Ch. 21The Hershel family

Lynn’s group reached Hershel Greene’s farm and negotiated permission to camp outside the fence for three days while they treated the wounded and repaired their vehicle. As the group established camp under strict orders, Lynn noticed someone watching from the barn and a system quest to save Hershel’s family.

  • Lynn introduced himself to Hershel Greene and explained that his group had escaped Atlanta and needed supplies, medical care, and time to repair their vehicle.
  • Hershel allowed the group to camp outside the fence for three days, forbidding them from entering the farm or approaching its water source.
  • Hershel ordered Jimmy and Otis to bring hay and Patricia to leave water by the fence, then returned to the farmhouse with Maggie and Beth.
  • Lynn assigned the group camp duties, including setting a watch, clearing the area, treating Rick’s wound, and inspecting the RV.
  • Lynn noticed a possible lens glinting from a second-floor barn window, received a system notification that the quest to save Hershel’s family was in progress, and watched over the covered rocket launcher in camp.

Ch. 22High fever and the iron curtain

Lynn’s group searched Hershel’s farm for medicine after Sophia developed a dangerous fever, but Hershel had none to spare and pointed them toward a walker-infested pharmacy in Greenville. Lynn led a team there while Rick stayed behind to guard the camp, and The Jackal watched the barn from the woods.

  • Min-seon told Lynn that Sophia had a high fever and that the group had lost its children’s medicine and antibiotics.
  • Hershel and Maggie searched their medical supplies but could offer only a few uncertain veterinary antibiotics, then told Lynn about Old Barton’s Pharmacy in Greenville.
  • Lynn ordered Davis, Shane, Daryl, Merle, Glenn, and Maggie to travel to Greenville for medicine, while Rick stayed to guard the camp.
  • Lori quietly told Glenn that she was pregnant, and Lynn recognized the news but did not reveal it.
  • Lynn’s team left the farm on foot for Greenville as The Jackal watched the barn through a scope from the woods.

Ch. 23Echoes of the Town

Lynn’s squad entered Greenville and split up to draw walkers away from Barton’s Pharmacy while Glenn and Maggie searched for supplies. After the quarry noise stopped, walkers converged on the group as they tried to retreat west.

  • Lynn sent Daryl and Merle to lure walkers toward the eastern quarry with a motorcycle and banging cans.
  • Lynn and Davis cleared a path to the pharmacy, then signaled Maggie and Glenn to enter and search for supplies.
  • Glenn found children’s medicine and antibiotics, then secretly packed a pregnancy test after thinking of Lori and Rick.
  • Lynn gave the retreat signal, and Maggie and Glenn escaped through the pharmacy’s back door as Daryl and Merle stopped making noise.
  • Walkers turned toward the group’s retreat and surged into the street, surrounding them.

Ch. 24Escape under fire

Lynn's group escaped the zombie horde with the medicine they had sought and started back toward Hershel's Farm. Meanwhile, Tony and Dave watched them leave and plotted to attack the farm, intending to exploit the sick child's vulnerability.

  • Lynn, Davis, Maggie, and Glenn fought through the returning walkers as fires set by Merle drew part of the horde away.
  • Daryl arrived on his motorcycle, Glenn rode with him, and the group escaped into the woods with the medicine and other supplies.
  • Lynn confirmed they had the medicine needed for Sophia and ordered the group to rest briefly before returning to the farm.
  • Tony and Dave observed Lynn's group from a motel and suspected they were carrying an RPG and Scarface's stolen goods.
  • Dave ordered his men to watch Hershel's Farm and find the sick child's location so they could attack when the group's guard dropped.

Ch. 25Dinner and Gunfire at the Barn

At dinner on Greene Farm, Glenn revealed that Hershel had locked walkers in the barn, shattering the fragile peace between the two groups. Hershel drove Lynn’s group off the farm, and Shane armed himself with an RPG and aimed toward the barn.

  • Hershel invited Lynn’s group to dinner after Sophia’s fever subsided.
  • At Lynn’s prompting, Glenn told the table that he and Maggie had seen walkers locked inside the barn.
  • Hershel defended the walkers as sick family and neighbors who could still be cured, but their noises from inside the barn intensified the confrontation.
  • Hershel ordered Lynn’s group off the farm, and they withdrew to their camp outside the fence.
  • Shane opened a crate in the RV, took an RPG launcher, and aimed toward the barn as a shotgun was chambered in the darkness.

Ch. 26Undercurrents at Gunpoint

A standoff over whether to destroy Hershel’s barn ended when Lynn ordered the camp to stand down and said he would handle it. After the camp settled, the Jackal reported an armed hostile group watching the farm, and Lynn began forming a plan.

  • Shane aimed an RPG at the barn, but Rick, Andrea, and others opposed blowing it up because it would endanger the group and draw walkers.
  • Lynn stopped the argument, ordered everyone to rest or take watch, and told Rick he would deal with the barn.
  • Shane put away the launcher and left for the other side of camp after Lynn warned him not to cause trouble.
  • After night fell, the Jackal informed Lynn that eight to ten armed people had been monitoring the farm and intended to loot it and seize people and weapons.
  • Lynn recognized the group as likely connected to the hostile people from the original story and began forming a plan.

Ch. 27A Death Trap and Live Bait

Lynn used Merle as bait to provoke the bandits into attacking Greene Farm before dawn. The bandits charged toward the farm, and Lynn ordered The Jackal to prepare to target their leaders.

  • Lynn learned that eight to ten bandits planned to attack the farm and ordered The Jackal to keep watching them.
  • Lynn told Merle to provoke the bandits, lead them toward the farm, and make sure Hershel's family stayed safe.
  • Merle taunted the bandits from near the oak grove and drew them into a furious pursuit.
  • Tony, Dave, and the other bandits chased Merle toward Greene Farm in their modified pickup.
  • Maggie recognized the pursuers as they approached the farm, and Lynn told The Jackal to lock onto their leaders and await his signal.

Ch. 28The barn of blood and fire

The bandits rammed Hershel’s barn, releasing the walkers inside and throwing the farm into chaos as Lynn’s camp fought to hold them back. Lynn’s team helped rescue Hershel’s family from the walkers, while the fleeing bandits remained under attack and the mission entered its bloodiest phase.

  • Merle lured the bandits into ramming the barn, breaking open the doors and releasing Hershel’s family, now walkers.
  • Lynn ordered his team to defend the camp, suppress the barn entrance, and prepare the heavy machine gun to protect the main house.
  • Walkers attacked Hershel’s family on the porch, and Lynn ordered T-Dog to use the M2 to tear apart the walkers beneath the steps.
  • The modified pickup broke free from the barn doorway, and the Jackal shot Tony as he cursed Lynn’s camp.
  • The Jackal took aim at Dave while Lynn watched the horde overwhelm the farm and the mission to save Hershel’s family continued.

Ch. 29Leaving the farm

After the farm was overrun and destroyed, Lynn organized the cleanup, gathered supplies, and persuaded Hershel and his daughters to leave with the survivors. The group departed for Lynn's zoo base, while Lynn received the rewards for completing his quest to save Hershel's family.

  • The Jackal killed Dave, and Lynn ordered the survivors to finish off the remaining walkers and search the vehicles and house for supplies.
  • Lynn and Rick urged Hershel, Maggie, and Beth to leave the ruined farm; Maggie and Beth persuaded Hershel to go with them.
  • The survivors loaded supplies and wounded passengers into the Jeep, pickup, RV, and Daryl's motorcycle.
  • Lynn received 500 Survival Points, ammunition, and a Character Creation Privilege for completing the quest to save Hershel's family.
  • Lynn ordered the convoy to head for the zoo base, and the group drove away from the farm.

Ch. 30A new companion

Lynn used his character-creation privilege to create Zhao Jinghong, a skilled martial artist, and the convoy returned to the zoo base. Zhao Jinghong greeted Lynn at the east gate, leaving the survivors stunned by his new companion.

  • Lynn reviewed three martial-arts character archetypes and selected Jing Hong for her spear skills and stability.
  • The system created Zhao Jinghong and placed her at the zoo base’s southeastern watchtower to oversee security.
  • Lynn’s convoy passed the abandoned gas station and reached the zoo wall, with the survivors relieved to be home.
  • At the east gate, Shane spotted a spear-wielding woman waiting in the watchtower’s shadow and wondered who she was.
  • Zhao Jinghong stepped into view, greeted Lynn, and was revealed as his second subordinate.

Ch. 31Return to Base

Lynn brought Rick’s group back to the Atlanta Zoo base, assigned lodging and medical care, and imposed the base’s rules on Shane. The survivor-integration quest was completed, and Lynn began planning how to secure and organize the growing base.

  • Lynn returned to the zoo base with Rick, Hershel’s family, and the other survivors, then ordered Old Joey to unload supplies and settle everyone.
  • Lynn assigned Min-seon to treat the wounded, Davis to raise the defenses to wartime alert, and Zhao Jinghong to coordinate patrols and inspect weak points along the walls.
  • Shane challenged Lynn over the base’s weapons rules, but Lynn ordered him to register his shotgun and report for guard duties; Shane reluctantly handed over the gun.
  • The system declared the Survivor Integration quest complete and awarded Lynn 3,200 Survival Points and permission to create a team.
  • Lynn told Zhao Jinghong to focus on the southeast wall and began planning a meeting to establish rules and integrate the survivors.

Ch. 32Lynn's Foundation

Lynn reviewed the zoo base’s population, supplies, defenses, and nearby dangers with Old Joey. With raiders nearby and a large group of walkers gathering, Lynn planned to strengthen the base and begin at a general meeting the next morning.

  • Old Joey reported that the base had grown to thirty-one people, with food for about twenty days and serious shortages of medicine.
  • Old Joey described the improved walls, dormitories, medical station, warehouse, and newly planted field.
  • Old Joey told Lynn about smoke, armed vehicle tracks, and unidentified armed figures seen near the base.
  • Old Joey warned that walkers in the northern woods had become more active and seemed to be moving toward the base.
  • Lynn thanked Old Joey, assessed the threats and resources, and planned to address the base’s needs at a meeting the next morning.

Ch. 33Settling on a Development Plan

Lynn used the system to obtain supplies and drafted a development plan to address the zoo base’s shortages, defenses, and internal organization. At dawn, he summoned everyone to a general meeting to begin putting the plan into action.

  • Lynn reviewed the base’s food, medicine, and security problems, then spent survival points on medical supplies, rations, water filters, and other equipment.
  • Lynn wrote a plan covering food production and scavenging, medicine, surveillance, fortifications, combat training, work assignments, and base rules.
  • Lynn finished the outline and prepared to announce duties and explain the base’s situation at a general meeting.
  • Lynn struck a food can with an iron rod and called everyone to assemble in the central square in fifteen minutes.
  • Min-seon, Rick, Hershel, Carol, Shane, Daryl, Merle, Glenn, T-Dog, Andrea, Dale, and the others woke or emerged from their quarters as the new day began.

Ch. 34The cornerstone of order

Lynn addressed the Atlanta Zoo base, revealing its shortages and imposing wartime control, strict rules, and work assignments. After the meeting, the survivors began their duties while Shane watched Lynn with resentment.

  • Lynn assembled the survivors and declared that he was in charge of the Atlanta Zoo base and that they had to work together to survive.
  • Old Joey reported that the base had nineteen days of food and no antibiotics, while Min-seon warned that infections could be fatal.
  • Lynn assigned the survivors to combat, scavenging, farming, and medical teams, and established strict rules for resources, obedience, security, and contributions.
  • The crowd dispersed to begin their assignments, and Shane watched Lori leave before walking toward Davis with a sullen expression.

Ch. 35Dark currents, sudden thunder

Lynn organized the zoo base’s defenses when a massive walker herd advanced from the northern woods and hostile vehicles appeared on the southwestern highway. With the base facing its deadliest test, Lynn ordered everyone to prepare for the attack and began team summoning.

  • Lynn gave Old Joey trap blueprints and a combat manual, while Davis assigned patrols and wall repairs to the combat team.
  • Min-seon organized medical supplies and instructed Lori and Beth, while Maggie, Carol, and Dale cared for Hershel and Sophia.
  • Shane provoked Zhao Jinghong over her spear, but a huge walker herd’s howls abruptly halted the brewing conflict.
  • Lynn ordered the combat team onto the walls, noncombatants into shelter, and Davis to close the gate as the base prepared for the herd.
  • The Jackal reported over three hundred walkers approaching from the north, while Davis spotted hostile modified vehicles watching from the southwestern highway.
  • Lynn ordered the defenders to conserve ammunition, rely on traps and cold weapons, and prepare Zhao Jinghong’s spear for battle.

Ch. 36The Ash Squad

Lynn used a Team Creation Authorization to bring the Ash squad, a seven-member mercenary team from his past, to the base. After the squad arrived injured but carrying supplies, Lynn verified Anvil’s identity and let them through, while Shane remained suspicious and angry.

  • Lynn used the authorization to generate the Ash squad and assigned Wraith a compendium on simple traps and early-warning devices.
  • The squad’s vehicles arrived at the base’s southwestern gate, triggering an alarm and putting the residents on combat alert.
  • Anvil identified the group as Lynn’s hired security team and presented a metal tag, but Shane called them impostors and urged the defenders to shoot.
  • Lynn recognized Anvil, confirmed the squad’s identity, and ordered Davis to open the gate.
  • The system confirmed the Ash squad’s absolute loyalty to Lynn and placed their supplies in their vehicles.
  • Anvil reported that the mission was partially completed and that one member was missing; Lynn thanked him and asked to see what they had brought back.

Ch. 37Gifts of Iron and Fire

Ash squad returned to the zoo base with antibiotics, medical supplies, ammunition, and electronic components after losing Fuse and failing to find iridium. Wraith's bloodstained map and Anvil's report confirmed that professional outsiders were watching the base, while Shane's accusations against the squad deepened the internal conflict.

  • Lynn ordered the base's residents to stand down and had Anvil report Ash squad's losses, mission results, cargo, and injuries.
  • Anvil reported that Fuse had died covering the convoy, that Ash had recovered antibiotics and other supplies, and that the iridium objective had failed.
  • Lynn sent Min-seon and Stitch to treat the wounded, while Wraith gave him a map marking the zoo as a watched target and Anvil reported unidentified vehicles nearby.
  • Shane accused Lynn of hiding mercenaries and letting dangerous strangers into the base, but Lynn defended Ash and threatened anyone who broke the rules or stirred up trouble.
  • Lynn ordered Davis to settle Ash squad in and told Anvil to provide a detailed operational report after resting; Lynn considered that Shane might no longer be worth keeping around.

Ch. 38The Vulture's Claw Marks

Lynn learned that Vulture's Claw was probing the base for a weak point and ordered heightened defenses while Ash prepared to reconnoiter the bandits' warehouse hideout. The chapter ended with Anvil, Wraith, and Peregrine infiltrating the warehouses as Lynn watched the threatened perimeter.

  • Min-seon secured the antibiotics from the Ash squad's supplies, while Wrench began repairing the off-road vehicle with newly acquired parts.
  • Lynn and his advisers studied the bloodstained map and concluded that Vulture's Claw was searching for a way into the base, possibly through underground structures near the southeast wall.
  • Lynn ordered Wraith to set silent traps, Ash to reconnoiter the warehouse district, Davis to strengthen defenses and train fighters, and Old Joey to reinforce the southeast wall.
  • Scar told Probe to investigate the ground beneath the southeast wall and promised Vulture's Claw a raid once they found an opening.
  • Anvil, Wraith, and Peregrine left through a concealed exit to scout Vulture's Claw's hideout while Lynn watched the perimeter.

Ch. 39Blood claws and silencers

Lynn ordered Ash to destroy Vulture's Claw's combat strength and capture or kill its leader, Scar, before the faction threatened the zoo base. Probe was caught while digging near the perimeter wall, and he revealed what he knew as Ash prepared to strike.

  • Anvil, Peregrine, and Wraith reported Vulture's Claw's numbers, weapons, defenses, and routines to Lynn.
  • Lynn assigned Anvil to lead a covert mission to destroy the M2 heavy machine gun and capture or kill Scar, and the system issued a 72-hour quest.
  • Lynn gave Ash twelve hours to rest and prepare before moving out.
  • Probe was caught digging near the southeastern perimeter wall and knocked unconscious by Davis.
  • Anvil, Wraith, Peregrine, Bulwark, and Det questioned Probe, who readily confirmed their intelligence.

Ch. 40Dark Flames Burn the Claw

Ash's squad infiltrated the Vulture's Claw warehouse, destroyed its heavy machine gun, and captured Scar and Probe. The team returned to base with the threat largely eliminated, while Lynn prepared for the next challenge.

  • Anvil, Wraith, Det, Bulwark, and Peregrine prepared for the raid, then six figures slipped out of the base after nightfall.
  • Wraith silently killed the warehouse sentries as Peregrine took a covered firing position and Anvil planted explosives beneath the shelving holding the M2.
  • Anvil detonated the explosives, destroying the M2, while Wraith threw Molotov cocktails into the gathered bandits and Anvil attacked through the chaos.
  • Peregrine shot Probe in the knee and wounded Scar's wrist, and Wraith and Anvil subdued and captured both men.
  • Ash's squad withdrew from the burning warehouse and returned to base with Scar, Probe, and intelligence taken from Scar.
  • Lynn saw the prisoners and the destroyed M2 component, and the system awarded the mission rewards.
