Chapter 11
Huo Xiuzhu had also become a celebrity at their school.
Could Wen Chuxue have deliberately leaked it to Huo Xiuzhu?!
He clenched his fists, disbelief written across his face. He had spent so long preparing for that competition. He had thought he simply wasn't good enough, never imagining that Wen Chuxue had leaked his idea to Huo Xiuzhu.
He drew a deep breath, finding it utterly unbelievable. Inwardly, he kept shaking his head. Wen Chuxue couldn't possibly do this to him.
Seeing that Jiang Ye, that little bastard, still hadn't come to his senses even now, Mother Jiang was so angry that her chest heaved, and her expression instantly darkened.
[It's tonight. Wen Chuxue is going to find a confidential document for Huo Xiuzhu. Although that love-brained Jiang Ye probably won't believe it, or might just sleep like the dead through the whole thing, I still really hope that love-brained fool can stumble upon that iconic scene.]
[Will that love-brained fool just hand the confidential document straight to Wen Chuxue? I honestly think he might.]
Song Shiwei's words instantly made everyone's eyes light up!
Well, well! Would they get to see Wen Chuxue slapped in the face tonight?
Then they'd better hurry off to bed!
Chapter 11
◎Next, please enjoy the moment love-brained Jiang Ye's defenses crumble.◎
Mrs. Jiang affectionately linked her arm through Song Shiwei's. "Weiwei! Thank you for all your hard work today. Mom had the kitchen prepare some bird's nest soup for you. Have it in a bit, then get a lovely night's sleep."
"Prepare a serving of bird's nest soup for Miss Wen Chuxue too. Miss Wen is pregnant, so she needs even more nourishment," Mother Jiang said calmly, so as not to favor one over the other.
Song Shiwei remained composed on the surface, but inside, she was laughing herself to death-
[For realsies, Mother-in-law? You're too good to me! I've never tried bird's nest soup before. I'll have a taste in a bit. I love you, my beautiful mother-in-law! Mwah, mwah.]
Mother Jiang watched Song Shiwei with a smile. Even Father Jiang's attitude toward Song Shiwei grew warm and amiable. "Shiwei, have you been settling in well with the Jiang family lately? If there's anything you're not used to, just tell us. Don't put yourself through any hardship."
[Huh? Father-in-law is pretty nice too. But even such a good father-in-law couldn't escape a villain's fate. In the end, his sons' infighting angered him to death.]
Jiang Kaiji: ?
Why did he suddenly want to drag those little bastards out and give them a beating?
Each preoccupied with their own thoughts, the couple watched Song Shiwei happily finish a serving of bird's nest soup, then try to keep them company and chat despite her long yawns.
After much coaxing, they finally persuaded Song Shiwei to go to bed.
Everyone exchanged glances. Jiang Ye's expression was downright ugly. Mother Jiang gave a cold laugh, her gaze indifferent. "Let's hurry off to bed too. It's getting late."
"Jiang Ye, you and Xiao Wen can find your own rooms. Remember, you absolutely must not enter your eldest brother's study on the second floor. There are quite a few confidential documents in there, and we wouldn't want anything to go wrong." Father Jiang made a point of reminding Jiang Ye as he rose to leave.
For a moment, Jiang Ye was caught between sorrow and joy, feeling as though he were riding a roller coaster. Just moments ago, he had been utterly certain that Wen Chuxue would never have made him lose.
But now, he was no longer sure.
Much of what Song Shiwei had just said in her thoughts already matched up. His gaze involuntarily turned to Wen Chuxue beside him, who was looking around the house.
Would Wen Chuxue really do something like that?
His once-unshakable conviction instantly wavered. Was Wen Chuxue the culprit who would bankrupt their family?
Were his family's miserable fate and his own all because of Wen Chuxue?
His gaze was murky, his mind a tangled mess, when Wen Chuxue's excited voice reached his ears. "Jiang Ye, let's hurry upstairs to bed. I'm tired."
Wen Chuxue had been looking around the Jiang family home. It really was enormous.
Sure enough, Huo Xiuzhu had been right. The Jiang family was a behemoth. As long as they stole just about anything from the Jiang family, they could make a fortune.
"Go on," Jiang Ye said, his voice a little hoarse.
They headed upstairs, each harboring their own thoughts. As they passed Jiang Xun's study on the second floor, she deliberately stopped and silently glanced inside. "Is this Eldest Brother's study?"
Jiang Ye's heart lurched, but he still nodded calmly. "Yes. Why?"
"Nothing, it just looks very grand," Wen Chuxue answered with a bright smile, though her eyes remained fixed unblinkingly on Jiang Xun's study. "It would be nice if I could go inside and have a look."
"What's there to see in a study? Let's go upstairs and rest. You're pregnant now, so you need to get plenty of rest." Seeing her gaze, Jiang Ye's heart gave a sudden jolt, and he spoke quietly.
Wen Chuxue nodded and headed upstairs, looking reluctant to leave.
After reaching the third floor, Jiang Ye took an extra precaution and put Wen Chuxue in his own room. Her room had surveillance cameras, so the moment Wen Chuxue left the room, he would know.
It wasn't that he didn't trust Wen Chuxue. It was just that Song Shiwei's earlier words had planted a seed of doubt in his heart.
Jiang Xun worked in his study late into the night. When he came out, he remembered Song Shiwei's words and deliberately left the study door unlocked.
Passing the master bedroom on the second floor, he instinctively paused, gently pushed the door open, and walked inside. Through his gold-rimmed glasses, he saw Song Shiwei in a pure white nightdress, sleeping in the middle of the bed with her eyes closed, as still as an oil painting.
They had all heard Song Shiwei's thoughts. Terms such as "plot," "female lead," "male lead," and "second male lead" appeared quite frequently in them.
He was no fool. Even though the idea was absurd, they had reached a conclusion: he was probably living in the world of a novel, and Song Shiwei probably knew about or had read that novel-or perhaps her consciousness had awakened.
And the butterfly effect of that awakening had allowed villains like them, or those unlucky souls who would more or less fall victim to the male and female leads' halos, to hear her thoughts?
