She glanced at the camera mounted in the corner of the wall, then smiled at her younger brother. "Why don't we pick the third one, the intelligence option? The first two aren't things we can even dream of anyway. We should be content with what we have."
That answer killed two birds with one stone.
It both matched the general preference of the viewers online and conveniently highlighted her fine virtues.
Wen Tianqi understood what Wen Zhixin meant and obediently nodded along. "Okay, I'll listen to you, Sis."
Soon, the Wen siblings became the first to press [I make a living with my brains].
Not long afterward, An Ya made the same choice.
Although An Ya wasn't as calculating as Wen Zhixin, she understood the drawbacks of choosing the first two buttons.
So, with no other options available, An Ya could only make the same choice.
Both the Wen and An families' livestreams quickly made their selections and successfully advanced to the next stage.
But what the viewers never expected was that such a simple choice would leave the Chu siblings stuck yet again.
In the Chu family's livestream.
Chu Yu swept up her hair, exposing her smooth neck. "Isn't the 'Number one beauty in the universe' option practically tailor-made for me?"
Chu Chen countered with a stony face, "Could you think before you speak? The looks option is clearly digging a pit for us. I think picking money is safer. After all, money really is something we don't lack. We fit that label perfectly."
Chu Yu narrowed her eyes, her tone dangerous. "Are you saying I'm lacking in looks?"
Gu Jinhuai rubbed his throbbing temples, utterly speechless at their argument.
He even had a premonition: if he weren't in this group, the Chu siblings would probably argue inside the haunted house all day without leaving.
"How about rock-paper-scissors? One round decides it," Gu Jinhuai suggested helplessly.
Chu Yu thought this was a fairly reasonable method and immediately nodded, rolling up her sleeves as she looked across at him. "Come on, rock-paper-scissors!"
Not to be outdone, Chu Chen rolled up his sleeves too and vigorously shook out his wrist.
Three seconds later, the game ended with Chu Yu as the winner.
The defeated Chu Chen could only watch in frustration as Chu Yu smugly stepped forward to select a button.
With a smack, Chu Yu pressed the button hard.
But when she saw which option she had pressed, she suddenly froze. "I think I pressed the wrong one. I hit [I'm just rich]."
Chu Chen, who had been thoroughly dejected just moments earlier, instantly lit up, his face blooming into a smile. "Sis, you can't blame me for this."
Chu Yu: "..."
Sure enough, people shouldn't get too smug, or lightning would strike them.
As the Chu siblings pressed their selection, the mechanism-operated gate to the haunted house's first stage gradually opened.
It was a stone door ten centimeters thick, and as its mechanism activated and it slowly rose, dust kept falling from the gaps.
All three of them turned their gazes toward the space beyond the stone door, curious about what was inside.
Only when the stone door had risen all the way to the top did the scene inside come into view.
It was a track that looked a full five meters long, with a slight incline.
Chu Yu couldn't work out what this was supposed to be for. Just as she was about to speak, she suddenly felt the ground rumble.
It sounded as though something enormous was rolling toward them.
"Stupid, filthy, wealthy humans! The stench of copper covering your bodies disgusts me beyond measure. I cannot stand it. Die, all of you!" a voice like that of an ancient monster rang out.
Only then did the guests make out what was at the top of the passage.
"Shit! It's all rocks up there. They're not going to push all of those down to crush us, are they?" A hint of nervousness crept into Chu Chen's voice.
Although everyone knew the production team wouldn't use overly dangerous props on the guests, the immersion at that moment still made them sense danger.
Gu Jinhuai's mind raced, his gaze happening to sweep across the entrance of the tunnel they had crawled through earlier. "We can hide in the tunnel from before. Rocks this big can't get inside."
But the moment he finished speaking, the lights throughout the room inexplicably went out.
A staff member's voice came again. "The haunted house occasionally experiences unstable voltage. Please don't panic, guests~"
Gu Jinhuai: "..."
Just then, the sound of rolling rocks rang out.
Gu Jinhuai had no time to hesitate further. Instinctively reaching toward where Chu Yu had been standing, he said, "Come with me."
On the other side, Chu Chen also reacted to the immediate crisis.
He wasn't scared anymore either. His first thought was of his sister, and he ran straight through the darkness toward where Chu Yu had just been.
"Sis, let's hide in the tunnel!"
Gu Jinhuai and Chu Chen each grabbed a hand and quickly ducked into the tunnel.
This wave of boulder attacks didn't last long, gradually stopping after only about a minute.
When he sensed that the noise outside had faded, Gu Jinhuai breathed a sigh of relief.
Across from him, Chu Chen also asked with concern, "Sis, you're not hurt, are you?"
Just then, the bulbs that had supposedly suffered from unstable voltage lit up again.
Inside the tunnel entrance, Gu Jinhuai and Chu Chen, who were tightly holding on to each other, stared straight into each other's eyes. Two seconds later, an incredulous sense of shock and absurdity rose within them both.
Chu Yu, who had long since run to safety and hidden when the danger struck, strolled out with ease.
But when she turned her head, she saw Gu Jinhuai and Chu Chen in each other's arms at the tunnel entrance.
Chu Yu: "??"
When had these two gotten so close?
