"I only went for a paternity test because I wanted to know whether I was really your child." Jiang Chao found it a little hard to say, but he still admitted it openly.
"Then how did the bid get leaked? Don't tell me there was a mole?" Jiang Ye snorted, his tone dripping with sarcasm.
Jiang Xun stood up and patted Jiang Ye on the shoulder. "You're at least good for something."
Jiang Ye: ?
What did that mean? Why was his eldest brother suddenly praising him?
Jiang Xun didn't believe Jiang Chao would really be stupid enough to do something as idiotic as selling out their bid price either. But according to the plot his wife had revealed, their □□ had still lost the bid in the end. That left only one possibility: there was a mole on Jiang Chao's team, or inside □□.
"Eldest Brother, what do we do next?" No matter how stupid Jiang Chao was, he wouldn't lose his mind enough to reveal their bid price to a stranger, unless there was a mole on his team.
"What else can you do? Turn their scheme against them and lure the snake out of its hole," Jiang Ye answered offhandedly from the side. "Did getting scammed turn you stupid?"
Jiang Xun's gaze fell on Jiang Ye again. "Good idea. We'll use it. If we win the bid, you get ten percent of the shares."
Jiang Ye, who was sitting off to the side playing a game: ???
A casual remark could get him ten percent of the shares?? If their value multiplied several hundred times, like Song Shiwei's inner voice had said, then... He quietly started doing the sums in his head. So, so, so much money.
Jiang Ye immediately perked up. "Brother, should I go fish some useful information out of Sister-in-law?"
"Not for now. If we win the bid, I'll personally hand the shares over to my wife," Jiang Xun said, raising an eyebrow. "Fifty percent. After all, without her, I wouldn't even know what bastards you two were, or even..."
Jiang Xun didn't finish his sentence. Jiang Chao and Jiang Ye didn't
His wife had already given them enough spoilers. If they couldn't even catch one little mole, they might as well give up and shut the company down for good.
Jiang Chao nodded too. "This time, I'll make that mole jump out of his own accord, unable to wait any longer."
"Should I come help you at the company too? I'm just sitting around at home anyway," Jiang Ye said, looking perfectly serious.
Clutching their briefcases, Jiang Chao and Jiang Xun whipped their heads around and said in unison, "Are you the mole?"
Jiang Ye was a classic case of trading brains for looks, with a mind as simple as Doraemon's. With his ability to manage a company, it would take the God of Wealth's blessing to keep it from going under within two weeks. They had reasonable grounds to suspect that Jiang Ye was the mole.
Jiang Ye looked indignant. "You don't appreciate a good heart when you see one. I just wanted to help."
"Be good, stay home, and collect your shares. Playing mind games isn't for you." Jiang Chao abruptly gave a light cough, then teased him with a smile.
Jiang Ye ground his back teeth, but swallowed his anger. Jiang Chao wasn't wrong. He really wasn't suited to playing mind games.
He'd been scammed so badly just by dating someone. If he entered the business world, even throwing the entire Jiang Family's fortune into the bargain probably wouldn't be enough.
Jiang Ye raked a hand through his hair. Wasn't it better to be a good-for-nothing who collected shares while lying around? Having his brother work for him would feel amazing!
Father Jiang and Mother Jiang sat on the sofa, watching the three brothers play off one another as they discussed how to resolve this crisis. Gratification showed in the couple's eyes.
"Dad, Mom, I'm heading upstairs," Jiang Ye said mildly to Father Jiang and Mother Jiang.
Father Jiang and Mother Jiang exchanged a glance. "Well, son, your mom and dad owe you an apology."
"Ever since you were little, we've focused all our attention on Jiang Chao. We always thought you were easygoing and outgoing, so we assumed you wouldn't mind that much. We neglected your feelings. We're sorry."
Jiang Ye couldn't quite describe what he felt. All the bitterness and hurt of his childhood surged up at once. "It's okay, Dad, Mom. I stopped holding those things against you a long time ago."
"Son, if anything makes you unhappy from now on, remember to tell us, all right?" Mother Jiang said earnestly.
Jiang Ye was her own flesh and blood. Hearing that he would meet such a tragic end had truly felt like knives twisting in her heart. Ultimately, they couldn't escape responsibility for how lovesick this child was or for the tragic end he would meet.
If they had given Jiang Ye enough care growing up and made him feel secure enough, he wouldn't have been deceived by Wen Chuxue's false affection. In the end, it was still their fault as his parents.
"All right." Jiang Ye nodded. "I hope you can treat Jiang Chao and me equally from now on. Can you?"
After learning why his parents treated Jiang Chao so well, his heart felt even more as though it were roasting over a fire. He knew it was only right for his parents to treat Jiang Chao so well, and that he ought to be understanding, but the longing he had carried deep inside since childhood couldn't be ignored.
He took a deep breath and finally voiced those words he found so hard to say.
Father Jiang and Mother Jiang looked at each other, then burst out laughing. "All right. From now on, we'll treat you brothers equally. We absolutely won't treat you differently again."
Jiang Ye nodded solemnly. "I'll get along with Jiang Chao from now on too. I'm the older brother. I'll take good care of my younger brother."
Mother Jiang nearly cried when she heard Jiang Ye's words. "Honey, Aye really has grown up."
Father Jiang gently held his wife by the shoulder. "Yes, and we have Weiwei to thank for that. With the three brothers united, there's no difficulty they can't overcome."
Mother Jiang nodded. They really did need to thank Song Shiwei. Song Shiwei was like a little lucky star heaven had sent to their Jiang Family.
Just what kind of treasure had Jiang Xun picked up for a wife?
Mother Jiang's face immediately lit up with a smile. "Honey, why don't we hold a family banquet? I want to introduce Weiwei to everyone."
Father Jiang nodded in agreement. "I think that's a good idea. Let's call Zhuxin back too. How long has it been since that girl showed her face? She probably hasn't even met Weiwei yet. With how much she loves eating melon and joining in the fun, she's sure to like Weiwei."
