Background / History

Childhood and Sect Connections

Wen Jiao grew up in the Pill Pavilion, where exposure to rare treasures helped cultivate her outward composure. Her Heavenly Yin Baleful Intent Physique afflicted her from childhood, and the Pavilion spent years seeking physicians, alchemy grandmasters, medicines, and treasures without finding a lasting cure 6.

Because her father, Wen Daoyuan, was an honorary elder of the Jade Firmament Sect, she spent years on its back mountain nourishing her damaged meridians. She later followed her second grandfather and master, Wen Buqi, to the Heavenly Sword Sect, joining it nominally while spending much of her time elsewhere 25 190.

Pill Formula Agreement and Treatment

Wen Jiao negotiated the Pill Pavilion’s purchase arrangement for Chu Yunfei’s ancient grade-two Blood-Replenishing Pill formula. Their soul-marked contract granted him thirty percent of the pills’ net profits for five years, with a one-thousand-low-grade-spirit-stone advance 6.

During the same visit, her physique erupted violently. Chu Yunfei identified it and offered treatment, despite Uncle Yao’s initial opposition. Wen Jiao overruled her steward and accepted the procedure for a fee of five thousand spirit stones 6 7.

The treatment required three sessions. Chu Yunfei used the Divine Cauldron of Heavenly Mandate to extract the accumulated Yin Baleful Intent, restoring circulation through her meridians. After the second session, she gave him an earth-grade sword technique in thanks. Before the final treatment, the remaining energy retaliated fiercely enough to threaten her meridians and soul; his two-hour intervention removed the last of it and cured the illness 8 19 24.

Her gratitude developed into attachment. She felt unexpectedly empty when Chu Yunfei declared that they no longer owed each other anything, and offered to recommend him to the Heavenly Sword Sect with at least core-disciple training and resources. He declined 24 25.

Defying the Heavenly Sword Sect

Wen Jiao intervened when Nangong Wuhen and his allies sought to capture Chu Yunfei. She declared him an honored guest under the Pill Pavilion’s protection because he had saved her life, refusing to withdraw even when Mo Yuan’s Divine Sea Realm pressure overwhelmed her. A black-robed protector blocked most of that pressure 65 66.

She had also asked her longtime friend Ling Xueyao to come to Qingyang City, helping secure Chu Yunfei’s escape from the Heavenly Sword Sect’s grasp. Before he departed for the imperial capital, Wen Jiao advised him to seek assistance from the Pill Pavilion’s head pavilion master if necessary 72 167.

Later, Wen Buqi warned her through the Wen Family’s highest-level secret communication channel that the Heavenly Sword Sect leadership intended to act against Chu Yunfei after the Seven Sects Grand Competition. Wen Jiao ordered her vessel to hurry toward the capital rather than wait for her father to negotiate 167.

Saving Chu Yunfei

After Chu Yunfei was found critically injured outside the imperial capital, Wen Jiao took him to the Jade Firmament Sect instead of returning him to the increasingly dangerous city. Wen Buqi concluded that only the sect’s seventh-grade Nine-Aperture Life-Restoring Pill might save him 179 182.

Wen Jiao refused to abandon him and was willing to stake the entire Pill Pavilion on his survival. The Pavilion offered thirty percent of its net profits for a hundred years in exchange for the pill, but the effort failed. Zhou Changgeng and Zhou Heng attempted to make her marriage to Zhou Heng the condition for obtaining it; she rejected them outright 182 185 189 204.

Xiaoxiao Dragon then taught her the Dragon and Phoenix Dao Emperor Scripture. Although Chu Yunfei had removed her harmful Sha Qi, her pure extreme Yin source Qi remained and could restore him through dual cultivation. Wen Jiao ordered Uncle Yao to keep everyone away, sealed the courtyard, and carried out the treatment while Chu Yunfei was unconscious 186.

The procedure restored Chu Yunfei’s shattered meridians and spiritual pool while raising Wen Jiao to the Divine Sea Realm Third Layer. After he awakened, they acknowledged their feelings and began addressing each other as spouses 187 188 189.

Jade Firmament Sect Conflict and Return

When Zhou Heng insulted Wen Jiao and attacked Chu Yunfei, she prepared to fight and crushed three high-grade blood-patterned jade slips to summon help. Chu Yunfei killed Zhou Heng, provoking Zhou Changgeng’s retaliation 191 192.

During a later ambush on the Pill Pavilion’s flying boat, Wen Jiao and Uncle Yao jointly held off a Divine Sea Realm Sixth Layer elder while Wen Buqi and Chu Yunfei fought the other attackers. After returning to the imperial capital, she reunited with her father, who thanked Chu Yunfei and approved of their devotion to one another 199 204.

Preparations for the Grand Competition

Wen Jiao helped Chu Yunfei gather perfectly preserved demonic beast corpses and soul-nourishing herbs through the Pill Pavilion’s branches and secret channels. At his request, she agreed to keep the procurement secret even from her father 221.

She also examined Ling Chengxuan’s intelligence on the Blood Baleful Intent Tower’s infiltration of the seven sects, identifying Nangong Hai and Yin Xiaotian among its collaborators. She and Chu Yunfei discussed possibly going to the Vast Waves Sacred Academy when its envoys arrived 229.

Before the competition, she delivered Ling Xueyao’s personal jade pendant to Chu Yunfei, enabling him to recognize Ling Zhantian’s threat against the princess. She agreed to remain outside the Heavenly Mystic Secret Realm and persuaded Yao Yue to stay behind by making continued Pill Pavilion protection conditional on doing so 253.

At the public gathering, Wen Jiao accused the Cangyun Sect and Puppet Sect of sending elders to ambush Chu Yunfei. As their heirs subsequently died inside the secret realm, her concern shifted toward the senior experts awaiting his return. She welcomed the arrival of Wen Heshan, the Pill Pavilion’s ancestor, but remained alert to the possibility that other sects’ Dao Mysterious Realm experts would join the confrontation 257 301 302 303.

Appearance

  • Eyes and complexion: Phoenix-shaped eyes, long eyelashes, and fair, jade-like skin 6 8 19.
  • Hair: Long black hair, worn pinned up with a green jade hairpin during Chu Yunfei’s second treatment visit 19.
  • Clothing: Wears pale azure, plain white, and pale purple dresses; her purple outfit includes a thin white gauze layer 19 189 190.
  • Physique manifestation: Pale blue baleful markings appear between her brows during an attack, accompanied by spreading frost 6.

Personality

Wen Jiao is normally aloof, restrained, and authoritative. She rarely initiates friendships, making her offer to recommend Chu Yunfei to the Heavenly Sword Sect unusual. Even while weakened by an attack, she can command Uncle Yao’s obedience without raising her voice 6 7 25.

Her loyalty is forceful rather than merely sentimental. She confronts sect authorities, rejects coercive marriage demands, and persists in seeking a cure for Chu Yunfei despite the potential cost to her family’s business. She also remains attentive to institutional risks, refusing to let Yao Yue expose the Pill Pavilion to consequences from her Demon Race identity 66 182 185 253.

Around Chu Yunfei, her cool demeanor frequently gives way to embarrassment and jealousy. Ling Xueyao’s engagement troubles her despite their friendship, and she openly challenges his closeness to Lin Wanyin. Nevertheless, she worries about his safety and protects his secrets even from Wen Buqi 167 189 208 220.

Abilities & Skills

Heavenly Yin Baleful Intent Physique

A rare physique that greatly accelerates cultivation of Yin-attribute techniques 6.

  • Before awakening: Accumulated Yin Baleful Intent periodically attacks its host, feeding on spiritual power and freezing the meridians. External intervention can aggravate an episode 6.
  • After treatment: Removing the harmful accumulation does not erase the physique or its pure extreme Yin source Qi 186.
  • Combat use: Releases icy, deep-blue Heavenly Yin Baleful Intent Qi. With Uncle Yao’s support, she can hold a Divine Sea Realm Sixth Layer opponent at bay 199.
  • Development limit: Her physique is still in its earliest awakening stage during that battle and has not reached minor accomplishment 199.

Dragon and Phoenix Dao Emperor Scripture

An ancient dual-cultivation art transmitted to her by Xiaoxiao Dragon 186.

  • Combines her extreme Yin source Qi with Chu Yunfei’s supremely Yang constitution to restore his damaged dantian, meridians, and vitality 186 187.
  • Produces true-dragon and heavenly-phoenix manifestations during circulation 186.
  • Advances her cultivation by two minor realms during the healing process 187 189.
  • Is difficult to stop once activated and leaves her severely exhausted during its initial use 187.

Pavilion Administration and Intelligence

  • Negotiates pill-formula contracts and authorizes advances against future profits 6.
  • Mobilizes branch offices and secret procurement channels for sensitive requests 221.
  • Uses Wen Family blood-pattern communication and directs investigations into attacks on Chu Yunfei and events in the imperial palace 167 182.
  • Recognizes the political danger of the competition’s expanded eligibility and unrestricted secret-realm format 248.

  • Uncle Yao — Trusted steward and protector. Oversees her treatment arrangements, accompanies her travels, and supports her in battle 7 167 199.
  • Ling Xueyao — Close friend of many years. Wen Jiao summons her to help Chu Yunfei, then struggles with jealousy after learning of their engagement 167.
  • Zhou Heng — Unwanted suitor who regards her as his future Dao companion. She rejects his advances and his attempt to make marriage the price of saving Chu Yunfei 183 185.
  • Lin Wanyin — Romantic rival whose intimacy with Chu Yunfei provokes Wen Jiao’s jealousy 208 220.
  • Yao Yue — Qingqiu princess left in her care. Wen Jiao recognizes the political risks of sheltering her and firmly limits actions that could endanger the Pavilion 245 253.
  • Wen Heshan — Wen Family and Pill Pavilion ancestor. His arrival strengthens the Pavilion’s ability to resist the sects threatening Chu Yunfei 301 302.
