Only the elderly remained in the village who hadn't gone to fight the fire, but they all stayed inside their houses with the doors closed. No one was out and about at this point.

The night was unusually quiet, a quiet that was unsettling.

Su Cheng felt that something was wrong...

Why are all the houses so tightly shut? Did the villagers even remember to close their doors when they were rushing to the mountain pass...?

"Da... da..."

Su Cheng heard a throbbing sound.

"Su Cheng, what's wrong?"

Seeing that she suddenly slowed down to listen, Su Xiaoxiao felt inexplicably worried. She touched the amulet around her neck and felt that it was burning hot.

Su Cheng's sixth sense seemed to Perception some kind of danger; her hair stood on end, and her heart pounded faster as if in warning...

I didn't feel this kind of panic when I was facing the locust tree spirit.

"Da... da!"

The pulsating sound became clearer.

Something dangerous is approaching.

Su Cheng looked towards the corner of the room to her right rear.

A figure slowly jumped into her field of vision.

It wore a black and red official robe and hat, its dark, thin face covered its skull, its fangs protruded from its lips, and its sunken eyes emitted a ghostly green light.

Its arms stretched straight out, its blackened fingernails were sharp and long, and it could leap nearly five meters...

"Hmm..."

A muffled breath escaped its throat.

yes

Zombies

!!

Su Cheng felt a chill run down her spine as the scene of discovering the coffin in the secret room under An Jing's bed flashed through her mind.

There were two blood bowls, one containing the blood of chickens and ducks, and the other containing An Jing's own blood.

An Jing did not raise any ghost children.

Because she's raising zombies!

A note from the author:

The small bomb was bought on sale at the supermarket~ I just fixed it, hehe.

Chapter 52

"Run!"

Su Cheng shouted and shoved the stunned Su Xiaoxiao and Keke forward.

In the terror of the approaching zombies, Su Zhou's legs went weak, and he could no longer carry Zhou Yang. Su Cheng could only carry Zhou Yang on either side of him as they ran.

The "tap-tap" sound of the zombies bouncing around created an extremely oppressive atmosphere for the group!

Su Cheng urgently called Mu Ling, "Can you make the call?"

Mu Ling just absorbed the yin energy of the locust tree, and her soul form became as solid as her human form. It's just unknown whether it's enough to fight against zombies.

Exhausted, Mu Ling floated out of the bracelet and turned around somewhat sluggishly. Seeing the pursuing zombie, she rubbed her eyes, "Zombies really do exist in this world!"

Ghosts and tree spirits have appeared, so the presence of zombies seems quite reasonable...

Mu Ling swallowed hard, barely managing to stand behind Su Cheng, and hesitated, "I... I'll give it a try..."

"You've become a ghost, why are you afraid of zombies?"

Who says ghosts can't be afraid of zombies...?

Before she became a ghost, she was just an ordinary person, okay?

Despite saying that, Mu Ling still stood behind Su Cheng, her black hair flying wildly as she bound the zombie's limbs.

The zombie opened its mouth and exhaled a stream of dark green corpse energy, instantly snapping the black silk binding it.

Its objective was clear; it had no intention of fighting Mu Ling and its gaze was fixed on Su Cheng and the other living people.

It craves their flesh and blood, but it's also possible that someone is manipulating things behind the scenes...

Even with Mu Ling holding them back, the zombies, though slow, still jumped very far.

Apart from Su Cheng, Su Xiaoxiao and the others were either dizzy or weak, and couldn't outrun it at all!

Since we can't outrun them, we have no choice but to fight.

Su Cheng breathed a sigh of relief. Fortunately, the injuries she sustained under the locust tree had mostly healed, so they wouldn't hold her back.

Su Cheng asked Su Xiaoxiao to help support Zhou Yang, and the four of them ran away to find a place to hide.

Su Cheng, with a boning knife in one hand and a cinnabar dagger in the other, turned and ran towards the zombie.

Mu Ling cooperated by grabbing the zombie's hands and feet, preventing it from jumping.

In the split second the zombie was distracted, Su Cheng plunged both the boning knife and the dagger into the zombie's eyes! Then she quickly jumped back, dodging its swinging long armor.

Black, putrid fluid oozed from the zombie's eyes. It had lost all sense of pain and continued its attack as if oblivious to everything.

Its corpse aura was even stronger; Mu Ling's hair snapped off upon contact with it.

Su Cheng barely dodged the attacking hands; sparks flew as the blade grazed the zombie's arm!

The zombie's limbs are like steel; they can only leave scratches, but cannot be cut off!

The boning knife couldn't devour the zombie, perhaps because the zombie wasn't tainted by resentment.

Its death was not accidental, and the only human blood it had ever consumed— An Jing's —was given willingly.

Su Cheng, who had been relentlessly attacking, gradually switched to dodging.

Zombies may look clumsy, but they are surprisingly agile when attacking.

It seemed to know that Su Cheng couldn't deliver a fatal blow. Its oozing eyes stared at her neck, its protruding fangs twitched slightly, and it emitted a low growl from its throat, continuously exhaling the aura of death...

To avoid touching the corpse energy, Su Cheng could only retreat step by step to create distance; if she was not careful, she would be grabbed or bitten by the zombie!

We can't let this drag on.

After parrying the attack with her knife, Su Cheng ran towards An Jing's house.

To catch the thief, first catch the king.

An Jing might be hiding inside the house, waiting for the zombies to return after completing their mission.

It must be said that An Jing has a strong ability to react and execute. After the fire broke out on the back mountain, he immediately arranged for everyone to fight the fire.

And taking advantage of this opportunity, they instructed everyone to close their doors and release the zombies to deal with Su Cheng and her companions.

Su Cheng ran ahead, while Mu Ling persistently used her black hair to hold back the zombie's jumping leg, slowing down its pursuit.

Su Cheng ran wildly, and when she saw An Jing's door in the distance, she bumped into Zhuangzi who was just arriving.

Zhuangzi, preoccupied with reporting the situation to An Jing, rushed out from the fork in the road and saw Su Cheng. He gasped in surprise, "You didn't get burned to death on the mountain?"

Immediately afterward, the flashlight in Zhuangzi's hand shone on the "person" jumping behind him. He shuddered, lost his balance, and fell to the ground. "A zombie?!"

"Zhuangzi? Why are you back?! Didn't we say we were all fighting the fire in the back mountains?!"

Hearing the familiar voice, An Jing leaned out of the second-floor window. Seeing Su Cheng and the zombie approaching, she shouted in exasperation, "Get over here right now!"

Zhuangzi, his legs trembling, scrambled to his feet and ran towards An Jing's house, gritting his teeth.

He was closer to the house than Su Cheng.

But Su Cheng was almost twice as fast as him, and in just a few seconds, she was ahead of him.

Seeing Su Cheng running ahead, Mu Ling pulled back her black stockings.

Freed from its restraints, the zombie leaped and pounced straight at Zhuangzi, its white fangs piercing through the man's fragile skin!

"Ah--"

"Don't want!"

Zhuangzi's piercing screams and An Jing's terrified screams overlapped, shattering the silence of the night.

Su Cheng glanced at An Jing, who had suddenly appeared.

The lights were off on the second floor, and An Jing waited behind the curtains.

An Jing guessed that she might come, so there was most likely a trap inside the house. The other party wanted to trap her like a turtle in a jar, and surround her from both sides with the zombies, leaving her there completely!

As for the remaining four, including Su Xiaoxiao, An Jing could capture them one by one as long as they remained in the village.

Unfortunately, man proposes, God disposes; An Jing's elaborate scheme was ruined by Zhuangzi.

By the time An Jing rushed out of the house, it was too late.

Her eyes reddened as she watched helplessly as Zhuangzi withered away in the blink of an eye.

She knew how much zombies craved blood; once they started feeding, they would drain their prey dry.

But seeing that Su Cheng was turning towards the back mountain, her heart tightened. Forgetting her grief, she quickly shouted, "Wait! I'll let you go!"

She screamed menacingly, "I'll let you go, okay? The villagers are innocent, don't take him with you!"

An Jing placed a rope soaked in some kind of blood around the zombie's neck.

Although the zombie made a warning "ho" sound, it did not attack her.

The zombie had drained Zhuangzi and looked up to sniff in Su Cheng's direction. It wanted to chase after him but seemed to be restrained by something, unable to jump.

He kept making rapid "ho" sounds from his throat.

Seeing that the zombies were under control, Su Cheng stopped in her tracks.

She was somewhat surprised that An Jing cared so much about the villagers' lives. She had thought An Jing was someone who only cared about profit.

However, this also reveals a piece of information: while An Jing can stop the zombies, she cannot remove their lock on Su Cheng and the others.

If she could make the zombies let go of their "obsession" with Su Cheng, why should she care where Su Cheng ran off to?

Why not just lock the zombies back in?

She's only temporarily holding them back; if she lets go, the zombies will continue to chase Su Cheng and the others until one of them dies.

If that's the case, her promise to "let them go" is just empty talk, because she can't do it.

Once An Jing used some means to make the zombies fixate on Su Cheng and the others, there was no turning back.

If Su Cheng hadn't considered this aspect and had relaxed her guard even slightly, she would have truly been walking into the lion's den.

Seeing that Su Cheng showed no sign of approaching, An Jing gritted his teeth, a flash of resentment at his failed scheme crossing his eyes.

She hadn't realized that the seemingly innocent girl Xu Rong and her husband had described was actually the most troublesome person among them!

If only she had known sooner, she could have simply kicked Su Cheng out of the village secretly...

But it's too late for regrets now. Her locust tree mountain has been burned down, Zhuangzi is dead, and the zombies she painstakingly raised are also being restrained.

If the zombies can't devour Su Cheng and the others, they'll become increasingly frenzied and gradually break free from her control...

"I've got it under control. Don't go towards the villagers. You should leave the village. I'll arrange a car for you."

An Jing looked exhausted, as if he had no other choice but to "admit defeat".

Su Cheng shook her head. "I want you to kill this zombie."

An Jing's face froze, her eyes hardening as she gripped the rope tightly. "He's my husband, I can't kill him. Its survival isn't up to you!"

Su Cheng sneered, utterly disgusted by those who had committed heinous acts and then tried to play the emotional card.
