Ch. 21Level Fourteen, Thunder Hand Cannon

Gao Shang tested his newly absorbed Fire Phoenix Wings, broke through to level fourteen, and prepared to assassinate Zhou Qi with a Class 5 Thunder Hand Cannon. By dawn, he had finally charged the cannon with an energy shell.

  • Gao Shang summoned the Fire Phoenix Wings, tested their flames and defense, and discovered that their powerful attacks rapidly drained his Soul Power.
  • After restoring his Soul Power, Gao Shang broke through to level fourteen and practiced flying until he could control the wings at low altitude.
  • Gao Shang discovered that the wing tattoo let him produce a weaker fire without revealing the External Soul Bone, then learned that Zhou Qi was a level forty-six Four-Ring Soul Ancestor.
  • Gao Shang decided to strike Zhou Qi first and used a 90% Off Item Card to buy a Class 5 Thunder Hand Cannon for ten thousand Gold Soul Coins.
  • Gao Shang spent the night injecting Soul Power into the cannon and, after using twenty recovery pills, successfully condensed its energy shell.

Ch. 22Dragon Scale Protection, the Assassination Begins

After recovering from exhausting his Soul Power, Gao Shang bought Dragon Scale Protection and went to Zhou Qi’s residence to assassinate him with the Thunder Hand Cannon. He found Zhou Qi’s corpse and rescued an injured girl, but the ground collapsed beneath him as he prepared to leave.

  • Gao Shang woke after sleeping through the day, ate dinner, and learned from Hong Hua that Zhou Qi had stayed home during Spirit Hall’s investigation.
  • Gao Shang purchased Dragon Scale Protection at a discount, summoned his Fire Phoenix Wings, and flew to Zhou Qi’s residence.
  • Gao Shang waited on a rooftop until Zhou Qi appeared at a window while servants brought him an unconscious young girl.
  • Gao Shang fired the Thunder Hand Cannon, blasted the main house into ruins, and suffered injuries from the weapon’s recoil.
  • Gao Shang found the injured girl alive, gave her a pill, and identified Zhou Qi’s charred corpse among the rubble.
  • As Gao Shang turned to leave, the ground cracked and collapsed beneath his feet.

Ch. 23A Chamber Within a Chamber, a Second Zhou Qi?

Gao Shang discovered the remains and organs of Zhou Qi’s victims in a hidden chamber beneath the estate and burned them before uncovering an even more concealed room. There he encountered a stitched-together girl he believed was Zhou Qi, and their fight ended with Gao Shang cutting off one of her arms.

  • Gao Shang found skeletons of young girls in the underground chamber and burned their remains to lay them to rest.
  • Gao Shang opened ten chests filled with human organs and destroyed their contents with Ultimate Fire.
  • The heat caused a wall to collapse, revealing a second secret chamber, where a stitched-together girl attacked Gao Shang by surprise.
  • Gao Shang’s Dragon Scale Protection blocked the attack, and he recognized the girl’s Martial Soul and Soul Rings as matching Zhou Qi’s.
  • Gao Shang attacked the girl with his saber; she dodged his first strike but lost an arm while blocking his follow-up.

Ch. 24The kill and the notebooks

Gao Shang killed Zhou Qi, rescued an unconscious girl, and returned to Gao Manor badly injured. After recovering enough to examine Zhou Qi’s two notebooks, he began reading to learn what the man had been researching.

  • Gao Shang severed Zhou Qi’s legs, burned him and his remains with Ultimate Fire, and confirmed that he was dead.
  • Gao Shang found two notebooks in Zhou Qi’s secret chamber, stored them, and fled with the unconscious girl as residents or patrol guards approached.
  • Gao Shang returned to Gao Manor, treated himself and the girl, and asked Hong Hua to take her to a clinic and later find her family.
  • Hong Hua learned that Zhou Qi had been dealt with, then left with the girl while Gao Shang closed himself in to recover.
  • After a day of rest, Gao Shang brought out Zhou Qi’s two notebooks to investigate his research.

Ch. 25Genius and madman

Gao Shang read Zhou Qi’s notebooks and learned how the gifted surgeon became obsessed with rebuilding his dead wife using stolen body parts and a fragment of his own soul. After discovering that the resulting puppet had developed memories and acted as Zhou Qi’s wife, Gao Shang asked the System whether it counted as an inanimate object or a living being and whether the shop had one.

  • Gao Shang opened Zhou Qi’s worn notebook and read the account of witnessing Ah Yin sacrifice herself, which led Zhou Qi to wonder whether he could resurrect his wife.
  • Gao Shang learned that Zhou Qi’s ancestor Zhou Ci had pioneered the Organ Exchange Method, but the family’s work was rejected as evil after a condemned prisoner died during the procedure.
  • Zhou Qi obtained a Soul Nourishing Jade and, unable to find his wife’s remnant soul, split his own soul in an attempt to create one.
  • Zhou Qi began collecting body parts from girls and others to assemble a body resembling his wife, producing a puppet that held part of his soul and could wield Soul Grandmaster strength.
  • Gao Shang read that the puppet developed memories of its own and began acting as Zhou Qi’s wife, then asked the System whether the puppet counted as an object or a living being and whether the shop had one.

Ch. 26The system's hidden function and an idea

Gao Shang discovered the System Shop could add newly created items, considered how to use it to develop powerful Soul Tools and empower ordinary people, and tested the strength of his Fire Release Ninjutsu after recovering. The chapter ended with him rewarding Wang Tianyuan with an extra dish after a successful training session.

  • The system explained that it checked the plane monthly for newly created items, and Gao Shang considered using the shop to enhance prototypes such as pills and mobile phones.
  • The system added Flesh Puppet to the shop, and Gao Shang examined its levels and considered its potential as a vessel for souls or as a basis for powerful robots.
  • After five days of recovery, Gao Shang concluded that empowering ordinary people could help rebalance the continent and support his own plans to earn and spend more money.
  • Gao Shang went to the training ground with Wang Tianyuan and tested his Fire Style: Great Fireball Technique, blasting Wang Tianyuan backward with its power.
  • Gao Shang helped Wang Tianyuan up and promised him an extra dish for the meal.

Ch. 27New member Han Xing, preparing to open a restaurant

Gao Shang comforted Han Xing after the deaths of her parents by giving her hope that she could bring them back, and she began eating again. He then told Hong Hua to invite the Fortune and Prosperity Pavilion’s head chef to test his cooking for a restaurant Gao Shang planned to open.

  • Gao Shang urged Han Xing to eat, but she remained withdrawn after losing her parents.
  • Gao Shang told Han Xing that people could be resurrected by gods and that passing a God Examination could let her inherit a godhood, giving her a goal to pursue.
  • Han Xing sat back down and began eating, while Hong Hua and Sun Meng drew her into the conversation.
  • Gao Shang asked Hong Hua to invite the Fortune and Prosperity Pavilion’s head chef to cook dinner so he could assess him for his planned restaurant.
  • Gao Shang explained that the restaurant would serve dishes made with rare ingredients such as bear paws and moose noses, and Hong Hua left to fetch the chef.

Ch. 28A miraculous Martial Soul, a mutual pursuit

Gao Shang tested an eager head chef, who revealed her Soul Bone disguise and unusual Martial Soul, Wok Hei, which let her cultivate while cooking. After learning why she wanted to work for him, Gao Shang asked her age.

  • The head chef arrived at the Gao residence and agreed to Gao Shang’s ingredient-preparation test for a chance to work for him.
  • Before the test, the head chef asked Gao Shang what he thought of the Star Luo Imperial Family, and he criticized its bloody succession method.
  • The head chef used a Transformation Soul Bone to reveal that she was a woman, then disclosed that she had a Soul Ancestor cultivation rank.
  • She explained that her Wok Hei Martial Soul identified ingredients, improved dishes, and absorbed cooking byproducts to increase her Soul Power.
  • Gao Shang realized that ingredients served as the head chef’s cultivation resources and asked how old she was.

Ch. 29Snow drifting over a volcano, preparing to open a restaurant

Gao Shang tested Shangguan Yun’s knowledge of ingredients, accepted her as a chef, and began planning a restaurant and an expansion of his estate. He left the estate purchases for later after Hong Hua explained that their noble and Soul Master neighbors might refuse to sell.

  • Shangguan Yun told Gao Shang that she had fled the Star Luo Imperial Palace after a consort threatened to kill her over an impossible dish.
  • Shangguan Yun identified all thirty-six ingredients in Gao Shang’s assessment and passed, earning the ingredients.
  • Gao Shang gave Shangguan Yun a food-storage Soul Tool ring and assigned her a room.
  • Gao Shang gave Hong Hua two storage rings, one for her and one for Wang Tianyuan.
  • Gao Shang asked Hong Hua to find a large restaurant site and inquire about buying neighboring houses, but agreed to postpone the house purchases after she explained the obstacles.

Ch. 30Another King of Immortal Herbs and a Unit of Measurement: Sky Dream Ice Silkworm

After a lavish meal, Gao Shang searched the system shop for ways to improve his spiritual power and discovered the exorbitant prices of rare herbs and gold of life. He found a cheaper growing Nine-Leaf Spider Lily, but its leaves contained negative soul power that he would need to remove before using them.

  • Gao Shang reviewed his funds and decided he needed a way to improve his spiritual power beyond his existing combat abilities.
  • Gao Shang found that million-year Leafless Spider Lily, Full Moon Wearing Autumn Dew, and gold of life cost billions of Gold Soul Coins.
  • The system explained that one gram of gold of life held roughly four times the life origin of the continent’s last million-year soul beast, leading Gao Shang to think of Sky Dream Ice Silkworm.
  • Gao Shang learned that Leafless Spider Lily grew beside the Yellow Springs and could trigger Martial Soul Evolution in certain Soul Masters, then wondered whether the world had an Underworld.
  • Gao Shang found that a hundred-year spider lily cost one hundred thousand Gold Soul Coins and that an eleven-year Nine-Leaf Spider Lily offered similar soul energy for just over ten thousand.
  • Gao Shang realized the Nine-Leaf Spider Lily’s leaves contained negative soul power and could not be used until he found a way to remove it.

Ch. 31Buying a Red Spider Lily, Sun Meng's Unexpected Arrival

Gao Shang bought a Red Spider Lily to improve his spiritual power, but Sun Meng arrived after her Martial Soul sensed the flower. He gave it to her to try to evolve her Martial Soul, and she began eating it under his watch.

  • Gao Shang learned that mature Red Spider Lilies could improve spiritual power and bought one for one hundred thousand Gold Soul Coins.
  • As Gao Shang prepared to eat the flower, Sun Meng came to his courtyard because her Martial Soul had grown restless and drawn her there.
  • Gao Shang showed Sun Meng the Red Spider Lily, and her sickle Martial Soul appeared and trembled as she reached toward it.
  • Gao Shang suspected the flower had a mind-bewitching effect and gave Sun Meng a Red Spider Lily, buying another to persuade her to accept it.
  • Sun Meng accepted the flower and began eating it while Gao Shang stood guard.

Ch. 32Ascending to Heaven in One Step, the Ten Thousand Souls Banner

After Sun Meng absorbed the red spider lily, she awakened with Innate Full Soul Power, powerful spiritual energy, and an Innate Domain. She revealed that her evolved Soul-Gathering Scythe could suppress foes and collect the souls of those who died nearby, prompting Gao Shang to compare it to a Ten Thousand Souls Banner.

  • Sun Meng collapsed after swallowing the red spider lily, and Gao Shang carried her to bed and watched over her as she slept for three days.
  • While Sun Meng remained asleep, Gao Shang gave Hong Hua five thousand Gold Soul Coins to buy and clear a restaurant site on Nuoding City's main street.
  • On the morning of the fourth day, Sun Meng's red cocoon released an Innate Domain that weakened Gao Shang before its light withdrew into her.
  • Sun Meng woke, hugged Gao Shang, and told him she had become a Soul Master; after they regrouped, she summoned her evolved Soul-Gathering Scythe.
  • Sun Meng explained that her scythe could deal soul damage, suppress people within an area, and absorb the souls of those who died there, and Gao Shang called it a Ten Thousand Souls Banner.

Ch. 33Two-Tomoe Sharingan, Insight

After helping Sun Meng accept her new Soul-Gathering Scythe, Gao Shang arranged to buy rare whale rubber and consumed a Red Spider Lily himself. The herb evolved his Sharingan into a Two-Tomoe Sharingan with Insight, leaving him able to see Soul Power and its circulation.

  • Gao Shang reassured Sun Meng that her Soul-Gathering Scythe did not make her a Fallen Soul Master as long as she used it responsibly, and warned her to keep her domain secret.
  • Gao Shang gave Wang Tianyuan twenty thousand Gold Soul Coins and instructed him to secretly buy whale rubber over a thousand years old in nearby cities.
  • Gao Shang entered seclusion and swallowed a Red Spider Lily, whose medicinal power flowed into both his Niwan Palace and his eyes.
  • Gao Shang's Sharingan evolved into a Two-Tomoe Sharingan and awakened the Insight ability as his spiritual power reached the Soul Elder level.
  • Gao Shang used Insight to see Soul Power in the air and inside a Polar Ice Phosphorus Shrimp, then laughed at the advantage it would give him in battle.

Ch. 34White Jade Capital, a Million Gold Soul Coins

Gao Shang trained Sun Meng, planned the White Jade Capital organization, and welcomed Wang Tianyuan back with a lucrative batch of whale rubber. The chapter ended with Gao Shang discovering the rubber was worth 1,200,000 Gold Soul Coins.

  • Gao Shang helped Sun Meng improve her cultivation and saber skills, then asked her to support Han Xing and encourage her to rest.
  • Gao Shang told Sun Meng he planned to establish an organization called White Jade Capital.
  • Wang Tianyuan returned with forty pieces of thousand-year whale rubber and agreed to join Gao Shang's organization with Hong Hua.
  • Gao Shang gave Wang Tianyuan a booklet of Taijutsu and saber techniques and instructed him to call him Tower Master.
  • The system valued the whale rubber at 1,200,000 Gold Soul Coins, astonishing Gao Shang.

Ch. 35Eye of Destiny, Destiny Backlash

Gao Shang saved several pieces of whale rubber for Sun Meng and Han Xing, then used most of his proceeds to buy and absorb the Eye of Destiny. He discovered its fortune-related abilities, including Destiny Backlash and Destiny Domination, and tried to remind himself not to become reckless.

  • Gao Shang set aside four high-quality pieces of whale rubber for Sun Meng and Han Xing and recycled the rest for 1,072,000 Gold Soul Coins.
  • Gao Shang spent 1,000,000 Gold Soul Coins on the Eye of Destiny, a hundred-year External Soul Bone linked to the Three-Eyed Golden Lion clan.
  • Gao Shang absorbed the Eye of Destiny and discovered that it gave him a third eye that let him watch in two directions at once.
  • Gao Shang learned that Destiny Detection showed others' fortune and Destiny Backlash made anyone who attacked him suffer misfortune.
  • Gao Shang discovered Destiny Domination could steal or bestow fortune, subject to a three-month cooldown and a limit of half a target's fortune per use.
  • Gao Shang realized Destiny Backlash could devastate his killer and their allies, then repeatedly warned himself not to act recklessly.
