Background / History
The Dawn Pirates first sail from Blizzard City aboard the aging Grey Dolphin, with Thousand Threads serving as captain. Though regarded by other pirates as inexperienced newcomers, the crew is notably cohesive in battle: its Giant members, martial artists, sumo wrestlers, and even young Lolota prepare to defend the ship when encircled by three hostile pirate groups. 294 295
During the attack, the crew is nearly overwhelmed by an enemy force of seven to eight hundred. Suren's large-scale puppet deployment reverses the battle, revealing the combat potential that would become central to the group's future operations. 295 296
After their ship is destroyed by Grand Duke Raphael's Mechanical Octopuses, Suren creates a replacement three-masted vessel. The crew subsequently operates the New Dawn while salvaging survivors and preparing for further expansion. 362 363
The group grows substantially when Barrett and the Holy Judgment Pirates join. Their surviving Royal Knights are reorganized into Barrett's Third Squad, supplementing Thousand Threads' First Squad and Dr. Banks's Second Squad. Barrett introduces standardized command authority, codewords, emergency plans, and reward-and-punishment systems drawn from his military experience. 381 382
While investigating the Agapanon Temple's suspected sacrifice plot, the Dawn Pirates unanimously vote to intercept North Sea Fleet vessels despite the danger. Their campaign leads them through Devil's Island and the Sea Ruins, where they salvage treasures, capture the North Sea Kraken, and eventually claim the Sea Emperor Class battleship Eternal Night Emperor as their new home. 381 385 392
The group later expands beyond ordinary piracy. It battles the fleets and Ten Thousand Mage Corps of the Heavenly God Plane, aids the Alchemy Plane's combined fleet, and resolves to share its gene potions, ancient alchemy manuscripts, and secret techniques with the military and alchemy organizations of the Alchemy Plane. 595 602
Organization
- Dawn Organization — The crew considers itself more than a pirate band: it is part of the wider organization known as Dawn, whose members view alchemical civilization's revival as a common goal. 381 411
- First Squad — Originally led by Thousand Threads; assigned to intercept and hold positions during the assault on the Eternal Night Emperor. 382 392
- Second Squad — Led by Dr. Banks; assigned to clear enemy Ghost Ships during the Eternal Night Emperor operation. 382 392
- Third Squad — Led by Barrett and largely composed of former Holy Judgment Legion knights; spearheaded the boarding and cabin-clearing operation on the Eternal Night Emperor. 382 392
- Ten Thousand Mage Corps / Ten Thousand Alchemist Corps — A large-scale spellcasting formation developed under Mr. Black, using Magic Towers and Dragon Language Alchemy. 595 633
Capabilities & Resources
Naval Warfare
The Dawn Pirates use superior cannon technology, trained gunners, and coordinated naval maneuvers to engage stronger or more numerous fleets. Barrett's former Royal Academy personnel include Advanced and Master Gunners, allowing three warships to coordinate around one hundred cannons with high accuracy. 384
- Their artillery can suppress enemy ships before boarding actions become necessary. 384 527
- The Eternal Night Emperor possesses speed far beyond ordinary sailing warships, making interception in open sea difficult. 410
- The crew has employed the Small Void Realm to protect the Eternal Night from battlefield hazards, including magically frozen seas. 549
Puppet Legion
Suren's puppetry provides the Dawn Pirates with a scalable combat force capable of changing large engagements.
- Rune Anomaly Puppets first overwhelm enemy boarders during the defense of the Grey Dolphin. 295 296
- Suren controls more than 1,000 Mechanical and Anomaly Puppets during the Moros City-State battle. 415
- By the Burial Ground of Gods expedition, the Puppet Legion includes 30,000 Gargoyles. 634
- Puppets allow the crew to confront monster swarms and organized enemy formations without relying solely on its human members. 415 634
Dragon-Blood Enhancement
The crew acquires gene potions, Dragon Implants, and materials during its western expeditions, greatly raising its average physical ability and combat potential.
- Many members possess Giant Dragon bloodlines and Dragon Race Implants, improving their individual strength and compatibility in formations. 633
- Dawn combatants are visibly larger and more robust than comparable Professionals due to gene-potion modification. 602
- The crew publicly offers Giant Dragon, Titan, Behemoth, Spirit, and Griffon gene-potion knowledge to the Alchemy Plane. 602
Dragon Language Military Formation
Mr. Black develops a formation system that combines Dragon Language with Alchemy.
- Dragon Language can mobilize the Laws of heaven and earth, a level of power normally associated with Ninth Order Professionals. 633
- The system allows ordinary Dawn members to employ portions of Dragon Language Alchemy through a progressive training framework. 633
- The completed Ten Thousand Alchemist Corps is stated to exceed Ninth Order combat power. 633
