Chapter 16
As he passed Song Shiwei's room, he paused briefly, his gaze darkening and his fingers tightening. His striking, finely sculpted face looked as though he had made some sort of decision. After a long moment, he knocked on her door.
He thought that Song Shiwei had let him see someone's true colors today. He owed her an apology.
Song Shiwei did not open the door immediately after his two knocks, but he heard her thoughts. [Who the hell is it! I'm about to go to sleep, and someone's still knocking. If it's not my darling mother-in-law, sometimes I really want to go berserk.]
Jiang Ye: ...
He took a deep breath and knocked on Song Shiwei's door again. "Sister-in-law, it's me."
[Jiang Ye? Calling me sister-in-law? I must be dreaming. Better hurry up and get some sleep.]
"Sister-in-law, I need to talk to you about something." Jiang Ye knocked again. This time, Song Shiwei finally dawdled over and opened the door, looking at him warily.
[This dumb dog isn't carrying anything, is he? With him being this attentive, I feel like he's here to assassinate His Majesty-me.]
Jiang Ye: ...
His pretty, peach-blossom eyes darkened slightly, and his voice was a little quiet. "Sister-in-law, thank you for what happened today. I also wanted to apologize. My attitude toward you before was a little rude."
Song Shiwei's beautiful eyes widened slightly. [Jiang Ye is apologizing to me? Has he gone crazy and skipped his meds?]
[Wen Chuxue, just look at you. Such a perfectly good young man, and you actually drove him insane.]
[How about we just agree to let these two be together? One breakup, and he's lost his mind.]
Jiang Ye: ?
He should never have come.
He touched his hair, trying hard to tell himself to be patient. Whatever Song Shiwei said now, he could not get angry.
After all, she really had saved him.
Seeing Song Shiwei's dazed expression, Jiang Ye let out a heavy sigh. "Sister-in-law, don't worry about my mental state. I'm fine. Go to sleep. I'm joining the production tomorrow, and I won't see Wen Chuxue anymore."
With that, Jiang Ye left. Through her daze, Song Shiwei suddenly opened her eyes wide. [Joining the production? That production where practically everyone's a criminal?]
[Jiang Ye, you really have rotten luck. Joining that production nearly landed you in the police station.]
Jiang Ye, who was heading upstairs, suddenly stumbled and nearly fell flat on his face. ?
Author's note:
Sorry, everyone. I'm feeling extremely unwell today-a bad cold-so this is all I can write.
Chapter 16: Chapter 16
◎Not paying the taxes they should, sleeping with everyone they shouldn't◎
He was just about to listen for more about exactly what sort of criminals they were, but Song Shiwei went silent.
Sometimes Jiang Ye really wanted to call the police. At such a crucial moment, Song Shiwei had actually fallen asleep. Who could understand? He was so sleepy now that he couldn't sleep.
When Jiang Xun returned home after working late into the night, he saw Jiang Ye curled up alone on the sofa, staring ahead with a grave expression.
He strode past on his long legs without so much as a glance at Jiang Ye, but Jiang Ye could not help calling out to stop him. "Brother, you're back?"
Jiang Xun sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose. "Did you stop me just to tell me something that pointless?"
"I apologized to Sister-in-law today," Jiang Ye said, a little awkwardly.
"Mm. Well done. Keep it up." A faint ripple passed through Jiang Xun's eyes, but his manner of speaking remained as unapproachable as ever.
"Brother, actually..." Jiang Ye had wanted to say more, but Jiang Xun had already strode upstairs on his long legs.
His gaze darkened. He had actually rather looked forward to his brother lecturing him about why he would give up his career for a girl, but his brother hadn't. The anticipation that had filled his eyes gradually dimmed.
It had been like this since childhood. Their parents only ever saw his older brother, and his older brother was always cold and distant, treating them like guests, with more than enough courtesy but not enough familial affection. After so many years, perhaps he ought to have gotten used to it.
He raked a hand through his hair and slumped into the sofa, somewhat dejected.
"Why are you still awake?" When Song Shiwei's voice reached him, Jiang Ye was still doggedly scrolling through his phone.
He was huffing and puffing as he gathered information on the production. He was determined to see just how criminal the criminals Song Shiwei had mentioned actually were.
"Can't sleep," Jiang Ye replied offhandedly.
Anyway, whether he slept or not, whether he was healthy or not, no one would care.
"Go to bed early, or you'll get kidney deficiency," Song Shiwei said earnestly, taking a sip of water from her glass.
[Whatever you do, don't follow your third brother's example. Don't go crazy and then get tricked into going to Northern Myanmar to have your kidneys harvested.]
Jiang Ye: ???
His third brother was doing perfectly well at the corporation right now. He had even heard that he had started dating recently. How could he possibly get tricked into going to Northern Myanmar?
But if Song Shiwei could say something like that, it probably wasn't smoke without fire. Jiang Ye suddenly felt a pang at his waist. What on earth had that big idiot of a third brother done?!
Song Shiwei had finished her water in little sips and was about to head upstairs when she turned and crashed headfirst into a solid chest.
[Amen. Where did this wall come from? And why is it soft?]
Song Shiwei looked up and saw Jiang Xun in a black bathrobe, water still dripping from his hair. Her face did not redden and her heart did not race, but a piercing shriek erupted in her mind.
[Aaaaaah! It's my husband's pecs! I shouldn't have lifted my head just now. I want to die on his body, boo-hoo-hoo-hoo-hoo-hoo.]
[What do I do? I still want to touch them. Granny Heaven, I'm begging you, can you let me crash into him one more time? Just once.]
Jiang Xun and Jiang Ye's silence was deafening. In the end, Jiang Xun gave a light cough. "What did you come downstairs for, my wife?"
Song Shiwei rubbed her nose. "I was thirsty, so I came down for some water."
Outwardly, Song Shiwei was as steady as an old dog, but inside, she was like a wild horse galloping madly.
[To do you, my bodhisattva.]
Jiang Xun: ...
Jiang Ye: ...
Just look at the wife his brother had married. What wild, ravenous words.
