Personality

Dugu Bo values his freedom and initially refuses to join Star Luo because he dislikes being bound to a power. His former service to Heaven Dou arose from gratitude to Prince Xue Xing rather than attachment to the empire 20 22.

He is temperamental, narrow-minded, and guided by personal preference rather than a strict division between good and evil. His reputation includes eliminating enemies thoroughly and having no objection to stronger Soul Masters acting against weaker opponents 20 25.

Despite this ruthlessness, he keeps his promises and insists on repaying kindness. After receiving treatment, he honors his pledge to Star Luo and later makes Dugu Yan apologize to Dai Tianfeng for disrespecting her benefactor 22 26.

His granddaughter’s survival is a central concern. He is willing to risk his life to preserve the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well for them both, and his greatest happiness after treatment is realizing that Dugu Yan can also be saved 21 22.

History

Family Affliction and Heaven Dou Service

The Dugu Family’s Martial Soul poison shortened its members’ lives. Dugu Bo’s only son died from its backlash, while Dugu Bo survived into old age with the help of the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well 20 22 23.

He sought treatment from the previous head of the Nine Heart Begonia lineage, an Eight-Ring Soul Douluo. Although the healer could only ease his symptoms, repeated visits developed into a close friendship. Before dying, the healer entrusted Ye Qingxin and Ye Lingling to Dugu Bo’s care 26 27.

Dugu Bo also became a guest elder of the Heaven Dou Imperial Family after Prince Xue Xing saved his life. At the time of Dai Tianfeng’s visit, he was the imperial family’s only publicly known Titled Douluo 18 20.

Confrontation at the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well

Returning to his valley, Dugu Bo discovers that Dai Tianfeng’s party has stripped the garden bare. He initially suppresses his anger after recognizing Dai Xiu’s strength and the threat posed by the White Tiger and Hell Spirit Cat combination 20.

When Dai Xiu refuses to leave immediately, Dugu Bo interprets their continued presence as a threat to the spring that keeps him and his granddaughter alive. He attacks, but Dai Xiu shatters his Martial Soul Avatar and leaves him injured. Dai Tianfeng’s emergence from the water ends the confrontation before Dugu Bo can use his eighth and ninth Soul Skills 21.

Treatment and Allegiance to Star Luo

Dai Tianfeng proposes recruiting him into Star Luo. Dugu Bo refuses until the prince accurately describes his secret poisoning symptoms and offers a way to transfer the toxins into a Soul Bone 22.

After Dai Xiu completes the transfer, Dugu Bo pledges himself to the Star Luo Imperial Family. Dai Xiu also offers a Thousand-Year poison-attribute Soul Bone from the imperial treasury for Dugu Yan’s treatment. Dugu Bo agrees to fetch his granddaughter before accompanying them to Star Luo, regarding his old debt to Xue Xing as already repaid 22.

The Nine Heart Begonia Recruitment

At Dugu Manor, Dai Tianfeng asks him to help recruit the Nine Heart Begonia lineage. Dugu Bo warns that its longstanding neutrality makes success uncertain. Dai Xiu promises a Ten-Thousand-Year Soul Bone if he succeeds, while Dai Tianfeng raises the possibility of Martial Soul evolution—a prospect Dugu Bo initially doubts 23.

After Dugu Yan’s poison flares up, Dugu Bo confirms Dai Tianfeng’s diagnosis and explains his own treatment. He then urges Ye Qingxin to join Star Luo, warning that his departure will prevent him from continuing to protect her and Ye Lingling in Heaven Dou. He does not force a decision, and she remains undecided 26 27.
