Interfering with Reincarnation, Recreating Souls
At almost the same time, on a remote island near the Ten Continents and Three Islands.
"That idiot who did all that unnecessary work!"
Stepping out of the void, Six Ears, standing on a white lotus, naturally wouldn't miss the commotion in the distance.
Since killing Xu Jia, Six Ears has been recuperating in the blessed land.
After all, Xu Jia's [Sixteen-Foot Golden Body] was no joke.
Even though he showed mercy to Six Ears, it still took Six Ears Heavenly Timing to finally kill him.
Unfortunately, before Six Ears could recover from his injuries, he sensed the eruption of the Yin World Nether Spring.
At first, Six Ears didn't know who had done it.
Until Maudgalyayana was forced to reveal himself by Divine Lord Meng Zhang.
Six Ears then realized that this matter might be related to his senior brother.
Although Ananda and Maudgalyayana were close disciples of the future Buddha Ancestor, they had significant differences in their specific beliefs.
For Ananda, from the moment he crossed the Long River of Time, he had already given up everything.
Ananda no longer cared about future possibilities or his own personal feelings.
What he sought was the birth of Buddha Ancestor, the rise of Buddhism and Daoism, and the ultimate wish to save all sentient beings.
However, Maudgalyayana was different; he still had his own ties to the mortal world.
To save his mother, Maudgalyayana even braved Hell and, with almost unbelievable Divine Ability, rescued her from the Tongue-Pulling Hell. Hell devotion to his mother, even at the cost of his own life, ultimately moved Kṣitigarbha Bodhisattva.
Maudgalyayana thus earned the reputation of being "foremost in Divine Ability" and attained the state of Arhat.
In Maudgalyayana's view, he believed that the Buddha Ancestor's ultimate goal of "saving all sentient beings" was indeed correct.
But the reality is that all sentient beings inevitably have distinctions of closeness and distance.
To kill one's family, teacher, and friends for a goal whose success is uncertain is a grave violation of Maudgalyayana's moral code. Therefore, although both Maudgalyayana and Maudgalyayana traverse time and space, Maudgalyayana descends to this world in the form of an incarnation, rather than in his true form, making a desperate gamble.
This is similar to the difference between "procedural justice" and "substantive justice".
Ananda pursued absolute "outcome justice," and was willing to sacrifice everything, including himself, for the final outcome.
Although Maudgalyayana did not pursue "procedural justice," he absolutely could not accept outcome-based justice.
Maudgalyayana simply couldn't imagine whether his Dao Heart would crumble if the "sentient beings" he was saving didn't include his own relatives and friends. This was Maudgalyayana, an Arhat with lofty aspirations yet still choosing to be grounded in reality.
Privately, Ananda even thought that Maudgalyayana's faith was not firm at all, and that the other party never really believed that the great vow of "saving all sentient beings" could be realized.
Although in a sense, Ananda's understanding was indeed correct.
Maudgalyayana was able to clearly recognize the difference between ideals and reality, and was willing to take his ideals as his goal and continuously put them into practice in reality. But the reason why an ideal is an ideal is because it is far enough from reality that it is more like a hope and longing for something beautiful. One day, when the ideal actually comes to fruition, Maudgalyayana will doubt whether it is real.
In this situation, it seems possible for Maudgalyayana to take any action.
"But what was his purpose in forcibly activating the Yin World Nether Spring?"
With his gaze fixed on the depths of the East Sea, Six Ears frowned in deep thought.
According to the normal procedure, with Xu Jia's death, his soul would be guided by the ghost messengers to the Netherworld and then begin the cycle of reincarnation. Six Ears really couldn't understand why Maudgalyayana insisted on sending Xu Jia to the Six Paths through the Yin World Nether Spring.
For this reason, they even made such a big commotion.
From Six Ears's perspective, the bigger the commotion Maudgalyayana makes now, the smoother his subsequent actions will be.
However, the uncertainty brought about by Maudgalyayana's actions made Six Ears feel a sense of unease.
"The most crucial question is, how did that guy activate the Yin World Nether Spring?"
Just as Maudgalyayana knew Ananda's true nature, Ananda also knew Maudgalyayana's abilities.
The opponent is known as "the most powerful in Divine Ability," the most formidable of Buddha Ancestor's ten disciples, but this "powerful" ability doesn't include opening the Yin World Nether Spring [did someone else interfere?].
As if realizing something, Six Ears suddenly understood the source of his inner unease.
Who could it be? The Dao Ancestor? One of his fellow disciples? Or someone else entirely?
Hundred Lands Mountain Range, Cloud Dream Jade Pool Mirror.
What the hell are those things?
Li Jingshu stared at the image in the Kunlun Mirror with a furrowed brow.
With the help of the Kunlun Mirror, Li Jingshu could clearly see a vast causal chain converging on Xu Jia's soul.
That was clearly not something a normal soul should have, which was why Maudgalyayana forced his way into the Yin World Nether Spring.
If we follow the normal reincarnation process, all the karma on the character "Li" will be washed away, and then he will be reincarnated as the purest soul. But now, not only did the karma on Xu Jia's soul not disappear with his death, but there are more and more.
Those Dao Proving One all turned their gaze to this soul, attempting to make it their next incarnation.
To be honest, this was originally an almost impossible thing.
For the vast majority of living beings, the soul possesses uniqueness, almost equivalent to identity, spirituality, thought, and self.
Even those Dao Proving One, if they wish to rewrite their origin or destiny, can in most cases only recreate their souls and create a new identity for themselves.
However, Xu Jia's soul was an exception.
Xu Jia's soul is essentially the soul of Amitabha Buddha, Buddha formed from the collective righteous thoughts of all sentient beings.
The difference between the two is like the difference between a private car and a public bus.
Those Dao Proving One do not aspire to become the master of this soul; they merely wish to use this soul to reaffirm their own Dao Path.
Once one's Dao Path has taken root in this era, it will be much easier to move on to the next station or even jump ship than for those Dao Proving One already Dao Proving from scratch.
Especially now that the Yin World Nether Spring has been forcibly opened.
If those Dao Proving One can catch this bus, they won't even need to worry about the Meng Po's Soup a symbol of forgetfulness in Chinese mythology).
They can retain their own memories and practice as Buddha, making it the shortcut to Dao Proving that every Dao Proving One dreams of. The only problem is that this shortcut is far too "perfect."
It was so perfect that it seemed like a meticulously prepared trap, just waiting for the Dao Proving One to fall into it.
Having arrived in the era of the Dao Ancestor's manifestation, the Dao Proving One present were certainly not fools; they could immediately see the risks involved. Even Maudgalyayana, who had failed to forcibly cross the Yin World Nether Spring and was trapped in the gap between the two realms, was caught in the middle.
Those Dao Proving One believe that this cannot be a coincidence.
