The Thousand Sunny sailed quietly on its Sea Route back to familiar star systems. A sense of tranquility and exhaustion, as if the ship had survived a catastrophe, filled the cabin. In Chopper's medical room, Allen was still asleep, but his breathing was steady and his complexion had regained some color. The life force returning from the world was slowly and effectively repairing his overdrawn essence.
The other members rested and treated their injuries, processing their experiences in the near-death dimension. That battle against the very nature of the rules had given each of them a deeper understanding of their own abilities, as if they had undergone a spiritual tempering.
Nami carefully calculated the "gains" and "losses" of this trip. The losses were naturally the huge consumption of resources and the damage to the ship, but the gains... Looking at the massive amount of data about the Ionian Civilization in the recorder, the insights into a deeper understanding of the rules, and most importantly—successfully preventing a disaster that could have affected the multiverse, she felt that all the sacrifices were worthwhile.
"Although we didn't find the treasure..." Nami sighed, but then cheered up, "But this knowledge might be more valuable than treasure! Hmm, I'll have to figure out how to monetize it when we get back..."
In this relatively peaceful atmosphere, one night, Brook, who was on watch, was playing a soothing nocturne on the deck to calm everyone's tired spirits. Suddenly, an unnatural vibrato appeared in his music.
"Hmm?" Brook stopped playing, his empty eye sockets gazing into the depths of the starry sky. As the Soul King, he was exceptionally sensitive to certain special energy fluctuations.
He sensed an extremely faint yet exceptionally clear "call." It wasn't a sound, but rather a Beacon directly affecting the soul, carrying a sense of... intimacy and urgency.
"Everyone, there's a situation," Brook whispered through the communicator, trying not to wake anyone who was asleep.
Soon, Luffy, Zoro, Sanji, Law, and several other alert members arrived on the deck.
"What's wrong? Bones?" Luffy asked, rubbing his sleepy eyes.
"I sensed a strange Beacon," Brook said, pointing out the porthole in a seemingly empty direction. "It was faint, but very peculiar... It felt... somewhat like the fluctuations of the Poneglyph, but different, more... 'alive'?"
" The Poneglyph?" Robin, awakened, instantly perked up. She walked to Brook's side, closed her eyes, and carefully sensed the text. After a moment, she opened her eyes, her gaze filled with surprise and confusion.
"It certainly has an ancient feel, but it's not from any known Poneglyph carrier. This fluctuation... seems to be actively 'calling' for something with the ability to decipher it, or... something with certain special qualities." She looked at Luffy and Nami (who had just arrived after hearing the news, carrying recording equipment), "It's guiding the direction."
Nami immediately adjusted the detector, aiming it in the direction Brook had indicated. Initially, she found nothing, but when she adjusted the detection frequency to an extremely obscure band, a faint, flickering dot finally appeared on the screen!
"It really is! This signal... I've never seen the encryption method before! It's repeating a complex message..." Nami tried to decipher it, but progress was slow.
"What is it saying?" Luffy curiously as he leaned closer.
"Still analyzing... It seems to have mentioned 'legacy,' 'trials,' 'waiting'... and... the Will of D.'?" Nami frowned.
"D?" A thought struck everyone. This letter, which carried the initial of a special destiny, appeared once again in an unexpected way.
"Want to go see it?" Sanji lit a cigarette and looked at Luffy.
Luffy adjusted his straw Straw Hat, looked at the faint light on the screen, then glanced towards the medical room. "Anyway, Allen's still sleeping, and we don't have anything to do. Besides, 'legacy' sounds interesting! Maybe there's meat in it!"
"All you ever think about is meat!" Nami retorted habitually, but her fingers were already rapidly calculating the route to the Beacon's source. "The distance isn't too far, about three days' journey off the main route. Energy reserves... barely enough."
"Let's go!" Luffy waved his hand.
New curiosity and the unknown easily aroused the Straw Hat Pirates's desire for adventure. The Thousand Sunny slightly adjusted its direction and headed towards the location from which the mysterious Beacon was emitted.
Unbeknownst to them, this seemingly accidental discovery would lead them to a long-buried past that reveals deeper secrets about the world, and might even be intricately connected to the will of "D," the Void Century, and the promise Joy Boy failed to keep.
The destination of the voyage may not only be the way home, but also the prelude to unveiling the final mystery.
