The Overwhelmed Scout Squad
The scout who spotted Siren Head let out a piercing scream.
The other team members all looked over, completely confused.
But when they saw his vacant, horrified gaze fixed on the sky ahead,
they seemed to sense something and all looked up as well.
The sight terrified them all.
A gigantic, lanky creature more than ten meters tall had appeared there without them noticing.
But the creature had two huge siren horns for a head.
They were turning, as if a head were watching them.
The moment their gazes met, the two horns let out a piercing scream.
A feeling of panic immediately surged through them. They had never seen such an eldritch creature!
Siren Head reached out its long, slender arms toward them.
"Open fire! Open fire!"
The scouts suppressed the inexplicable fear in their hearts.
At their captain's roar, which sounded like an attempt to vent his fear, they pulled the triggers of their guns.
The guns fired not bullets but streaks of white light.
Shen Hui guessed they were laser guns.
After all, this wasn't Shen Hui's world, so he couldn't be certain.
The beams struck the trees and melted them outright.
Their power was obvious.
But when they hit Siren Head's body, they were like mud sinking into the sea.
They disappeared without a trace and did no damage at all.
At the same time, the sounds coming from Siren Head's horns grew louder and more grating.
It seemed to be expressing its anger.
The scouts' eardrums began to throb with pain.
Siren Head's long, slender arms ignored the rain of beams and seized one of the scouts.
Its giant hand squeezed gently, crushing the exoskeleton armor.
The person inside was crushed into a pulp.
At that moment, Siren Head's horns began playing a cheerful tune-"Ode to Joy."
But to the scouts, the sound was anything but cheerful.
The deafening volume made their ears start to bleed, and the pain was unbearable.
In the space of a brief moment, several more fighters had died.
The survivors were even more terrified. Without the support of their exoskeletons,
they would surely have collapsed to the ground.
"Retreat! Use the fighter jets to attack!"
The captain, the only one who had retained most of his composure, hurriedly issued the order over the comms.
All the survivors controlled their exoskeletons and began running toward where they had parked the fighter jets.
With their speed, as long as they reached the fighter jets,
they would be safe, whether they chose to attack or flee!
They all began to escape, but Siren Head immediately strode after them on its long, slender legs.
It moved so fast that it caught up just as they had left the Land of New Life.
It followed at a set distance to their left.
And with the Chaos Mist shrouding it, they could only make out the faint outline of Siren Head's huge, slender shadow.
That only added to the mysterious terror, pressing down on their hearts like a mountain.
At the same time, strange music mixed with someone's low voice speaking unintelligibly came from its horns.
Several scouts with weak resolve lost the ability even to control their exoskeletons.
They stopped dead in their tracks.
The other team members had no time to spare for them.
But Siren Head didn't attack those who had stopped.
Instead, it accelerated again, overtook the others, and blocked their path.
They were heading straight for the fighter jets.
There was no doubt about it: Siren Head was stopping them from reaching the jets.
But they couldn't beat Siren Head. To stay alive, they hurriedly changed course.
"Change direction! Run toward that forest!"
The captain quickly gave the order, and all the team members turned around.
They ran toward the forest where Sadako was.
Siren Head stopped in its tracks, and the sounds from its horns ceased.
This was, of course, Shen Hui's doing.
Now Siren Head's strength had been tested.
Against ordinary weapons from a Level Two technological world, Siren Head was completely immune.
It could also crush them outright in a fight.
Of course, those were only ordinary weapons.
The technological world's ultimate weapons were all kinds of missiles.
But this technological world seemed quite advanced.
That was all due to the original world owner's deliberate creations.
It hadn't developed naturally, so there were gaps in its technological progress.
That was one of the reasons the technological world was so powerful in its early stages.
Terrifying weapons like nuclear bombs were basically nonexistent, and they lacked the resources to create them.
They generally couldn't be made until worlds reached Level Four.
So Shen Hui's world didn't need to worry about a nuclear explosion.
But the other powerful missiles would still be more than enough to cause trouble.
Even repairing the terrain after the damage would consume a great deal of World Origin Power.
So Shen Hui naturally wouldn't let this scout squad simply return.
Otherwise, they might bring missiles down on the whole place, and then there'd be no use crying over it.
Besides, Shen Hui already had a way to deal with them.
It was Sadako, who was specifically suited to a technological world.
The ability she possessed was the Electronic Curse!
Shen Hui had already devised a perfect plan to dismantle that technological city from within.
The scout squad ran all the way to the forest where Sadako was.
Only then did they realize Siren Head had disappeared.
They looked behind them and saw nothing. That oppressive fear had indeed vanished.
"But what surged into them now was an indescribable, deeper fear."
It wasn't strong, though, and the captain didn't even notice the slight unease in his heart.
"There's something strange about this forest, but for safety's sake, we shouldn't enter it lightly."
"We'll rest here and think of a plan. Maybe we can lure that giant monster away."
The captain still didn't order them to enter the Deadwood Forest.
But this didn't disrupt Shen Hui's plan.
Because Shen Hui had never intended for Sadako to meet this group.
The one who would act next should be the Pig-headed Butcher!
After sitting on the ground and resting for a while, the scouts didn't feel much better.
Instead, they grew more restless, and their nerves became even more taut.
The captain sensed that something was wrong.
"There's something wrong with the air here. Let's go. We shouldn't rest here!"
But just as they got to their feet, snorting sounds suddenly came from all around them.
In the Chaos Mist surrounding them, a ring of blue light appeared, encircling them.
All the scouts tensed up once more.
Something else was coming!
