During a mutant rescue operation, he encounters a frenzied imprisoned woman, subdues her, and breaks the collar that has restrained her for ten years. He then takes the front position in the escape, using a steel door to shield the rescued group from gunfire 18 19 20.

Jean Grey and Alcatraz

Jean’s return forces Chen Xiao into conflict before he considers himself ready. He upgrades his X-Gene during their early confrontation, later fights Juggernaut while Professor X approaches Jean, and advises the weakened X-Men to regroup rather than immediately attack the Brotherhood 30 31 40 46.

For the San Francisco mission, he proposes using Scott to awaken Jean’s original consciousness. At Alcatraz, he protects Scott’s life-support pod and confronts Jean through the Phoenix Force’s destructive release.
