Who pulled the trigger? 7 "Dizzy." Pei Qingyu hesitated...
The others each took their orders. Apart from Pei Qingyu, the only desk worker on the team was Song Ranran, who had been recruited for her IT skills. Even Su Xiaochen had been a military doctor before switching to forensic medicine.
But the Special Case Team never even distinguished between men and women; whenever they were short-handed, everyone had to do fieldwork. Wang Yu waited a moment, then saw that Song Ranran was staring at her phone without moving. He couldn't help leaning over. "Ranran, you were the one who just said you wanted to go out in the field. Why aren't you moving now?"
"Quiet. Let me check something first." Song Ranran put down her phone, quickly pulled over the computer beside her, and began typing.
"Check what?" Wang Yu watched the rapidly running program on the screen with some curiosity.
"Captain Pei just messaged me and asked me to find out why Lin Zhou was working overtime the night he was killed."
The hospital.
When Xun Yin finally arrived after hurrying all the way, he saw Pei Qingyu, already out of his hospital gown, sitting on the bed. He was leaning sideways, stretching out an arm to adjust the IV drip rate beside him.
"What are you doing?"
Pei Qingyu startled. His heart suddenly gave a violent thump, leaving him momentarily unable to catch his breath. His other hand instinctively pressed against his chest, and he could no longer support himself as he toppled sideways.
Xun Yin swiftly stepped forward and caught him before he fell. He was still shaken as he helped Pei Qingyu back onto the bed. Just as he was about to speak, the culprit accused him first. "Don't you know I have a heart condition? Why did you suddenly shout like that?"
"So you do know there's something wrong with your heart!" With a grim expression, Xun Yin moved Pei Qingyu's hand away from his chest, expertly located the pressure points, and slowly massaged them. "The doctor set the drip rate based on your condition. Why fiddle with it for no reason?"
"I'm a doctor too." Pei Qingyu felt a little guilty. Once the tightness in his chest eased somewhat, he pushed Xun Yin's hand away. "Could you stop questioning my professional abilities all the time?"
"Have you forgotten how you gave yourself heart pain the last time you adjusted the drip rate?" Xun Yin replied expressionlessly. He glanced at Pei Qingyu's clothes and asked suspiciously, "Are you being discharged?"
Pei Qingyu averted his eyes. Xun Yin's years of
criminal investigation
experience instantly told him what Pei Qingyu was trying to do. "You adjusted the drip rate so you could get yourself discharged before I came back?"
"How was I supposed to know Song Xuanmo would call you over?" Pei Qingyu's face showed how badly he had miscalculated. Song Xuanmo was his attending physician. On the surface, he was gentle and smilingly agreed to everything, only to turn around and "sell him out."
"If you can make it downstairs without passing out, I'll let you leave." Just then, Song Xuanmo's gentle voice drifted over. He was a little shorter than both Pei Qingyu and Xun Yin, with a mild, refined air. In Pei Qingyu's words, one look was enough to tell he was a good doctor who devoted himself to saving lives.
Song Xuanmo smiled and nodded at Xun Yin, then stepped forward and pressed Pei Qingyu's chest. Pei Qingyu gave a muffled groan, his face instantly growing a little paler.
Song Xuanmo's smile faded. He counted Pei Qingyu's pulse, a trace of worry showing in his expression. "Does it still hurt a lot?"
Pei Qingyu gritted his teeth and shook his head, but cold sweat instantly soaked through his clothes. Song Xuanmo sighed and said gently, "Your heart and lung function was already weak, and this time your lungs were directly injured. I told you to rest quietly and have IV treatment for two days, and here you are trying to adjust the drip rate again..."
"Wait a second, Dr. Song." Pei Qingyu suddenly raised his phone. His forehead was still covered in cold sweat, but his eyes were full of mischief as he looked up. "I've got a reason to leave now."
"Song Ranran found a lead. She needs me to verify it."
Chapter 7: Who pulled the trigger? 7 "Dizzy." Pei Qingyu hesitated...
"Captain, we checked with the person in charge of Lin Zhou's work. There was nothing wrong with any of the work in his folder that night."
Song Ranran quickly tapped a few keys, and a window suddenly popped up on the screen. "But I looked through it again and found a hidden program. It seems to be something like a location tracker."
"What was he tracking?"
"Before yesterday, the location was always Shi Qian's restaurant, but after the restaurant burned down and Shi Qian was arrested, the tracker still didn't stop working." Song Ranran frowned. Lin Zhou's technology was highly secure, and she couldn't manipulate it freely. She could only stare gravely at the blinking red dot on the screen. "Wait, Captain, it just moved!"
"Tell me the route. Hss..."
As Pei Qingyu spoke, he turned over and sat up on the bed. A sudden wave of dizziness made him sway. Xun Yin, beside him, quickly steadied him, frowning as he watched Pei Qingyu close his eyes and shake his head.
"Captain?" Hearing something off in Pei Qingyu's voice, Song Ranran grew anxious. Pei Qingyu's chest felt tight. He took a moment to catch his breath, then said quietly, "I'm fine. Go on."
"They seem to be heading toward Lin Zhou's company."
"Mm. When was this tracker created?" Just before hanging up, Pei Qingyu suddenly asked another question.
"Hm? Let me check." Song Ranran paused, then quickly answered, "About six months ago."
"If anything else changes, let us know right away."
Pei Qingyu hung up, but didn't hurry to leave. Instead, he looked up at Song Xuanmo, who stood nearby with his arms folded, watching the show. Song Xuanmo froze. His smiling lips slowly pressed together, and he seemed to give a soft sigh.
"What is it?" Realizing that Pei Qingyu seemed to be planning something, Xun Yin asked warily.
"Are you dizzy sitting up right now?"
Instead of answering Xun Yin's question, Song Xuanmo stepped straight forward and felt Pei Qingyu's carotid pulse. Seeing his hesitation, he added unhurriedly, "You know I can tell. Be honest."
"Dizzy."
Pei Qingyu hesitated before answering. The incandescent light in the ward seemed to sway before his eyes. He had to blink slowly to ease the nausea brought on by the dizziness.
"Can you stand up by yourself?"
Song Xuanmo stepped back. Pei Qingyu was silent for a moment, then braced himself on the bed rail and slowly rose. In an instant, however, he let out a muffled groan, his body went limp, and he pitched forward. Even though Xun Yin had been watching his condition the whole time, he was still startled. He immediately stepped forward to catch him and helped him slowly sit back down on the bed.
