Forging Greatness Through Deeds (2/3)
The border between the Baling Kingdom and the Guifang Kingdom.
"Is this also a statue of the God of Arbiter of Fate?"
Standing in front of a huge statue.
A man dressed in burlap and straw sandals made a strange face.
Behind the man, Yue, with horns growing from its head, wings sprouting from its back, and its body as red as fire, gave a wry smile.
"It seems so; this is the statue that the village sculpted for him."
I looked up at the enormous statue.
Yue couldn't even remember which version of the God of Arbiter of Fate was this.
Fortunately, compared to those abstract statues of Arbiter of Fate, the statues in this village at least have some human-like features.
The upper body is human, the lower body is a raging tide.
The human's body was covered with fish scales and various strange patterns, which added to its resemblance to Human-Faced Fish.
"That's really interesting. It's the first time I've seen someone so unconcerned about their image."
"If it were any other deity, they would probably rebuke these villagers even if they entered their dreams willingly, right?"
She surprisingly offered an explanation in response to the man's teasing.
"I think it might be because that prophet hadn't yet become a god—"
"Once he officially becomes a god, he will naturally unify his image in the hearts of the people, laying the foundation for his future advancement to Heavenly Deity."
In this era, there was no concept of incense offerings or faith.
The ability to hear the voices of believers is one of the fundamental abilities of a deity.
Using this ability to solidify their image and anchor their existence is the most common practice among Heavenly Deity in order to maintain their identity.
"Become a god?"
Do you really think that prophet would want to become a god?
The man gave Yue a half-smile, then asked a question in return, neither confirming nor denying.
"Well, I think so?"
"After all, there aren't many beings in this world willing to voluntarily give up becoming a god, like you."
He scratched his head, looking somewhat uncertain, and muttered to himself, appearing quite confused.
"It's not much, but it's not nonexistent."
"Judging from the prophet's various actions, he was clearly the outlier."
Before anyone could object, the man began to speak on his own.
"He cared deeply for the Mountain Folk in the mountains and devised a unique method of spiritual practice—"
"Then he killed Wuzhiqi and quelled all the floods near the Hundred Lands Mountain Range."
"Such achievements, even in the Great Xia, would make him a candidate to inherit the position of the future Common Lord."
The man's, or rather Wu Yi's, voice was filled with emotion.
If he hadn't seen it with his own eyes, he simply wouldn't have believed that such a person was just a teenager.
Furthermore, what Wu Yi just mentioned is only a part of this young man's achievements, and cannot even be considered the main part.
The fact that he reclaimed fertile land, cultivated superior breeds, domesticated poultry, explored waterways, built water conservancy projects, wrote texts, invented tools, constructed roads, spread technology, and wrote books and preached—even if only one percent of these deeds were credible, they would still be enough to make him comparable to the first Common Lord.
Needless to say, based on the information Wu Yi obtained from his memories...
The above rumors are not even sufficient to describe all of the boy's achievements.
Along the way, Wu Yi also witnessed the other party's ability to command spirits and control Ghost God, making him virtually omnipotent.
"This stretch of road ahead must be the most dangerous part of our journey so far, right?"
Gazing at the now-dead Guifang Kingdom, Wu Yi spoke slowly.
The ancient Guifang Kingdom has been destroyed, and the land ravaged by floods has been abandoned and turned into barren wastelands.
In addition, there was the Wind of the Netherworld that constantly shrouded the Guifang Kingdom, showing no mercy to any Ghost God, or monsters.
Even just standing in this village, Wu Yi could feel the despair and desolation of that land.
"I asked the local Mountain Folk before, and that Wind of the Netherworld should be the former Gods of the Five Directions —the Roaring Heaven Clan— "
Looking back at that silent land, he reported the intelligence he had gathered in advance.
His hatred was directed only at Wuzhiqi's subordinates and those water gods who took advantage of the chaos to cause trouble---
"As outsiders like us, as long as we don't go to Cliff Settlement City to provoke him, the Roaring Heaven Clan won't bother with us."
In the following description, Wu Yi fully understands the power of the Roaring Heaven Clan.
Having lost their country, the Roaring Heaven Clan's only humanity remained, sustained solely by hatred.
This is not uncommon among the Heavenly Deity.
Especially those Heavenly Deity who have lived for over a thousand years,
What truly surprised Wu Yi was that although Roaring Heaven Clan had transformed into the Wind of the Netherworld, driven only by vengeance, he had not completely gone berserk or out of control.
On the contrary, as long as one does not provoke the Roaring Heaven Clan, the Guifang Kingdom is now safer than other places.
At the very least, the Guifang Kingdom didn't have those water gods who stirred up floods, nor those mischievous spirits who took advantage of the situation to cause trouble.
Until Wu Yi officially entered the territory of the Guifang Kingdom.
They then realized that although there were no water spirits or monsters causing trouble here, it was not a very habitable place either.
The land ravaged by the floods has yet to recover from the breached riverbanks, and even fish are struggling to survive in the damaged ecosystem. It's simply not something that can be restored in just a few years.
Endless swamps and overflowing rivers have become the dominant features of this country.
As the two continued to delve deeper into the subject...
Wu Yi soon discovered something even more shocking.
The reason this country is so desolate is not solely due to the Wind of the Netherworld that constantly linger over this land.
The ubiquitous relics of the Heavenly Deity are also a major reason why people keep their distance.
Those are the traces left behind by the great battle between the Roaring Heaven Clan, the Tide-Swallowing Clan, the Tufang Clan, and Wuzhiqi; they are the remnants of the true Heavenly Deity.
Eliminate those surface-level factors that have been damaged.
The disordered Earth Veins, water veins, and primordial energy of these places will continue to affect this region for decades, or even centuries.
If there were no other Heavenly Deity to gradually sort out these chaotic primordial forces of heaven and earth.
No one could survive here, let alone settle down here permanently.
"This tiny Guifang Kingdom is truly a place where hidden talents abound!"
Because the Guifang Kingdom had already far exceeded the territory ruled by the Great Xia.
Therefore, Wu Yi never expected that there were actually Heavenly Deity here who could fight against Wuzhiqi, and there was more than one.
"We are indeed still too far from here." When the news reached the Great Xia, apart from knowing that Wuzhiqi had been defeated by the combined forces of the Red-Haired Celestial Person and the Heaven-Eroding Lord, there was absolutely no other useful information.
