Origin and Formation
Crystal Cores are energy bodies originating from the meteor showers that have struck Blue Planet for three hundred years. Some newly fallen meteorites already contain rudimentary energy bodies, though these have not yet reached the quality of refined Crystal Cores 2 80.
According to Dr. Wang, time and the absorption and evolution processes of mutated plants and animals refine impurities, producing cores containing purer energy. Qi Feng later explains that most cores encountered in the wilderness have been absorbed and transformed into new energy bodies inside mutated organisms; relatively few remain naturally occurring 80 289.
Appearance
- Shape: No fixed form 2.
- Color: Red, orange, yellow, green, cyan, blue, purple, and mixtures of these colors; black, brown, pink, and pure white specimens also appear 2 12 48 51 399.
- Size: Ranges from grains of sand to giant specimens comparable in height to a five-year-old child 3 399.
- Glow: Laboratory specimens emit a soft glow, while a giant red Meteorite Crystal Core visibly illuminates its surroundings 80 155.
- Energy concentration: Physical size alone does not establish value. A soybean-sized black core contains 108 standardized Crystal Core units and requires several larger red cores for an equal exchange 147.
Energy Grades
The bases jointly establish a unified grading standard based on measured energy value 3.
| Grade | Energy Value |
|---|---|
| D | 0–999 3 |
| C | 1,000–9,999 3 |
| B | 10,000–99,999 3 |
| A | 100,000–999,999 3 |
| S | 1,000,000–9,999,999 3 |
| SS | 10,000,000–99,999,999 3 |
| SSS | 100,000,000–999,999,999 3 |
| SSS+ | At least 1,000,000,000 3 |
- Early point exchange: The base offers ten points per unit of measured energy. Sang Luoluo sells a D-grade core with an energy value of 312 for 3,120 points 3 8.
- Later currency standard: Base 71 adopts “one Crystal Core” as its smallest measurement unit, using the standard established by Grandpa CC’s Farm App 137.
- Physical core versus currency unit: A single physical specimen can represent many standardized Crystal Cores; a core used by Li Hongshen is worth 1,000 units 351.
Uses and Effects
Human Evolution and Recovery
Crystal Core energy can strengthen compatible humans and develop their abilities 3 80.
- People with special constitutions can absorb cores to strengthen their bodies, heal injuries, and repair genes 3.
- Dr. Wang’s experiments establish that Evolvers can enhance existing abilities and may develop new evolutionary paths through absorption 80.
- Compatibility is restricted: Evolvers select cores whose energy they can absorb. Other members of Sang Luoluo’s group cannot absorb the black cores she seeks 99 147.
- Absorption can cause palpitations, dizziness, and sweating. One laboratory participant suffers stronger reactions after absorbing a second peanut-sized core 88.
- Online reports describe three ordinary people awakening different abilities after exposure to radiation from a special Crystal Core 130.
Sang Luoluo’s Space
Sang Luoluo can absorb cores of every tested attribute. Her space actively takes in their energy, unlocking crops, buildings, storage, and simulated environments 80 88.
| Core or Supply | Documented Effect |
|---|---|
| Pale yellow, matchbox-sized core | Unlocks the entire large villa 9. |
| Brown core, half the size of a fingernail | Unlocks ten mu of apple orchard 12. |
| Dark green, fist-sized core | Unlocks seven warehouses 21. |
| Bright yellow, soybean-sized core | Unlocks thirty mu of cornfields 49. |
| Pink core recovered from a large rock | Unlocks ten mu of peanuts and thirty mu of wheat 51. |
| Cores accumulated beside the sales panel | Unlock approximately 500 square meters of reservoir 124. |
| A large accumulated supply | Unlocks part of the simulated sea zone 138. |
| Ten giant cores | Strengthen her evolutionary ability and produce qualitative changes in the space, including enlargement of the Spirit Spring opening 217. |
- Energy-dependent expansion: During the Zone 34C expedition, weaker cores unlock half a mu or one mu of mountain land, while energy-rich specimens can unlock ten mu 97 99.
- Absorption remains destructive: Spent cores may disappear entirely, leave empty shells, or become dust 297.
- Further development: When Sang Luoluo seeks a Crystal Core transfer feature for the Farm App, her space responds that it needs more cores 176.
Black Crystal Cores and Mental Power
Black cores are particularly important to Sang Luoluo’s Mental Power development. Ordinary absorption through her space also helps, but has a smaller effect 141.
- The number of black cores absorbed strongly affects her Mental Power’s evolution 141.
- Improving the ability requires exceptionally large quantities of black cores 227.
- After absorbing a giant black core, she remains unconscious for a full day and night. Her perception range doubles to 200 meters, and her control range doubles to twenty meters 217.
- The same breakthrough strengthens her barriers and shields and improves the flexibility and precision of object control 217.
Power Sources, Weapons, and Tools
- Radiation shields: Large cores power base radiation shields. Base 71’s SS-grade core has supplied its shield for twenty years without exhausting its energy 2 3.
- Weapons: Cores act as expendable energy sources for firearms and cutting weapons. Continuous firing rapidly drains their reserves, requiring cores to be placed in the energy compartments 3 147.
- Civilian tools: Crystal Core chainsaws are used to extract cores, cut timber, and harvest mutated crops. Bases permit privately commissioned civilian tools, subject to taxes and fees 288 341 375.
- Vehicles: Qi Feng’s modified core-powered vehicle approaches 400 kilometers per hour. A fingernail-sized core with a measured value of about 1,000 powers it for a full day and night 339.
Detection and Collection
Detection Equipment
| Method | Capabilities and Limitations |
|---|---|
| Early energy detectors | Find most cores, but can miss specimens left in mutated plants, animals, or nearby ground 21. |
| Laboratory detectors in Zone 34C | Have a maximum detection range of approximately five meters; exceptionally high-energy cores exceed their measuring range 97. |
| Crystal Core detection watches | Display detected locations and energy levels, but are not reliably sensitive to cores inside living creatures 99. |
| Later meteorite detectors | Show the locations of Crystal Core meteorites on wristwatches in real time 137. |
| Sang Luoluo’s perception | Detects cores missed by instruments, including high-energy specimens, and allows precise location marking for extraction 97 289 399. |
- Testing cost: Early in the story, the cheapest energy-testing equipment available to Sang Luoluo costs 1,000 points 3.
- Uneven distribution: Meteorite-dense areas may contain few or no cores, while another area may have only a handful of meteorites, all containing cores 97.
Sources and Extraction
- Buried deposits: Cores occur underground, beneath ice, and inside rocks. Extraction uses drills, excavators, or digging machines 21 48 51 97 278.
- Mutated plants: Cores appear inside trunks, roots, and flower buds, sometimes requiring chainsaws or cutting weapons to retrieve 4 5 155 288.
- Mutated animals: Bodies can contain multiple cores, but finding any is not guaranteed. Six mutant wolves yield more than forty cores in one collection 14 99 147.
- Animal hoards: Rabbit burrows, underground nests, and other dens contain accumulated cores. Whether animals deliberately hoard them to become stronger remains uncertain 55 258 289.
- Remote retrieval: Sang Luoluo can pull cores directly into her space within her Mental Power control range; teams also use small robots for deep tunnels and plan specialized robots for underwater collection 211 215 258.
Hazards
- Intense radiation: A giant Meteorite Crystal Core causes dizziness and nausea among Sang Luoluo’s companions while their vehicle is still eight hundred meters away 213.
- Mutation and deformity: Animals exposed to a giant core develop altered bodies, increased deformities, and changes in speed and sharpness. Plants absorbing another giant core undergo further mutation and emit intense radiation themselves 213 281.
- Exposure during meteor showers: Collectors risk death from falling meteors and radiation injuries severe enough that their haul cannot cover treatment 130.
- Ground collapse: Removing giant buried cores can leave underground voids and trigger cave-ins 215 281.
- Concentrated energy: High-energy forest cores make nearby team members feel ill until Sang Luoluo stores them away 289.
Economic Role
From Rare Treasure to Currency
- Early scarcity: Most shantytown residents have never seen a core. Historically, a chance discovery can pay for an inner safe-zone home and lifelong food and clothing 3.
- Declining purchasing power: After a meteor shower, a small core that Sang Luoluo believes once could have secured substantial supplies buys only a bag of food 73.
- Currency adoption: Cores circulate directly for food as points and credits lose usefulness. Base 71’s laboratory later announces core-denominated wages and plans to convert remaining point balances 73 82 137.
- Farm App demand: Users spend cores on supplies and VIP progression. At the stage when transfers are unavailable, forum users arrange local offline exchanges for cores, offering weapons, medicine, clothing, and houses 176.
- Reconstruction: Base authorities accept collected cores in exchange for supplies and as payment toward rebuilding survivors’ homes 335.
- Growing availability: Repeated meteor showers eventually leave some areas overflowing with cores, including specimens circulating through mutated plants and animals 337.

Notable Giant Cores and Expeditions
| Chapter | Discovery or Expedition | Significance |
|---|---|---|
| 155 | Giant red Meteorite Crystal Core entwined in roots | Nearby roots appear to absorb its energy. |
| 215 | Completion of a ten-giant-core retrieval mission | Sang Luoluo keeps the black core for Mental Power development and deposits the others into the Farm App. |
| 271 | Enormous pale green core | Measured at thirteen million standardized Crystal Cores; the team keeps it secret, and Sang Luoluo reserves it for ability improvement rather than food. |
| 399 400 | Pure white core approximately as tall as a five-year-old child | Retrieved during the valley expedition despite dangerous radiation and surrounding mutated vines. |
| 401 | Half-month valley collection mission | Accumulates tens of billions of Crystal Cores in the participants’ accounts. Sang Luoluo receives twenty percent of the shared haul, excluding small cores she independently retrieves; the mission and account totals become closely guarded base secrets. |
