[Underground passage investigation task]
Task Type: Calamity Beast Search/Area Investigation
Danger Level: Level 2 (Recommended for Second Tier and above martial artists to participate in a team)
Task Background:
Two electricians were found dead in an underground pipe in the western part of the city yesterday. Bloodstains and scattered tools were found at the scene.
Preliminary investigation by the Calamity Beast Emergency Management Department has determined it to be a Calamity Beast attack.
The whereabouts of the target Calamity Beast are currently unknown, and a comprehensive investigation of the surrounding underground passages is required.
Task requirements:
Form teams of 3-5 people, carrying lighting equipment and communication tools;
Focus on investigating areas of abnormal cable breakage (see attached map for details);
The mission area contains a complex pipeline structure, requiring basic orientation identification capabilities;
It is recommended to report any sightings of the Calamity Beast.
Reward for confirming the location of the Calamity Beast:
100/300/800/1500 points/team
(Based on the rank of the Calamity Beast, starting from Zero Tier )
" Tier 0, Tier 1, Tier 2..." someone was counting the tiers of rewards. "Why is it only Tier 3? There's no Fourth Tier?"
"If you actually encounter Fourth Tier, you can forget about getting the reward," someone nearby laughed.
Upon hearing his words, the crowd couldn't help but burst into laughter.
"Indeed!" The man chuckled, unconcerned. "But this is the first time I've ever seen a mission that actively sends us to a certain place to find Calamity Beast."
Although the Calamity Beast has been increasing in recent years, there are still very few missions available in the Martial Arts Association.
So far, there are only three types of tasks.
The first type is permanent missions.
Defeat the Calamity Beast and then obtain the points exchanged with the Martial Arts Association.
The second type is the official recruitment mission of the Martial Arts Association.
For example, the instructors recruited before the Lunar New Year this year to teach newly registered aspiring martial artists;
Alternatively, in the first two or three months, teachers could be recruited to teach martial arts in junior and senior high schools.
The third type is social recruitment.
Businesses or individuals can recruit martial artists through the Martial Arts Association.
Whether you need martial artists to do your work or act as your bodyguards, that's fine with you, as long as someone is willing to take the job.
Then the Martial Arts Association will act as an intermediary, both acting as a guarantor and taking a portion of the profits.
"Hmm, this is the first time I've seen this kind of mission either. How come there are suddenly so many missions like this?" someone next to me asked in confusion.
"This is quite different from the others on the ground," someone explained.
"Those on the ground are easily visible and are also monitored."
"But what's inside the underground passages can only be found by searching bit by bit."
"But the underground passages Linhai are quite complex, not only leading out of the city, but also winding and turning within the city itself."
"In this situation, it would be somewhat dangerous to send personnel from the Calamity Beast emergency department to investigate."
"Sending members of the Supervision Bureau to investigate would be a waste of time, especially since it's a Calamity Beast of unknown rank."
"So that's why it was placed here?" the other person chimed in.
"Yes, that's right." The man nodded.
"That makes some sense!" The person who asked the question nodded in agreement, then exclaimed:
"But the rewards for this kind of mission are quite generous!"
"It's just to confirm a trace."
"Assuming Third Tier Calamity Beast and a team of five."
"Each person will receive 300 points, enough to exchange for a D-Class combat skill."
"Ugh, what's the use of those points? It'd be better to sell them to the hunting team. A piece of information about a Third Tier Calamity Beast should fetch several hundred thousand..."
The crowd was buzzing with discussion.
Lin Xiaoyu listened quietly from the side.
While money is certainly valuable, points are equally important.
After all, points can be used at the Martial Arts Association to exchange for many things that money can't buy, such as combat skills, materials, medicines, and so on.
but...
Thinking of her wallet, Lin Xiaoyu silently lowered her head.
If she were allowed to do it, she would probably sell them to help ease her already thinned wallet.
"Hey, Xiaoyu!" Suddenly, a tall, somewhat dark-skinned woman walked over from the side.
" Sister Mei!" Lin Xiaoyu greeted the newcomer with a smile.
"Hmm, did you also hear the news and come here specifically to see this mission?" Mei Duo asked with a smile, glancing at the large screen hanging on the wall.
"No, I just happened to run into her," Lin Xiaoyu said with a smile.
Seeing this, Mei Duo felt a little regretful, but still nodded and asked:
"So, as I asked you before, are you interested in joining our Thorn Squad?"
There are currently more than 30 hunting teams in Linhai City.
However, the entire Linhai Martial Arts Association only has a dozen or so Second Tier martial artists and a little over a hundred First Tier martial artists.
Even though each hunting party has five people, they can still manage to gather enough.
However, in reality, a significant portion of these people did not participate in the hunting teams.
After all, although the chance of dying is very low, you will still die eventually.
In addition, having lived in a peaceful era for so long, many people are actually not good at fighting.
It would be better if you let them train and then join the Martial Arts Association.
But if you actually asked them to fight, a significant portion of them wouldn't dare.
It's not that they definitely won't dare to in the future, but without taking the first step, a considerable number of them won't dare to take it.
Despite this, they continued to be courted by the members of the hunting teams.
After all, manpower is really scarce.
Many teams consist of only four people, or even just three.
"Forget it, I can't fight either." Lin Xiaoyu subconsciously refused.
She had considered joining, but having never fought before, she was afraid she would be a burden to the opposing team.
"It's alright. Nobody is born knowing how to fight. Everyone learns little by little. I didn't know how at first either, but now I'm leading the team just fine, aren't I?" Mei Duo said with a smile.
" Sister Mei, you may not have been born with a natural talent for fighting, but I feel that you have a strong natural talent for combat!" Lin Xiaoyu said with a smile.
"Haha, if that's the case, that would be great!" Mei Duo laughed heartily.
Lin Xiaoyu glanced at the task on the big screen, then turned back and asked:
" Sister Mei, are you also interested in taking on this mission?"
"Yes, since the association has issued a statement, it means there's a high probability that there are Calamity Beast Calamity Beast the underground passage, or at least that they've appeared there before." Mei Duo nodded.
"In that case, searching inside the underground passages is at least more efficient than just wandering around the streets."
Lin Xiaoyu thought for a moment, then nodded.
"But Sister Mei, you still need to be careful. It would be dangerous if you encountered a Third Tier Calamity Beast. In the underground passage, you might not be able to drive like you can on the surface."
"Yes, I understand." Mei Duo nodded, glanced at the people around her, then leaned down towards Lin Xiaoyu and whispered:
"Actually, I've been secretly preparing some explosives all along."
"I'll carry it with me, so even if I encounter Tier 3 opponent that I can't defeat, I can still unleash it to blast it."
"They might not kill us, but they can buy us some time to escape."
