Background / History

Xu Changsheng’s Imprisonment

Qi Zhaoyue’s residence initially sheltered Xu Changsheng after his arrival in the White Jade World. He worked as a stable servant and learned the basic Qi Guiding Instruction. After he awakened the Divine Yang Sacred Physique, Ye Luoxue reported his unusual condition to Qi Zhaoyue 1 7.

Qi Zhaoyue forced herself on Xu Changsheng, publicly announced that he had become her deathsworn, and claimed that she would train him in secret. In reality, she imprisoned him in the Lotus Grotto-Heaven and used him as a cultivation furnace for ten years. Her cultivation rose rapidly, while the repeated depletion of his essence left him in the First Realm 1.

The two entered a Shared Life and Death Pact, linking their survival. Qi Zhaoyue accommodated his demands inside the grotto-heaven to keep him from despairing and killing himself, but refused to restore his freedom 1 6.

Founding the Divine Maiden Sect

Upon reaching the Eleventh Realm, Qi Zhaoyue qualified for the imperial family’s right to establish an independent residence and sect. She founded the Divine Maiden Sect to build a faction for her bid to become Great Yu’s first female emperor. Her ambitions also stemmed from her pursuit of immortality and the blood debt surrounding her mother’s death 4 5.

She first entrusted Ye Luoxue with the secret of Xu Changsheng’s physique, then directed her to organize recruitment. The sect accepted only women but welcomed applicants regardless of lineage, background, cultivation tradition, or race 5 13 14.

At the founding ceremony, Qi Zhaoyue watched from a nearby peak to identify visitors’ motives. She knowingly retained useful infiltrators but ordered eight less valuable candidates executed as a warning to the powers targeting her sect 22 25.

She accepted the orphan Fanyin as her first personal disciple and expelled applicants who mocked the girl’s poverty and lack of lineage. Zhu Xiaoliang received the sect’s first allotted place in the Lotus Grotto-Heaven, with a promised breakthrough to the Tenth Realm within three months 23 26.

Expanding Her Faction

Qi Zhaoyue intended to publicize Zhu Xiaoliang’s accelerated cultivation as proof of the sect’s opportunities. She offered Meng Weiyi and Xu Qingci similar prospects, promising that they could reach the Celestial Person Realm within ten to twenty years. Access depended on both aptitude and appearance, while the actual cultivation method remained secret 35 36.

Her strategy deliberately turned attempted infiltration into recruitment: she believed talented female spies would find the prospect of immortality through Xu Changsheng’s physique too valuable to abandon 13.

Destruction of the Nether Night Sect

Qi Zhaoyue attacked the Holy Sect of the Nether Night at Mount Mangdang, cleaving a third of Youye Plateau away with a sword strike. She seized Myriad Karma Dao-Severing, the third of Great Yu’s ten renowned sabers 41.

When an elder invoked the sect’s allegiance to Princess Consort Jing, Qi Zhaoyue declared that an existing grudge had to be eliminated at its roots and beheaded him. Pei Ying interpreted the attack as a public demonstration of Qi Zhaoyue’s true strength 41.

Qi Zhaoyue subsequently delivered the saber to Xu Changsheng, fulfilling his request for a weapon to practice with inside the grotto-heaven 29 47 48.

Appearance

  • Features: Long, ink-black hair, fair skin, red lips, and bright eyes frequently described as cold or frostlike 1 7.
  • Bearing: Combines imperial dignity with an aloof, heroic presence; observers repeatedly compare her to an untouchable immortal maiden 7 22.
  • Clothing: Commonly wears red or red-and-gold court gowns, including phoenix-patterned robes. She also appears in black dresses and a moon-white gown 7 18 35 41.
  • Accessories: Golden hairpins, dangling earrings, golden high heels, and red-painted nails 8 28 48.
  • Cultivation phenomenon: Pure white lotuses bloom beneath her feet following her Celestial Person breakthrough 1.

Personality

Qi Zhaoyue is unwavering in her pursuit of immortality. She openly declares that anyone obstructing her eternal life will become her mortal enemy. Xu Changsheng considers her willingness to stake everything—including her own life—one of her most frightening qualities 1 32.

Patient and secretive, she concealed her supreme physique for twenty-eight years, even from Xu Changsheng. She prefers observing rivals from the shadows and evaluates infiltrators according to their usefulness rather than simply rejecting them 8 22 25.

Her ruthlessness coexists with selective tenderness. She wants Qi Lanxing to live happily without bearing their family’s burdens, sympathizes with Zhu Xiaoliang’s wish to save her mother, and rejects contempt toward people of humble birth 4 23 26 30.

She acknowledges that she has wronged Xu Changsheng and develops genuine affection for him, but does not allow remorse to overturn her plans. Her willingness to apologize and indulge him exists alongside her continued refusal to release him 1 17 48.

Abilities & Skills

Sun and Moon Shining Together Innate Dao Physique

An SSS-rank physique that Qi Zhaoyue kept hidden despite the public recognition of her sword talent 7 8.

  • Remains incompletely awakened; Xu Changsheng’s system records 32% awakening 17.
  • Qi Zhaoyue manifests a golden sun in her left palm and a silver moon in her right, displaying contrasting scorching and cool powers 5.
  • Its full capabilities have not been explained in the provided chapters 8 27.

Swordsmanship

Qi Zhaoyue possesses an SS-rank Lotus Sword Heart and B-rank Swordsmanship Mastery in Xu Changsheng’s talent panel 7.

  • Wields the White Lotus Heavenly Heart, one of Great Yu’s ten famed swords 4.
  • Her breakthrough releases sword pressure across the imperial capital 3.
  • Cleaves away a third of Youye Plateau with one strike and kills the Nether Night Sect’s elder with a brief flash of sword light 41.

Phoenix Bone and Imperial Qi

Two additional A-rank talents appear in her talent panel 7.

  • Phoenix Bone: A women-only talent that awakens a treasure bone containing a treasure art. Its description identifies it as an inferior variant of the supreme bone with considerable potential; Qi Zhaoyue’s specific treasure art is not disclosed 18.
  • Imperial Qi: Confirmed as a talent, but its effects are not described 7.
  • Xu Changsheng copies her Phoenix Bone; his system converts it into the male counterpart, Dragon Bone. The resulting Dragon Proliferation Power belongs to him, not Qi Zhaoyue 18.

Lotus Grotto-Heaven

Qi Zhaoyue cultivated an independent inner world approximately the size of a city 7 27.

  • Opens its entrance through a silver-white gateway within a phantom white lotus 5 6.
  • Grants others access through lotus marks, including Ye Luoxue and Zhu Xiaoliang 13 30.
  • Uses it to conceal Xu Changsheng and conduct the sect’s secret cultivation program 1 23.
  • Cannot automatically observe everything inside from outside its world barrier; ownership gives her access, not omniscient surveillance 7.

Essence Refinement and Artifact Refining

  • Essence refinement: Seals and refines Divine Yang Sacred Physique origin essence to increase and consolidate cultivation. She instructs Ye Luoxue to refine each portion before returning, limiting her visits to once every seven days 13.
  • Advancement limitation: Recognizes that reaching the Twelfth Realm requires severing her impure and mixed Dao, rather than merely accumulating more power 4.
  • Artifact refining: Helps create a Law Artifact for Xu Changsheng that he can activate remotely through Divine Sense 36 48.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • White Lotus Heavenly Heart — Her personal silver longsword, with a jade-white blade and lotus ornamentation; one of Great Yu’s ten famed swords 4 13.
  • Myriad Karma Dao-Severing — A Tang-style straight saber seized from the Nether Night Sect and given to Xu Changsheng, who binds it with his blood 41 47 48.
  • Pei Ying’s Heavenly Star Seed — Retained because Qi Zhaoyue considers it dangerous. Unknown to her, Qi Lanxing creates a bloodline-bound copy 46.

Relationships

  • Xu Changsheng — Her captive cultivation partner and intended future spouse. Their lives are linked by the Shared Life and Death Pact. She promises to free him upon reaching the Fourteenth Realm, marry him, and make him Great Yu’s first male empress; these remain future intentions 6 48.
  • Qi Lanxing — Younger sister and fellow disciple of Bai Yuqiong. Qi Zhaoyue is protective of her and initially withholds the cultivation secret, while Lanxing seeks strength to avenge their mother 4 15 46.
  • Ye Luoxue — Personal guard and trusted organizer of the Divine Maiden Sect. Qi Zhaoyue saved her from dying on a snowy night more than ten years earlier; their relationship later becomes less formal and includes mutual teasing 4 13 47.
  • Bai Yuqiong — Master and leader of the Daoist Earth Sect. She warns Qi Zhaoyue about Zhu Xiaoliang and provides powerful backing for her position 15 16 35.
  • Bai Yuer — Martial aunt, leader of the Daoist Heaven Sect, and Bai Yuqiong’s sister. Her decision to send Zhu Xiaoliang is widely interpreted as support for Qi Zhaoyue’s imperial ambitions 16 23.
  • Zhu Xiaoliang — Junior martial sister and Divine Maiden Sect guest elder. Qi Zhaoyue recognizes her investigative purpose but offers her cultivation assistance, partly out of sympathy for her family circumstances 22 23 30 34.
  • Fanyin — First personal disciple, accepted despite being an orphan without cultivation. Qi Zhaoyue plans to establish her foundations before giving her access to the sect’s special cultivation opportunity 26 36.
  • Meng Weiyi and Xu Qingci — Guest elders whom she seeks to cultivate into future supporters 34 35.
  • Qi Tianqi — Father and emperor of Great Yu. His decree authorizes her independent sect, while she openly rejects the tradition that excludes women from imperial rule 4 5.
  • Jiang Tianqi — Her consort, whom she does not permit to touch her 1.
  • Pei Ying — Princess Consort Jing, whose subordinate Nether Night Sect Qi Zhaoyue destroys. Pei Ying later approaches Qi Lanxing with an offer to uncover her sister’s cultivation secret 41 44.
