will you help me?" Crouching on the floor, Pei Qingyu looked up and handed the gun to Xun Yin.

Xun Yin nodded and took it. He felt that something was a little off about Pei Qingyu, but a closer look revealed nothing unusual.

After handing over the gun, Pei Qingyu sat on the floor with his arms wrapped around himself, staring blankly at something. Xun Yin crouched beside him, only to suddenly discover that Pei Qingyu's entire body was trembling involuntarily.

"Captain, you..."

Xun Yin frowned and instinctively began to speak, but Pei Qingyu suddenly barked, "A-Xun, four o'clock!"

Their years of practiced coordination made Xun Yin turn instinctively. He raised his gun and aimed in one clean motion, taking out the gunman who had just emerged with a short burst.

He quickly crouched again, scooped Pei Qingyu off the floor with one arm, and leaped into the only remaining safe zone-at five o'clock. Almost the very next second, the current beside the spot where Pei Qingyu had been sitting surged over it.

Startled, Pei Qingyu tried to reach up and wrap his arms around Xun Yin's neck, but his arms merely shifted before falling limply again. As though utterly exhausted, he sighed softly and curled his whole body into Xun Yin's embrace, then lay completely still.

"Captain?"

Xun Yin lowered his head slightly in concern. After a long while, Pei Qingyu gave a soft hum and replied quietly, "I'm fine. Go spin the wheel first."

Xun Yin nodded and hoisted him a little higher, then walked over to the central pointer and spun the wheel as instructed.

By rights, this game should have ended when only one space remained, but now there were two people alive in the last space, meaning there were two winners. To some extent, this violated the wheel's rules.

Both Pei Qingyu and Xun Yin knew Zhuo Wumian would not let them off so easily, so they simply continued following the established rules of the game, one step at a time.

As expected, the pointer landed on five o'clock, where Pei Qingyu and Xun Yin stood.

Xun Yin breathed a sigh of relief and looked at his captain. Whether from cold or sheer discomfort, Pei Qingyu was still trembling faintly even after all this time.

Xun Yin pulled Pei Qingyu's coat more snugly around him. Pei Qingyu opened his eyes and smiled at him, then suddenly raised his head and called toward the sole surveillance camera in the corner, "How do you plan to keep playing now?"

The hall was silent. Unbothered, Pei Qingyu continued slowly, "During the earlier game of Russian roulette, you said that as long as we agreed to your demands, you would give us what we needed. The two games don't contradict each other. You must keep your promises."

The bartender-Zhuo Wumian-was in another room in the bar, staring viciously at the two men in the hall.

As soon as Pei Qingyu finished speaking, he paused, then could not help clapping and bursting into laughter.

His playful mood surged. He waved the remaining gunmen away, switched off the broadcast with a click, then reached out and opened the connection at the other end.

The old-fashioned radio in the corner of the bar counter suddenly emitted a burst of piercing static. The shrill buzzing made Pei Qingyu grunt and clutch his chest. He panted for a moment, knowing his provocation had worked.

Zhuo Wumian's voice was no longer teasing and ethereal, but carried more viciousness and exasperation.

"Captain Pei, you're such an important man that your memory must be failing. You were the ones who broke the rules and failed to finish the first game, so why are you still expecting me to honor my promise?"

Zhuo Wumian clapped his hands, then laughed again. "I can honor my promise. As I said before, if you fulfill my demands, I can still uphold the wager from the first round."

He had barely finished speaking when the image on the monitor flickered, and the people on the screen vanished in an instant. At the same time, Pei Qingyu's voice suddenly came from the other end of the room. "What's the rush? The demands you made of me in both rounds were pretty much the same. Why not settle them together?"

Zhuo Wumian started in alarm and immediately lunged toward the monitor, only to find Xun Yin holding Pei Qingyu in the corner at five o'clock. At some point, they had moved the wooden table out from behind the bar counter and were now waiting at their leisure beneath the underground bar's only window.

"You-"

Zhuo Wumian choked with anger. Pei Qingyu coughed twice, a faint flash of scarlet appearing at the corner of his mouth. He wiped his mouth, then looked up at the camera with a slight smile.

Five minutes earlier.

"A-Xun, what demand did you agree to for Zhuo Wumian?" After they spun the wheel, Pei Qingyu suddenly caught Xun Yin's sleeve just as he was about to set off and asked in a whisper.

Xun Yin froze and, for once, said nothing. Pei Qingyu did not mind. He motioned for Xun Yin to put him down and said softly, "When you go over there in a moment, move this table over there too."
