Because even if their opponents moved quickly, they could still assume a defensive posture before being hit to mitigate the damage.

This included, but was not limited to, using the hard parts all over their bodies.

That was one of the key reasons they could endure attacks, rather than merely relying on their species' innate strengths.

They could even counterattack afterward, dealing damage back to their opponents.

If one really broke it down, the stat of Speed included movement speed, attack speed, reaction speed, and more.

Leading in only one of those areas gave an advantage in battle, but it was not absolute.

The reason Pokemon stats were generally divided into only six dimensions.

Was not because there were no other ways to measure them, but because this method was the easiest to understand and calculate.

Otherwise, with hundreds or thousands of Pokemon species, each Pokemon having a dozen or even dozens of stat values.

The threshold for becoming a trainer would truly be a little too high.
