The chill of being watched hadn't completely dissipated from the air inside the carriage, and Ye Mo didn't head straight for the city center as T'Challa had expected. He stopped, his gaze passing through the gap in the metal doors of the elevator that had just closed, returning to the depths of that deep blue crystalline forest.
"Wait." Ye Mo raised his hand, interrupting T'Challa as he was about to turn and leave. "Just now in the core area of the mine, I sensed something was wrong. Not danger, but... hunger."
Emma Frost frowned, keenly catching the fleeting seriousness in Ye Mo's tone. As Mutants, she had an instinctive alertness to energy fluctuations, but at this moment, Ye Mo's aura was eerily calm, like a bottomless well. "Hunger?" Emma Frost repeated the word, finding it somewhat absurd. " Vibranium is inorganic; it doesn't get hungry."
"That's true for ordinary people." Ye Mo pushed up his silver half-rimmed glasses, a nonchalant smile playing on his lips, but beneath that smile lay undisguised greed and focus. "But for me, an 'outsider,' this stuff smells like a freshly baked feast."
T'Challa paused for a moment, then regained his composure befitting a king. He glanced at the Wakanda scientists behind him who were busy processing data, then at Ye Mo's deep eyes, and finally nodded. "Since you insist, then go and see the ' Silent Zone.' That's the very heart of the mine; even our technology can't fully analyze its energy field. If you can gain any insights from it, it will be an honor for Wakanda."
The three stepped into the elevator again. This time, the elevator descended to a depth far exceeding the previous tour route. The surrounding rock walls became even smoother, as if they had undergone some kind of extreme polishing, without a single rough mark. As the depth increased, the temperature in the air dropped sharply, and an indescribable sense of oppression enveloped them. This was not physical weight, but a mental heaviness, as if the weight of the entire world was pressing down on their heads.
Ye Mo closed his eyes, and the X-Gene Resonance System within his body began to operate frantically. Deep within his consciousness, the barrier of the 7th level of the Gene Spiral Tower emitted a slight hum, as if urging him to open that door. He took a deep breath, adjusting his breathing rhythm, trying to suppress the restless energy. He knew that if it got out of control, the consequences would be unimaginable.
The elevator came to a stop, and the doors slowly opened. Before them was a huge circular hall, devoid of any light source, except for a fist-sized piece of Vibranium ore suspended in the center of the floor. This ore was a strange dark red, with blood-like patterns flowing across its surface. The surrounding space seemed to be distorted; light here became viscous and flowed slowly.
"This is the Silent Zone." T'Challa's voice echoed through the hall, tinged with awe. "This is where we store our most precious samples, and it's the core area for researching the origins of Vibranium. Any unauthorized approach will trigger the defense mechanisms."
Ye Mo remained silent, his gaze fixed intently on the dark red Vibranium. The resonance within his body grew stronger, as if countless fine needles were piercing his nerves. He took a step, walking towards the ore. With each step, the ground beneath his feet trembled slightly, as if the earth itself was shaking.
Emma Frost followed behind Ye Mo, her palms slightly sweaty. As Telepathy, she could sense the power accumulating within Ye Mo, a power so strong it made her feel suffocated. She wanted to speak up to stop him, but her throat felt like it was blocked by something, and she couldn't utter a sound.
T'Challa stood rooted to the spot, his hands clenched into fists, his knuckles white. He stared at Ye Mo's retreating figure, a complex mix of emotions welling up inside him. Trust? Worry? Or anticipation? He couldn't quite put his finger on it. But he knew he couldn't look away at that moment.
Ye Mo walked up to the dark red Vibranium, less than ten centimeters away. He could clearly see the flowing patterns on the surface of the ore; they seemed to be breathing, each undulation accompanied by the release of energy. Ye Mo reached out and gently touched the surface of the ore with his fingertips.
At that moment, time seemed to stand still.
A massive surge of energy instantly flooded Ye Mo's body, rapidly spreading from his arm throughout his entire body. His muscles tensed, and his bones cracked as if they were about to break. A sharp pain shot through him, causing him to groan involuntarily, veins bulging on his forehead, and cold sweat trickling down his cheeks.
" Ye Mo!" Emma Frost exclaimed, trying to rush forward, but T'Challa grabbed her arm.
"Don't move!" T'Challa growled, his eyes fixed on Ye Mo. "He's enduring a massive energy shock. If you interrupt him now, you'll face the consequences!"
Ye Mo gritted his teeth, enduring the physical pain. He did not back down, but instead actively immersed more of his consciousness into the Vibranium. Like a greedy Beast, he frantically devoured the pure energy. Cracks began to appear on the seventh barrier of the Gene Spiral Tower under the impact of his will, and a faint light shone through the crack, illuminating his pale face.
The surrounding air began to vibrate violently, and visible ripples appeared in the previously calm space. These ripples spread outwards from Ye Mo, stirring up dust on the ground and forming small vortices wherever they passed. Emma Frost felt dizzy; her Telepathy completely failed at this moment, as if she were trapped in a fog, unable to perceive anything.
T'Challa's data panel suddenly went black, all readings returning to zero. He stared in shock at the scene before him, a sight he had never witnessed before. The energy of Vibranium could be absorbed so purely by a single person, defying all the scientific common sense he knew.
Ye Mo's body began to change. A faint silvery-white halo seeped out from his pores. This light did not come from external lighting, but rather from within his body. The light changed in brightness with his breathing rhythm, as powerful as a heartbeat. His long hair moved without wind, floating in the air, and his whole body seemed to have broken free from the constraints of gravity, hovering a few centimeters above the ground.
This strange light wasn't dazzling, but it carried a sacred and majestic aura. It enveloped Ye Mo's body, isolating him from the surrounding world. Through that light barrier, Emma Frost could only see Ye Mo's blurry figure, unable to discern his expression, but she could sense the purity and power of that force.
T'Challa put down the data panel in his hand, staring blankly at Ye Mo. He was filled with shock, but also a tinge of worry. Who exactly was this young man? Had the power he possessed gone beyond his control?
Ye Mo's consciousness roamed in this ocean of energy. He saw the helical structure of genes, the flow of energy, and the secrets of the universe's depths. All of this was as clear as the lines on his palm. He knew that he was approaching that critical point, and a completely new ability was about to be unlocked.
This power was no longer a simple defense or attack, but a more fundamental form of control. It involved the transformation of matter, the reorganization of energy, and even the fine-tuning of space. Ye Mo felt his soul trembling, an instinctive fear in the face of an unknown power, and also a burning ambition to control everything.
The tremors around them grew more intense, and rocks began to fall from the ceiling of the hall. Emma Frost covered her ears, enduring the deafening noise. T'Challa spread his arms, shielding Ye Mo with his body, trying to protect him from the falling debris.
Ye Mo was completely unaware of this. His entire attention was focused on the Gene Spiral Tower within his body. The barrier of the 7th layer finally shattered completely at this moment, and an unprecedented energy surged out from the bottom of the tower, instantly flowing through his limbs and bones.
The light suddenly intensified, illuminating the entire hall as bright as day. The silvery-white halo turned into a dazzling gold, as intense as the sun. Ye Mo let out a long howl, his voice filled with a mixture of pain and ecstasy.
Emma Frost and T'Challa had to close their eyes to avoid being blinded by the bright light. In their eyes, Ye Mo was like a god descended to earth, radiating an inviolable aura.
As the light gradually faded, Ye Mo slowly landed on the ground. The moment his feet touched the ground, everything around him returned to calm. The tremors stopped, the rubble fell to the ground, and the oppressive feeling in the air dissipated.
Ye Mo opened his eyes, his pupils shimmering with the golden afterglow of the setting sun. He looked up at Emma Frost and T'Challa beside him, a bright smile spreading across his face. The smile held a hint of weariness, but more so, confidence and composure.
"Looks like," Ye Mo dusted himself off, his tone as casual as if discussing the weather, "I've found the key."
Emma Frost removed her hands from her eyes and stared at Ye Mo in disbelief. She opened her mouth as if to say something, but ultimately remained silent. She simply stood there quietly, sensing the completely different aura emanating from Ye Mo.
T'Challa opened his eyes as well. He walked up to Ye Mo and scrutinized him closely. The young king noticed that Ye Mo's eyes had changed. They were no longer the nonchalant pretense of before, but a firm and profound look born of experience.
"You did it," T'Challa said in a low voice, a slight tremor in it. "You activated something."
Ye Mo didn't answer; he simply felt the new life force within him. It was warm and powerful, flowing through his veins and giving him boundless energy. He knew this was just the beginning. The real challenge was yet to come.
A brief silence fell over the hall. Only the faint sound of the wind in the distance and the slightly rapid breathing of the three people could be heard. Ye Mo stood still, with the dark red Vibranium ore beneath his feet, and a shocked Emma Frost and T'Challa beside him. He looked up at the dark dome above him, a thoughtful glint in his eyes.
