Infiltration and Rescue
The red light pierced through Ye Mo's body, as if passing through a thin mist.
A muffled thud echoed from the container behind him, the metal sheets instantly melting and twisting into bizarre shapes. A wave of heat hit him, causing the hem of Ye Mo's hoodie to billow violently. He didn't turn around, nor did he pause for even half a second; his body slid into the deeper darkness of the warehouse area, propelled by the airflow.
Although the variant of "Regenerative Phasing" is unstable, it is enough to prolong his life a few more times in this life-or-death moment.
The air around him was thick with the smell of burnt rubber and dust. Ye Mo lowered his center of gravity, his sneakers making a soft cracking sound as they stepped on the broken glass. He didn't rush to run, but moved like a fish, skimming the gaps between the collapsed walls and abandoned vehicles.
The bullet whizzed past his head, struck a nearby concrete pillar, and sent Mars flying.
Ye Mo turned to the side and activated his ability again. The deadly Negasonic Teenage Warhead passed through his shoulders and chest without any resistance, as if he were just a holographic projection. Under the questioning gaze of his enemies, he appeared from the other side of a pile of scrap metal, his movements as fluid as if he had rehearsed countless times.
Ahead was a collapsed pillar, beneath which lay several trembling children.
The cries were piercing, like sharp whistles cutting through the chaos of the battlefield. The children's screams did not attract any rescue; instead, they made the panicked adults around them even more confused, and the risk of a stampede was rising rapidly as they pushed and shoved.
Ye Mo frowned. Shouting to reassure them? That would be too slow and would give away their location.
He took a deep breath, his eyes turning cold.
The first child was a little boy, about five or six years old, who was pale with fright. Ye Mo walked up to him, said nothing, and simply grabbed his collar. The next second, his figure blurred and passed directly through the broken brick wall behind him.
The child paused for a moment in mid-air before landing in a relatively safe semi-underground bunker. There, a sturdy concrete platform provided cover, temporarily removing the area affected by stray bullets.
Then came the second, the third...
Like a tireless porter, Ye Mo used his ability to Wall Phasing to quickly move through the ruins. He carried the children to safety one by one, cutting off the source of their fear. Only after the last group of children entered the shelter did he emerge from the other side of the wall and appear at the edge of the crowd.
At that moment, several mercenaries spotted the figure in black.
There's someone over there!
Several gunshots rang out in succession.
Ye Mo did not dodge, but stood still, letting the bullet pass through his body. But just as the bullet was about to hit his heart, he suddenly mobilized his mental energy to create a slight disturbance in the airflow.
In the eyes of those mercenaries, Ye Mo's figure suddenly split into several afterimages, swaying left and right, making it impossible to tell which one was real.
"What's going on?" one of the mercenaries asked, adjusting his aim in confusion.
In that instant of hesitation, Ye Mo had already turned around and continued clearing obstacles from the evacuation route. He used his ability to Wall Phasing to move the twisted iron door blocking his way and pulled out the broken beam that was jamming the passage.
The common people only felt that the road in front of them had suddenly become clear, but they couldn't see who had done it. They subconsciously followed the flow of people forward, and the originally congested passage gradually became smooth.
In the center of the battlefield, Captain America Steve Rogers, wielded his Vibranium Shield, fending off wave after wave of attacks. His eyes, sharp as an eagle's, scanned every corner of his surroundings.
His brow furrowed slightly as his gaze swept over the chaotic warehouse area.
The figure in the black hoodie appeared and disappeared intermittently, operating with precision and composure. That unhurried demeanor reminded him of a black encrypted card he had received before.
Just then, an out-of-control Rocket, trailing a plume of flame, veered erratically toward the civilian area.
The distance was too far, the angle too far, and Steve couldn't be in two places at once to keep an eye on everything.
At the critical moment, the dark figure moved.
Ye Mo instantly Wall Phasing and appeared beneath the Rocket. Although he didn't completely materialize to withstand the explosion, he used his body as a buffer, altering the Rocket's trajectory.
Boom!
The explosion occurred in an open area, and the blast wave sent Ye Mo flying several meters away. He forcefully twisted his body in mid-air, landed steadily, and dusted himself off.
Steve witnessed this.
In the firelight, the black figure flashed by and then disappeared into the shadows.
Steve didn't order a pursuit. Instead, he whispered into the communication channel, "Stay alert, avoid friendly fire."
His tone was calm, yet carried an implicit sense of goodwill.
Ye Mo sensed this unspoken understanding from the shadows in the distance. A slight smile played on his lips as he thought to himself, "You're smart enough to know what's good for you."
But he didn't show up to greet them, nor did he make any other moves. He simply continued clearing the roadblocks silently until he confirmed that the last group of children had been safely evacuated.
With the civilians mostly evacuated, the main conflict at the center of the battlefield intensified. Energy fluctuations became more violent, and the high temperatures and shockwaves began to affect Ye Mo's stability Wall Phasing.
He sensed a powerful psychic force—the scanning system of Tony Stark's armor—searching for unusual signals in the area.
They can't stay any longer.
Ye Mo took one last look at the safe children, then turned and disappeared into the deeper night and ruins.
To counter Tony's scan, he deliberately shut down most of his sensory output, maintaining only the most basic vital signs. Using his ability to Wall Phasing, he embedded himself into the internal structure of a damaged building, making his body one with the building structure, thus shielding himself from thermal imaging and radar scans.
In the dim light inside the building, Ye Mo leaned against a load-bearing column, adjusting his breathing.
Through the broken window, he glanced at Tony Stark in the distance. At this moment, he was just a "legend" in the eyes of an ordinary person who had survived the war, an unseen guardian.
Tony's armor hovered in mid-air, the reactor on his chest flashing intermittently, as if searching for something.
Ye Mo closed his eyes, his consciousness sinking into the depths of his mind. From the bottom of the gray "Gene Spiral Tower," a slight tremor came from, the cooling feedback after using his ability.
He opened his eyes and looked out the window at the sky, which was stained red by the flames of war.
The wind was strong, blowing dust from inside the building down in gusts.
