An atypical transmigrator
When Li Boyang opened his eyes again, he had already escaped that endless darkness.
Yet his eyes still could not see anything. He could only faintly hear voices outside speaking in a language he could not understand at all.
But Li Boyang did not find this strange.
Because he knew he was still an unborn baby, an embryo that had yet to take shape.
Strangely enough, even though his brain had only just begun to develop, Li Boyang already possessed a rudimentary capacity for thought and learning.
Day after day, month after month, he listened to those conversations outside.
With a capacity for learning that no normal baby could possibly possess, Li Boyang was familiarizing himself with and learning this world's language.
So, am I a genius in this life?
As this thought flashed through his mind, Li Boyang began carefully sensing his current state.
What he found was unexpected, yet made perfect sense.
What truly sustained Li Boyang's thoughts was not this infant body that had yet to fully develop.
Within Li Boyang's Dantian, a semitransparent Sword Pill hovering between existence and nonexistence was the true vessel of his soul.
So I've become a sword spirit?
As a new-generation transmigrator from the twenty-first century, Li Boyang had ample capacity to accept and understand this.
As for how Li Boyang had become a sword spirit?
By repeatedly tracing back through his fragmented memories.
In a haze, Li Boyang seemed to glimpse the life of a "non-template transmigrator."
After transmigrating to an unfamiliar world, he had received neither any fortuitous encounter nor a golden finger.
Instead, the death of his physical body had exposed his soul's abnormality to a strange old man.
Then, shouting wildly and laughing in words Li Boyang could not understand, the old man had swiftly captured him.
By the time Li Boyang reacted.
The old man had already thrown him into an enormous Pill Cauldron, attempting to refine his soul with a terrifying three-colored flame.
Rejected by heaven, rejected by earth, and barred from entering the cycle of reincarnation...
As a soul from another world, Li Boyang had retained his "indestructible" nature no matter how the old man tormented him.
Only when the old man took out a tiny golden sword had Li Boyang's soul finally been refined by that enormous Pill Furnace and fused into the tiny golden sword.
His memories of before his transmigration had also begun to fragment at that time.
Then here comes the question: how did I escape from his hands?
And why have I become a fetus like this?
Despite the ten thousand questions in his head, Li Boyang felt extraordinarily calm.
He knew his current state was abnormal, yet he could not muster the slightest anger or hatred.
Although everything the old man had done back then had failed to refine Li Boyang's soul completely, it had still exerted some profound and lasting influence on him.
Extreme calm-or rather, indifference-was merely one of its side effects.
Without the interference of the seven emotions and six desires, Li Boyang could examine everything that had happened to him more calmly, from the perspective of a complete bystander.
Emotions are nothing more than biological hormones...
Once I have a body again, I'll regain my emotions sooner or later.
With these thoughts, Li Boyang closed his eyes again, quietly sensing the development of his body in this life.
Then Li Boyang noticed the "fissure" between his brows, which clearly was not an organ that developed in normal creatures.
The pineal gland?
No, that's a third eye-a Heavenly Eye!
If Li Boyang still had emotions, he would surely have been astonished beyond measure.
Li Boyang was not certain whether that Heavenly Eye was an essential organ for the creatures of this world.
But he could clearly recognize that this Heavenly Eye, which had yet to take shape, differed from normal biological organs.
Merely by trying to open that Heavenly Eye, Li Boyang saw invisible substances resembling Qi and Blood surrounding his embryonic body.
That was while the embryo was still in its prenatal stage.
A kind of nutrient produced specifically by the maternal placenta to allow the child to grow strong and healthy.
Although he had never seen anything like it, that did not prevent Li Boyang from seeing its effects and putting it to use.
Whoosh!
With his own rhythmic fetal breathing, those nutrients were merging into Li Boyang's body more rapidly, allowing his body in this life to develop into a more perfect form.
Different breathing rhythms also seemed to affect the embryo's absorption of those nutrients.
Thus, through observations made with the still-unformed Heavenly Eye between his brows.
Li Boyang began consciously controlling the rhythm of his fetal breathing to absorb and digest those nutrients to the greatest extent possible.
It was also during this process that Li Boyang noticed those nutrients were actually effective on the Sword Pill within his Dantian as well.
Or, more precisely, the Sword Pill within his Dantian and the Heavenly Eye between his brows were the organs that utilized those nutrients most efficiently.
After absorbing those nutrients, the Sword Pill grew more brilliant all over.
After absorbing those nutrients, the Heavenly Eye began taking shape faster and faster.
After a series of comparisons and observations by Li Boyang.
He discovered that, at a normal baby's rate of absorbing those nutrients, the Heavenly Eye could not possibly take shape during the ten months inside the mother.
From this perspective, the Heavenly Eye seems to be a vestigial organ discarded during biological evolution?
After reaching this conclusion, Li Boyang truly did not know what to say.
After all, the Heavenly Eye required far too many nutrients. Discarding it during the embryonic stage was simply the most correct choice possible.
Because biological evolution had never proceeded toward "perfection" or "the strongest."
"Suitability" was the unchanging principle of biological evolution.
They can promote renewed development in a vestigial organ, and also have a certain strengthening effect on the Sword Pill and the soul.
Could those nutrients be the Innate Qi of Daoist legends?
As this thought flashed through his mind, Li Boyang quickly reined in his slightly wandering thoughts.
Now isn't the time to think about this...
At present, there's a more important problem that needs solving!
Can my mother in this life actually provide enough nutrients for me to develop?
Had this been the twenty-first century, Li Boyang would not have worried about this issue at all.
But the problem now was that, if the world he inhabited was that strange old man's world, it had nothing whatsoever to do with any technological age.
Taking Earth's ancient feudal societies, or even its slave societies, as a reference.
It was perfectly normal for a mother to be unable to provide sufficient nutrients for her baby, or to give birth to a stillborn child because of various accidents, or even for one death to claim two lives.
Looks like my research into and use of Innate Qi will have to wait.
Right now, I must first ensure that I can be born safely, rather than become a stillborn child because I was too greedy.
Given this rare chance to be reborn as a human, Li Boyang understood this clearly.
And so, he began listening even more attentively to the various sounds and conversations coming from outside.
Language... was often the first threshold to understanding a world.
