The Peach Tree Demon
Soon, it was almost noon.
An Weiyan had more or less finished his records as well. Feeling a little hungry, he had someone bring out three sacks of rice, then returned to the main world to get something to eat.
After returning to the main world, An Weiyan saw the messages Su Qingyun had sent him on his phone.
"Cloud-Stilling Temple on Frost Crimson Peak has been vacant for quite some time. How about staying there as a lay practitioner and helping look after the Daoist temple?"
"Of course, although I'm calling it helping look after the place, we won't have anyone else preside over the temple."
Su Qingyun had played a little trick. She did not want An Weiyan to be given the title of Daoist priest outright. Although Daoist priests could still marry and have children, she always felt a little awkward about it.
An Weiyan thought this was just right when he read it.
He was not actually a Daoist priest, after all. If he stayed at a Daoist temple as a priest, he would have to perform morning and evening devotions every day.
Staying at a Daoist temple as a lay practitioner suited him well.
"Thanks. I'll treat you to a meal another day!"
An Weiyan replied on his phone.
Su Qingyun was initially delighted when she saw this, but then she remembered that the last time An Weiyan had said this, he had said it would be when he had time. Her pretty face immediately soured.
Even when rejecting her suitors, she had never been as perfunctory as An Weiyan.
Frost Crimson Peak? Wasn't it Frost's Descent?
An Weiyan was a little curious about the name.
But after looking it up, he discovered that the place really was called Frost Crimson.
Seeing this, An Weiyan gave it no further thought. After hurriedly finishing lunch, he returned to the other world.
Meanwhile, Su Qingyun waited a long time without receiving another reply from An Weiyan. So angry that she picked up a cushion beside her, she raised her delicate foot and kept stomping on it.
It was as though An Weiyan were in front of her, and she were stomping on him over and over.
"Land God, you promised to let me have the ability to divine things. Teach me now!"
Holding back his excitement, An Weiyan came before the Land God Temple.
He had not immediately brought this request up with the Land God before, mainly because the matter of the Daoist temple had not yet been settled.
Now that it had been settled, however, he could give it a try.
Hearing this, the Land God replied, "Naturally, that is no problem. But my lord, you must understand that this ability also consumes divine power. Once the divine power this humble god grants you is exhausted, you will lose this ability."
There was a restriction like that too?
Still, since things had already come this far, An Weiyan nodded.
Seeing this, the Land God said no more and directly bestowed his divine power upon An Weiyan.
An Weiyan did not see the Land God make any additional movements, but a moment later, he felt something different.
The Land God before him no longer looked like nothing more than a spirit tablet, as he had before.
Now, when An Weiyan looked at the Land God, he could see wisps of Qi continually rising from him. The Qi was yellow.
It looked somewhat illusory.
Is this the Incense Offering Qi the Land God mentioned?
An Weiyan did indeed feel something a little different in his body now, and murmured this to himself inwardly.
"How many divinations can I perform in total?"
An Weiyan asked.
"That depends on whom you divine for, young master. If they are people of high standing, roughly three times. If they are ordinary people, ten times will be no problem."
The Land God seemed to have expended a great deal, and there was a trace of fatigue in his voice now.
Seeing this, An Weiyan felt somewhat ashamed and thought that he must get more Incense Offering Qi to replenish him in the future.
He reckoned that if he gave the Land God more high-grade Incense Offering Qi to absorb, the color he saw when looking at the Land God would probably no longer be yellow.
It might be green, blue, purple, or something like that.
This should also represent the level of his divine power.
An Weiyan took the opportunity to ask about the female ghost who had been following him.
The thought of that female ghost still following him made his skin crawl a little.
When An Weiyan asked about the female ghost, the Land God gave him a proper account.
In short, that female ghost was extremely vicious and likely had several hundred years of cultivation. He was not yet a match for her.
"But you need not worry for the time being, my lord. A peach tree demon in the woods north of the mountain is about to undergo its tribulation. Countless vicious creatures will hurry there when the time comes."
"Those vicious creatures are all waiting for the peach tree demon to fail its tribulation so they can fight over its corpse and refine its cultivation. They will not pay you any attention for a while."
The Land God explained this to An Weiyan softly.
Hearing this, however, An Weiyan was startled. "Then if the female ghost gets that corpse and refines its cultivation, won't her cultivation soar? Wouldn't she be able to overrun Linbei County then?"
The Land God fell silent for a moment upon hearing this, then agreed. "That would indeed be the case. If that female ghost truly gets the tree demon's corpse, her cultivation will surge to nearly a thousand years. Even this humble god would be no match for her."
An Weiyan shuddered all over at these words. What the hell?
He had thought he was hearing good news, but how was this good news at all?
An Weiyan left feeling rather gloomy, knowing that he had to help the Land God increase his divine power as soon as possible.
Unfortunately, the more famous temples and similar places all had surveillance cameras and such inside. With so many people around as well, there was simply no good way to make a move.
He would have to keep that as a backup option for now.
Within Linbei County itself.
In a lush forest, ten li deeper into the woods, a peach tree that seemed to be blooming out of season came into view.
Normally, at this time of year, all the blossoms on a peach tree should have fallen.
Yet this peach tree was now covered in blossoms, and not a single petal lay beneath the uncanny tree.
Some distance from the peach tree, venomous insects and fierce beasts had already begun quietly lying in wait nearby.
Farther away, there was also a white-robed figure extremely familiar to An Weiyan, floating on a branch.
Seen from afar, the place was utterly eerie, with countless ferocious creatures gathered there.
If an ordinary person drew even a little closer, they would certainly die in an instant.
The peach tree in the distance seemed to sense this scene, and its branches trembled.
Seeing the peach tree demon move, the ferocious creatures nearby all ignored it, knowing that it had no way to deal with them right now.
With the peach tree demon's tribulation imminent, how could it do anything to them?
If it wasted Demon Power dealing with them now, the lightning tribulation would surely strike it dead when it descended.
Seeing that it could not drive these fellows away, the peach tree demon fell quiet.
Just as those tiger demons and the like thought, it could not attack these fellows. If it wasted Demon Power, it would have trouble surviving its tribulation in the days ahead.
As long as it survived its tribulation, it could deal with these fellows afterward.
