You're Actually Quite a Nice Guy
As far as the eye could see, a black bird came hurtling toward them.
It was so fast that the two Nascent Soul cultivators behind it simply could not catch up.
But the black bird was already gravely wounded and could not fly much farther.
Seeing it approach, Lu Changsheng turned to flee. Seemingly noticing this, it accelerated further and dropped toward him without hesitation.
Lu Changsheng had already made his move, intending to knock it back and run, only to discover that the black bird kept shrinking as it descended. In the end, it became three inches long and crashed straight into the young man.
Pfft!
The young man was injured to begin with, and that collision nearly sent him straight to the afterlife.
Seeing this, Lu Changsheng was about to react when the black bird spoke.
"Fellow Daoist, save my life, and I will reward you handsomely!"
"Reward me handsomely?"
Lu Changsheng's eyes lit up. After only an instant's consideration, he made his decision.
This black bird looked anything but ordinary. If he wanted to leave, those two could not stop him anyway. After all, his escape techniques were unmatched. This counted as seeking riches amid danger.
If it went back on its word, he could simply sell it. He would make a killing and lose nothing either way!
Yet before Lu Changsheng could respond, the black bird had already passed out. It was staking everything on Lu Changsheng being a good person!
Whoosh!
Lu Changsheng swept his sleeve, and a black robe enveloped him. The two Nascent Soul cultivators came charging from behind, unleashing lethal attacks.
Boom!
He struck to meet them, his Law Power transforming into a ribbon of light that blasted out.
Endless radiance intertwined and manifested, instantly enveloping the surroundings. The two passed through the streaming light, only to discover that he had vanished.
"Where did he go?"
One of them spoke, his brows furrowing.
The other spread his Divine Sense, trying to search, but found not the slightest trace.
"Damn it, it got away again!"
"What do we do now?"
"Search. We have to bring it back, no matter what. We cannot let it escape again!"
"All right."
The two set off, splitting up.
Not far away, Lu Changsheng watched the two depart, momentarily lost in thought.
Glancing at the little black chicken in his palm, he could not help saying, "You're not going to bring some huge trouble down on me, are you?"
After pondering for a moment, he could only keep it on his person. Otherwise, its presence might leak out and bring its pursuers to him.
Afterward, Lu Changsheng returned to the sect and brought the young man to Qingyun Peak. After examining his injuries, he found that although they were rather severe, he could still be saved.
He pulled out the feathered arrow, treated the wound, fed him a pill, and then left him there.
He also began examining the little black chicken. He had taken an enormous risk to save it and had yet to receive his reward. He absolutely could not have taken that risk for nothing.
Yet while treating it, he discovered a golden plume embedded in its body. Astonishing Sword Intent flowed from it, constantly grinding away its vitality.
"Its Sword Intent actually reached the ninth level. What kind of opponent did you provoke?"
As Lu Changsheng examined it, he immediately acted to destroy the Sword Intent and pulled out the golden feather.
The black chicken had been unable to destroy the Sword Intent earlier, but ninth-level Sword Intent was nothing to him. He could destroy it with a casual move.
After treating its injuries, Lu Changsheng hesitated repeatedly before taking out a pill and feeding it to the bird.
"You'll have to pay me back for this!"
Then he began fiddling around with the black chicken's body.
A long time passed before he finished everything and breathed a sigh of relief.
Saving someone was far more exhausting than killing them.
The young man soon woke as well. Opening his eyes to the unfamiliar surroundings, he grew wary.
Yet he was startled when he saw Lu Changsheng.
"You saved me?" the young man asked, somewhat incredulous.
"Isn't it obvious?"
Lu Changsheng raised an eyebrow.
The young man remained stunned. He clearly remembered the three of them finding that valley and seeing the black bird.
What they had not expected was that it was actually a Nascent Soul ferocious beast. The three of them were no match for it and could only flee, eventually encountering the youth before him.
After that, he remembered nothing.
The last person he had seen was indeed Lu Changsheng.
The two looked at each other.
The young man immediately rose and said, "Thank you for the great kindness of saving my life, Fellow Daoist!"
Seeing him bow, Lu Changsheng was surprised again. This person really was somewhat different.
This genius from the Divine Firmament Sect was neither arrogant nor overbearing, nor did he look down on everyone like Zhao Huan. He distinguished right from wrong and understood reason, making him rather likable.
"Don't mention it. How could we cultivators stand by and watch someone die?"
"I will never forget such great kindness!" The young man continued, "My name is Ye Qingchen. May I ask your name, Fellow Daoist?"
"Lu Changsheng!"
"Lu Changsheng?" Ye Qingchen froze.
"Is there a problem?"
Lu Changsheng remained calm.
Ye Qingchen said, "What a coincidence. I've heard your name before, Brother Lu!"
The reason went without saying. After all, what had happened at the Cangyun Sect was no secret.
Lu Changsheng smiled without saying anything.
Ye Qingchen then asked, "Brother Lu, what about the other two?"
"They're dead!"
"Dead?"
"Yes. You know how terrifying that ferocious beast was. I was lucky to bring you back alive, and even then, I nearly got dragged down with you..."
Lu Changsheng recounted the dangers at the time. The more he spoke, the more hair-raising his account became, leaving his listener repeatedly stunned.
Ye Qingchen sighed with emotion. None of this had been easy at all, and he rose once more to bow and express his thanks.
Of course, Lu Changsheng also lamented the fickleness of life and expressed regret over the deaths of those two!
Finally, he left the room, telling Ye Qingchen to rest well, and returned to his own room.
Before he could sit down, a voice came from inside his robes.
"Fellow Daoist, you're actually quite a nice guy. You clearly killed them yourself, yet there you were, lamenting their deaths!"
Startled, Lu Changsheng pulled the little black chicken out of his robes.
"When did you wake up?"
"When you started telling your story!" The black chicken glanced at him, inwardly shocked.
It could clearly sense that the person before it brimmed with youthful vitality and was still a youth, certainly not one of those monsters who preserved their youthful looks. Yet his cultivation had reached the Nascent Soul Realm.
Such a genius truly was astounding.
Lu Changsheng nodded. "Since you're awake, fulfill your promise. It's time to pay my reward, Fellow Daoist!"
"Someone as extraordinary as you still cares about this little reward, Fellow Daoist?"
"Are you trying to welsh on your debt?" Lu Changsheng narrowed his eyes.
The black chicken hopped up, intending to fly onto the table, only to fall straight down in the middle of its leap.
With a thud, it landed face-first and immediately looked up in horror.
"You planted restrictions in my body!" The black chicken's mood changed, and it hurriedly examined itself.
Lu Changsheng said, "I just casually planted a few. I was worried you'd welsh on your debt!"
The next moment, as the black chicken sensed the state of its body, every black feather stood on end.
"Eighteen restrictions, and you call that a few?"
It truly had not expected a full eighteen restrictions inside its body. They restricted it in practically every respect. With a single thought, he could finish it off instantly, leaving it no room to struggle!
"Just in case, I planted a few extra!" Lu Changsheng said with a smile.
The black chicken trembled. It truly had never expected the day would come when someone held it in check.
But once it calmed down, it also felt fortunate. Although this person had planted so many restrictions, at least he had saved it. It could not help studying the person before it.
Seeing that the other party still gave no response, the look in Lu Changsheng's eyes began to change.
"Fellow Daoist, you're not really going to welsh on your debt, are you? I took a huge risk to save you!"
