Background / History

Dong Qi is the only daughter of Master Dong Jiu, Hong Lou's leader. Though her mother gave her a more delicate-sounding name, she chose to call herself “Dong Qi” after her father, whose name is Dong Jiu. 126

As Hong Lou's young miss, she grew up within Sinless City's gang world but retained a strong attachment to Uncle Xiong, the food-stall owner whose meals she had eaten since childhood. She also developed an intense interest in ancient mechanical knowledge, collecting texts and blueprints she could not fully decipher herself. 125 126

Her first major encounter with Ji Xun occurs when the Brotherhood ambushes a Big Ivan convoy to lure out Hong Lou. Dong Qi's unusually advanced armor allows her to fight Atai on even terms, but a hidden Curse Witch uses a puppet technique to break her limbs and leave her vulnerable to capture. 122 Ji Xun infiltrates the Brotherhood's vehicle, rescues her, and later removes the activated Human-faced Ghost Scorpion Gu worm from her body through emergency surgery. 123 124
