Chapter 7
Sister Wu stared at her with wide eyes, apparently never having imagined that Ye Mo would actually do such a thing.
Ye Mo smiled at her and offered an utterly insincere apology. "Sorry, Sister Wu. I didn't do it on purpose... I told you, when I get startled, I'm prone to stress responses."
Sister Wu's chest heaved violently with anger, and she couldn't help saying, "...You-you clearly did that on purpose!"
"Don't slander me!" Ye Mo looked innocent. "I already told you, I'm prone to stress responses... Just like you, Sister Wu, I didn't do it on purpose."
Ruan Xianyue frowned. "Why do you have such a temper, child? Sister Wu already said she didn't do it on purpose."
Sister Wu's head and face were drenched, leaving her a bedraggled mess. Hearing Ruan Xianyue speak up for her, she couldn't help looking over gratefully.
At Ruan Xianyue's words, however, Ye Mo raised her brows slightly and asked, "You believe her just because she says she didn't do it on purpose?"
"Madam!" Sister Wu looked pitifully at Ruan Xianyue. "I've worked in this household for so many years. You know what kind of person I am. I really didn't do it on purpose!"
At this, the slight hesitation Ye Mo's words had stirred in Ruan Xianyue immediately gave way to conviction. "I know Sister Wu's character very well. Ye Mo, you must have misunderstood her. She definitely didn't do it on purpose."
Ye Mo smiled and reached out to touch the sofa where the entire cup of water had just spilled. "When you say she didn't do it on purpose, do you mean she didn't deliberately splash water on me, or that she didn't deliberately bring me a cup of scalding water to drink in the middle of summer?"
Ye Mo's words revealed something, and Ye Zhipeng's expression changed. He reached out to touch the wet spot on the sofa and felt the heat that had yet to dissipate.
"Sister Wu!" He immediately glared at her in fury.
Sister Wu hurriedly explained, "I really didn't do it on purpose. I poured Miss Ye black tea, which has to be brewed with boiling water. That's why the cup was so hot... I truly had no intention of hurting anyone! Besides, Miss Ye and I have no ties or grudges. Why would I deliberately splash scalding water on her? Madam..."
She looked imploringly at Ruan Xianyue for help. "Madam, please believe me!"
Ruan Xianyue looked hesitantly at Ye Zhipeng. "...A-Quan, perhaps it really was an accident?"
Ye Zhipeng said gravely, "A-Yue!"
[I know why Sister Wu wanted to hurt you, Host!] 888 said loudly in anger.
Hearing this, Ye Mo raised her brows, an intrigued look appearing on her face.
"Perhaps I know why Sister Wu is targeting me..." she said with a smile, instantly drawing everyone's attention.
Completely at ease, Ye Mo sat back down on the sofa. Under everyone's gazes, she said slowly and solemnly, "Actually, I have an ability. I can tell fortunes!"
The others: "..."
"Stop joking!" Ye Miao snapped.
Ye Mo said, "I'm not making things up... Don't dismiss what I say just yet. Why not hear the results of my divination first?"
Everyone: "..."
"Go ahead!" In the end, Ye Zhipeng made the call.
Ye Mo smiled, her gaze settling on Sister Wu, whose expression flickered between shock and doubt.
[This Sister Wu is very close to Ye Baozhu. She bullied you, Host, mainly to vent Ye Baozhu's anger for her...]
"You're very close to Ye Baozhu, Sister Wu," Ye Mo said with a smile, recounting everything 888 had said. "Ye Baozhu fell ill because I appeared, so you wanted to vent her anger for her!"
Ye Zhipeng looked at Sister Wu. "Sister Wu, is that really why?"
There wasn't a trace of panic on Sister Wu's face. She said calmly, "Sir, do you really believe Miss Ye's so-called fortune-telling?"
She gave a derisive laugh. "What day and age is this? Even my elderly mother in the countryside doesn't believe in divine fortune-telling anymore, yet Miss Ye is using it here to play to the crowd!"
There was a measure of disdain in her tone.
"You!" Shen Yan looked angry and was about to say something, but Ye Mo stopped him.
Ye Mo looked at Sister Wu with a half-smile. "...Sister Wu, I haven't finished yet. Wanting to vent Ye Baozhu's anger is indeed one reason, but that's only the reason on the surface. The real reason..."
She stared intently at Sister Wu, her smile widening as she enunciated each word. "The real reason is that you like my dad!"
"...Am I right?"
"..."
To everyone present, what Ye Mo had just said could only be described as a revelation that shattered the heavens and split the rocks, something utterly shocking.
For a moment, even Ye Zhipeng's expression went awry.
"You're talking nonsense!" Sister Wu denied reflexively. "You're spouting nonsense!"
Ye Zhipeng recovered, looking as though he'd had a fright, and said with considerable difficulty, "Ye Mo, have you gotten something wrong? Sister Wu..."
He paused before continuing with some effort, "How could Sister Wu possibly like me?"
Ruan Xianyue, meanwhile, looked annoyed. "Child, how can you talk such nonsense? Sister Wu has been with our family for so many years. How could she possibly have any improper designs on your father?"
"If she really did," Ruan Xianyue paused, "how could I possibly have failed to notice?"
Ye Mo looked at her silently, then said hesitantly, "Maybe you're just rather stupid?"
Ruan Xianyue stared at her with wide eyes. "You're calling me stupid?"
Ye Mo hurriedly said, "I'm really not making things up. There's proof!"
888: [The proof is...]
"The proof is inside Dad's suits!" Ye Mo said earnestly.
Seeing the obvious panic appear on Sister Wu's face, Ye Mo chuckled. "I was wondering why you targeted me the moment I arrived. So you wanted to become the lady of this house?"
Ye Zhipeng couldn't help asking, "What is this proof you're talking about? What does it have to do with my suits?"
"Oh, that." Ye Mo looked at her bargain-bin dad with a touch of pity. "Dad, ninety-nine peach blossom talismans have been sewn into every one of your suits..."
She paused here, afraid Ye Zhipeng might not understand, and added, "The so-called peach blossom talismans that can make one person fall in love with another. And they were drawn with Sister Wu's own blood!"
"Sister Wu believes that as long as you wear these clothes with ninety-nine peach blossom talismans sewn into them, you'll definitely fall in love with her one day..."
Even Ye Mo couldn't help finding Sister Wu rather bizarre as she said this, let alone Ye Zhipeng, the person involved.
Looking at Sister Wu again, the calm expression on her face had long since vanished, replaced by pallor and panic. All she could do was deny it feebly. "You're talking nonsense. You're making it up!"
She abruptly turned to Ye Zhipeng. "Sir, believe me! I did no such thing."
"Whether I'm talking nonsense or not, won't we know once someone brings down my dad's suits and checks?" Ye Mo said coolly.
"Shut up!" Sister Wu suddenly shouted at her. "You're the one spouting all this nonsense! I'll tear your mouth apart!"
With that, she actually lunged straight at Ye Mo's face, clawing at her. No matter how one looked at it, the movement carried a measure of humiliation turned to rage.
Then the vicious-looking Sister Wu was sent flying several meters by a kick from Ye Mo.
Her foot still extended, Ye Mo patted her chest. "That scared me to death!"
Ye Miao, who had been about to rush forward to save her, watched this scene with a head full of question marks: ???
Who was scaring whom here?
Ye Zhipeng had also been startled. Once he recovered, he realized there was something off about Sister Wu's reaction, too. A suspicion that made his scalp prickle involuntarily rose in his mind-could everything Ye Mo had said actually be true?
For a moment, his face turned from ashen to green, then from green to ashen.
"Ye Miao!" Ye Zhipeng finally called out. His gaze remained fixed on Sister Wu as he said, "Go upstairs and bring down a few of my suits. I want to see whether there really are any peach blossom talismans inside!"
At these words, Sister Wu, who had been crying out in pain, suddenly turned ashen, her expression one of utter panic.
Seeing her reaction,
Ye Zhipeng felt his heart plunge straight down. He was already all but certain that what Ye Mo had said was true.
