Gorn's clenched teeth made him look like a wronged protagonist in some literature who was targeted by the whole world; at that moment, he just felt like dying.
This was the thing he couldn't understand the most. If both sides collapsed, he could simply surrender. Why did the rebels insist on inciting their men to capture him?
Look up at our faces!
[ Gu Gugu ] said in a serious tone:
"Don't you recognize us as the people you killed at the supply depot?"
What supply station?
What... a supply depot?!
Gorn suddenly remembered something. He recalled the time he led two knightly orders out of the city to conquer territory, only to return with a dozen or so heads and a large amount of frozen fish.
He returned to Fir City in a triumphant manner, looking like a bandit who had just finished looting.
But how could I have imagined back then that these people wouldn't die at all, or that they would gather thousands of people just to avenge that one grudge?
Gorn's face contorted in pain; he dared not admit he recognized her, nor that he didn't. After a moment of hesitation, he could only offer this explanation:
"These were all Marba's orders, I was just a..."
The next instant, a tall, red figure appeared beside Gorn, a thick arm reaching forward, the thumb and middle finger gripping Gorn's chin.
"Click."
With a slight exertion of force, Duma dislocated Gorn's jaw.
His jaw drooped, his tongue swirling in his open mouth, trying to say something but unable to articulate it clearly; only saliva dripped around him.
Seeing this, Duma finally felt relieved.
In just over a day, he had already figured out the nature of these Soul Returner.
It's enough for the Son of God to know that I'm impersonating Marba. If these Soul Returner were to discover that I had previously sent people to attack their supply depot in order to fit my persona, then there would be a huge problem.
What was the Son of God's saying again? Don't say things that are detrimental to unity.
Seeing the questioning look in the eyes of the Soul Returner, Duma calmly said without changing his expression:
"As far as I know, Marba died in the attack on Valhalla, and all his men have been captured."
"There's no way to verify this now, so he can say whatever he wants. I don't think there's any need for an investigation; let's just handle it as it comes."
As Duma spoke, he secretly used his Demonic Whisper ability, wanting to test whether his power could influence these Soul Returner.
However, what he said did make sense, but the Demonic Whisper had no effect.
Duma recalled Ed's comments about the Soul Returner and once again gleaned valuable information from them.
The Son of God Child once said that to become a resilient soul, one must give up something. What these madmen gave up is unknown, but at least their souls are truly resilient...
Looking at the sincere-looking Duma, [ Good Times Don't Last ], who had orchestrated this revenge plan, nodded.
Before setting off, he had already submitted the entire plan to Ed for review. Ed not only approved the operation, but also introduced Duma to the group of players who liked to fight as a military advisor for the operation, responsible for certain aspects of the support work.
The so-called Legion Commander is actually an NPC who will be in charge of the overall command of the Soul Returner' battles for a long time to come. Ed still hopes that the two sides can work together well, and at least that one side will not be a burden.
Gorn, whose jaw had been forcibly dislocated, nearly fainted from the excruciating pain. After a long while, he recovered and asked in a slurred, distorted voice:
"What exactly do you want from me?"
"Oh, you really want to know right away?"
[ The Good Times Don't Last ] He looked at the Grand Knight Commander before him with a meaningful expression:
" Antiya Lisi and Marba are both dead, and the cathedral in Fir City is currently lacking a 'caretaker.' I submitted your name, and His Highness the Son of God approved it."
Gorn looked shocked upon hearing this:
"You intend to make me the archbishop?"
He couldn't understand at all why things had turned out this way.
He was just an ordinary prisoner. Although he was a Grand Knight Commander, according to the group of people in front of him, at least ten Grand Knight Commanders had been captured. His strength was mediocre among the Grand Knight Commanders, so there was no way he could be the one to be captured.
And if they want them to do things for them, why put themselves through this torture?
[ The Good Times Don't Last ] Upon hearing this, he stroked his chin and began to think, while [ Gu Gugu ] slapped Gorn on the back of the head:
"Dream on! Archbishop? Do I look like an archbishop?"
Duma nodded and pressed on:
"I don't understand this either. Why should he be appointed as the head of the Fir City Cathedral?"
"Because it will become a famous tourist attraction."
[ The Good Times Don't Last ] Finally having figured out the appropriate way to express this matter, he said earnestly:
" Duma, do you know what a ' Dungeon ' is?"
Duma shook his head.
[ The Good Times Don't Last ] and so the story began:
"Ever since we recaptured White Wax Town six months ago, the Son of God Child has ordered the church to be renovated."
"The renovated church will no longer allow ordinary worshippers to enter for prayer; it will only be open to the Soul Returner, and it has been given a new name— 'The Dungeon.'"
"Etc."
Duma's doubts interrupted [ the Good Times Don't Last ]:
Doesn't the Second Holy See need faith?
[ The Good Times Don't Last. ] Not knowing how to explain the game's mechanics to the NPC, he pondered for a few seconds and finally helped Ed answer the question:
"I don't know about that. Son of God means is that instead of spending time praying in church, it's better to do more work and earn money."
"Where can I pray if I really want to?"
"Go to the Adventurers' Guild Adventurers' Guild. Every town has one now, staffed with the most loyal Pure Ones priests or Holy Crusaders. They can also arrange jobs for ordinary believers and NPCs."
Duma scratched his head.
"Does Fir City have any Adventurers' Guild?"
"Yes, it is, in the chapel."
Duma now understood. Fir City previously had two churches, one large and one small, serving as its hub. Now, the smaller church had become the Adventurers' Guild, functioning somewhat like the administrative offices of the Southern Empire, while the larger church had become Dungeon. But what exactly was Dungeon?
"But what exactly is Dungeon?"
Duma asked whatever came to mind.
This problem also gave [ Good Times Don't Last ] a bit of a headache: how exactly should they explain these terms, which only players could understand, to the NPCs?
