You can call me whatever you want, but what's our goal tonight?
Upon hearing Duma ask such a question, [ Mysterious Goblin ] said:
"Today we plan to create some chaos at a military camp, but not the one you set fire to yesterday."
[ Mysterious Goblin ] didn't forget to turn on the translation function today, so Duma naturally heard that non-standard Kingdom language that didn't match the lip movements again.
He paused for a moment, then realized he could actually understand what the other person was saying.
It's obviously impossible to learn a language in just one day, meaning this person was already able to speak the Kingdom Language yesterday.
But why didn't he say so yesterday?
Is this a test of himself?
But every test needs a reason, and what conclusion can be drawn from testing in this way?
Duma was completely baffled by this, but outwardly pretended nothing had happened and said:
Which military camp?
"The one in the southwest corner of Fir City, I heard it was newly built in the last couple of days."
Upon hearing this answer, Duma was immediately speechless. Why would there be a newly established military camp in the southwest corner of the city?
That's hard to guess. Could it be because that devil himself burned down the Second Legion Holy Crusaders's camp yesterday?
He forced back a twitching smile and asked:
"So what kind of chaos are we planning to create?"
To be honest, Duma actually wanted to hear the word "arson" from the other party, but the [ Mysterious Goblin's ] answer was:
"Those soldiers probably aren't very familiar with the newly built barracks yet, and neither are we, so the intelligence gap between the two sides will be much smaller. I want to try to see if I can sneak into the barracks and smuggle some documents out."
Duma suddenly realized:
"So they were trying to steal something."
"Eh eh eh--"
[ Mysterious Goblin ] revealed a serious expression:
How can you call that stealing?
"What should it be called?"
"Intelligence gathering."
"Ah, right, right, intelligence gathering."
Duma agreed with the other person, but what he was thinking was something else entirely—
In fact, the intelligence gap between them and the Holy Crusaders was much greater than [ Mysterious Goblin ] had imagined, because the architect who drew the blueprints for that military camp was now standing right in front of the two young men.
If he's willing to release the information, tonight's infiltration will definitely go incredibly smoothly.
But Duma knew he couldn't explain the source of the intelligence. After thinking for a moment, he decided to use his Psionic Energy Sleep Spell and his knowledge of the terrain to lead the two of them to complete the mission. He was curious to know what methods these infiltrators would use to quickly transmit the intelligence after this was done.
As night deepened, Duma sensed the presence of nearby Treant Hunter, which subtly guided the two through the streets and alleys.
Sometimes they could even see the roots of the Treant Hunter passing by, but thanks to the guidance of the Great Demon, the two of them did not reveal any trace of themselves, only feeling terrified the whole way.
About two hours later, the three arrived near the military camp, which still smelled of wood. The camp was heavily guarded and seemed to have no loopholes to exploit.
What do we do now?
"I have no idea what to do," the Mysterious Goblin asked.
Duma knew it was time for him to perform. He thought for a moment and then pretended to say:
"How about this, I'll distract the guards at the door, and you two can sneak in."
This is a plan that seems reasonable, but in reality it will not be approved at all, because it is too similar to what he did yesterday, and he could easily be caught.
After two days of conversation, Duma had gained some understanding of the two young people's inner state.
Both of them are of decent character and are very considerate of their teammates' experience. [ Mysterious Goblin ] is a bit slow-witted and probably rarely makes decisions, so there's only one person who can contradict him!
As expected, [ the Dark and Heavy Secret ] shook his head and said:
"I'll draw the guards away, and you two can sneak in."
He reached out and patted the two of them on the shoulder:
" Goblin, listen to Little Du's instructions; he's very experienced in this area. Little Du, Goblin has a slight intellectual disability, so please be patient with him."
"You're the one with an intellectual disability."
[ The Mysterious Goblin ] uttered a dismissive remark, but without interrupting the rhythm of [ The Dark and Heavy Secret ]:
"I will try to stall for as long as possible. If I get caught, don't worry about me."
Duma's expression was grave, but suspicion had already begun to creep into his heart.
Is it not a bit too wasteful to use such loyal soldiers as pawns to infiltrate Fir City and gather intelligence?
Before the Demonic Tide, it was rare to find such a loyal individual, whether among humans or demons; the vast majority of creatures still prioritized their own interests.
Duma could understand this idea, but having seen subordinates who only did things for money, he was still surprised to see such a loyal individual again.
But the [ Mysterious Goblin ] was not surprised at all:
"That's settled then, buddy. See you in Valhalla Hall of Heroic Spirits."
Hall of Heroic Spirits?
Duma's heart skipped a beat. He had never heard of this word before, but he could still discern some of its meaning from the fabricated combination of words.
Heroic spirits? Is this a blessing? A promise? Or just a brainwashing tactic?
The more doubts there were, the more excited Duma became.
He nodded calmly as well, and then the three of them went their separate ways. Duma and [ Mysterious Goblin ] lay in a secluded corner, while [ Dark and Heavy Secret ] sneaked up to the vicinity of the military camp.
Paralysis bombs, petrol bombs, thorn bombs...
As a bunch of fancy trinkets were thrown into the military camp by [ the Dark and Heavy Secret ], a small commotion quickly arose.
The furtive figure was naturally spotted by the night watchmen on the high tower, and after a few orders, a midnight chase officially began.
Seeing that both the visible and invisible sentries were already drawn to the [ Dark and Heavy Secret ], Duma pointed ahead and began to wriggle with the [ Mysterious Goblin ] in the midnight.
The two quickly infiltrated the camp, where flames were already rising in a corner. The Second Order of Knights Holy Crusaders, who had just been burned down the night before, were naturally cursing and swearing, while fighting the fire and wishing the arsonist's ancestors a hundred generations back.
In the slightly chaotic military camp Duma quietly used his abilities, gently pressing his hand on the necks of two Holy Crusaders, who immediately fell into a deep sleep.
The Mysterious Goblin's mouth gaped wide when it saw the Master of soothing sleep unleash his magic.
"Dude, whose skill is that? How much trust do I need to learn it? Do I need to pay?"
This is certainly a personal skill, but what about trust? As for paying money, does paying money really guarantee you'll learn it?
Duma felt a little disdainful, but on the surface he remained calm and composed.
"It's not a skill, it's just sheer power."
