Background / History

Sun Family upbringing

Sun Jiangman grew up in the Land of Heaven and Earth as the Sun Family’s eldest daughter. She describes her family as middle-tier: not among the great families, but substantial enough to offer Gu Chen shelter from enemies in the outside world 148 162 164 169.

At the previous Aristocratic Family Assembly, five years earlier, she placed somewhere in the sixties. For the next assembly, her family tasked her with reaching the Tiger Ranking’s top ten to secure cultivation resources 169.

Xiaoxiang Peak rescue

While traveling toward Tong City, Sun Jiangman received a visit from an unknown woman who gave her a pendant and told her that going to Xiaoxiang Peak would benefit the Sun Family. She later left her camp to investigate the area 148 169.

There, she encountered Gu Chen under attack at a noodle stall. Although initially reluctant to become involved in a possible gang dispute, she felt an inexplicable attraction toward him and intervened. Carrying him through alleys and across rooftops, she killed several Venomous Snake Gang gunmen, three snipers, and the scar-faced leader of the Five Tyrant Snakes 148 149.

She cut through the gang’s blockade with her short blade and escaped into the forest, sustaining a gunshot wound to her lower leg. Gu Chen treated it with ointment and secretly supplied true qi, restoring almost all of the limb’s strength within minutes 150 151.

Demonic beasts and Gu Chen’s deception

After an attempted forest ambush failed against the gang’s superior firepower, Sun Jiangman and Gu Chen fled deeper into the woods. A Three-Eyed Ape struck her and later immobilized her with a spiritual attack; Gu Chen killed it before it could finish attacking her 151 152.

Sun Jiangman was then poisoned by a Kui Spirit Snake. Gu Chen used the snake’s egg to counteract the venom, but the treatment triggered an aphrodisiac reaction. They had intercourse while she was affected, which Gu Chen believed was necessary to save her life. Afterward, she accused him of violating her and demanded to know why he had concealed his strength 153 154.

Gu Chen discovered the Pendant of the Luo River Goddess among her belongings and questioned her about its origin. When she remained furious, he overwhelmed her and sealed her acupoints, rendering her unconscious. He dressed her and left a protective formation around her before exploring a nearby cave 153 155.

During his absence, the Venomous Snake Gang used the weakened Sun Jiangman as bait. She warned Gu Chen to flee when he returned, but he instead destroyed the gang. He then falsely claimed that sleeping with her—and subsequently using his remaining strength to rescue her—had cost him his cultivation. Unable to detect Inner Breath in his dantian, she believed him 162 163.

Journey toward Tong City

After Gu Chen promised to take responsibility for her, Sun Jiangman invited him to the Land of Heaven and Earth for protection. When her brother Sun Da questioned why she was wearing Gu Chen’s clothes, she impulsively called Gu Chen his “brother-in-law” 164.

Believing Gu Chen powerless, she repeatedly defended him from Sun Da. She demanded an apology after her brother punched him, separated them in the SUV, and later expelled Sun Da from their hotel room after another attempted attack 165 166.

Sun Jiangman eventually explained how she had received the pendant. Gu Chen concluded that its giver was his former master, Luo Yunxi, and exchanged a stalk of Shennong Grass for it 169.

On the road to Tong City, Wuji Manor assassins ambushed the Sun Family’s party. Sun Jiangman initially fought five Bone-Forge Realm opponents, then worked with Sun Da—who was receiving Gu Chen’s guidance—to overcome them and assist the family’s servants. Afterward, she rejected Uncle Ma’s suspicion that Gu Chen had exposed their itinerary 170 171 173.

When Gu Chen departed by train to settle business in Zhou City, she watched him leave with the Shennong Grass in her hand and whispered that she would wait for him 173.

Aristocratic Family Assembly

Sun Jiangman delayed ascending Leisurely Mountain because she was waiting for Gu Chen. Before their reunion, Kang Zuoqing injured Sun Da and provoked a confrontation with the Sun Family. Gu Chen arrived and intervened, but his display of power exposed his earlier deception; Sun Jiangman called him a liar and initially refused to forgive him 218 219 220.

Despite her anger, she continued watching him during the gathering. When Tang Miaomiao showed interest in him, Sun Jiangman publicly declared that Gu Chen was her man. This angered Cao Miao, whose childhood connection with her had led many people to expect their eventual marriage 226.

Gu Chen rejected Tang Miaomiao and left with Sun Jiangman. In private, she confronted him about his lies, and he admitted that he had feared losing her. They reconciled, though she worried that offending Cao Miao would bring criticism from her family 227.

During the Starfall Cliff contest, Gu Chen cleared the way for Sun Jiangman to ascend. Zhuge Wangyue interrupted her climb by attacking him; she rushed back down to help but was stopped. She ultimately placed eighth on the Tiger Ranking, though Gu Chen’s expulsion from the mountain overshadowed her excitement about the assembly’s rewards 238 245.

Appearance

Sun Jiangman is repeatedly described as exceptionally beautiful, with a shapely figure and a complexion that appears flawless in the morning light 150 153 164.

  • Hair: Long enough to tie back with a strip torn from her clothing before close combat 149.
  • Clothing: Wears leather pants during the Xiaoxiang Peak pursuit and carries a short blade behind them 149.
  • Bearing: Commonly maintains a cold expression, though Gu Chen’s teasing frequently makes her blush 149 165 173.

Personality

Sun Jiangman is proud, guarded, and accustomed to asserting authority. She initially refuses to give Gu Chen her name, dislikes his unwanted physical contact, and has previously rejected numerous young masters from martial families. Her brother also describes her as having an obsession with cleanliness 148 149 164 165.

She is decisive and unsentimental in combat. She kills armed pursuers without hesitation and later helps clear corpses from the roadside battlefield with the composure of an experienced fighter. Nevertheless, she can accept practical advice: despite doubting Gu Chen’s strength, she recognizes his clear thinking during their escape 149 151 173.

Her protectiveness extends to both Gu Chen and Sun Da. She disciplines her brother harshly when he attacks Gu Chen, but immediately tends to Sun Da after Kang Zuoqing injures him. Her feelings for Gu Chen also expose a more vulnerable side, including jealousy toward Tang Miaomiao and anxiety about her family’s reaction to their relationship 165 166 218 226 227.

Abilities & Skills

Hidden-Weapon Throwing

Sun Jiangman uses six-pointed darts with lethal accuracy against armed opponents 148 149.

  • Pierces a sniper’s metal helmet with a dart thrown from roughly ten meters away 149.
  • Eliminates three rooftop snipers within about a minute after locating them 149.
  • Adapts Gu Chen’s acupuncture needles into thrown weapons during the forest ambush 151.

Short-Blade Combat

Her blade work combines rapid movement with clean, lethal strikes 150 171.

  • Kills six or seven gang members in quick succession while carrying Gu Chen 150.
  • Cuts an escape route through a group of armed attackers 150.
  • Finishes the remaining assassins in her group after Sun Da helps reduce their numbers 171.

Sun Family Fist Techniques

Sun Jiangman can bring out the full power of her family’s unarmed martial techniques, earning Gu Chen’s praise 170.

  • Initially holds five Bone-Forge Realm assassins at a distance with forceful punches 170.
  • Coordinates with Sun Da’s supporting attacks once he joins the fight 171.

Movement, Senses, and Inner Breath

Her martial training provides exceptional mobility and control over Inner Breath 149 150.

  • Traverses rooftops and forest terrain at high speed while carrying another person 149 150.
  • Locates an opponent by sound; she does not possess a cultivator’s Divine Sense 149.
  • Uses Inner Breath to expel a lodged bullet and stop the bleeding 150.
  • Transfers Inner Breath into Sun Da after Kang Zuoqing injures him 218.

Limitations

  • Firearms: Her speed allows her to evade gunfire, but she is not bulletproof; sniper fire and concentrated guns and explosives pose lethal threats 149 150 151 162.
  • Spiritual attacks: The Three-Eyed Ape immobilizes her through an attack that her Bone-Forge Realm strength cannot counter 152.
  • Venom and exhaustion: The Kui Spirit Snake’s poison quickly incapacitates her after prolonged fighting has depleted her Inner Breath 153.

Equipment / Items

  • Six-pointed darts: Her regular ranged weapons during the Xiaoxiang Peak escape 148 151.
  • Short blade: Carried behind her leather pants; used against gang members, demonic beasts, and Wuji Manor assassins 149 152 171.
  • Acupuncture needles: Temporarily supplied by Gu Chen for the forest ambush; she initially mistakes them for purpose-built hidden weapons 151.
  • Pendant of the Luo River Goddess: A crescent-shaped pendant engraved with “Luo,” given to her by an unknown woman whom Gu Chen identifies as Luo Yunxi. She later exchanges it with him 153 169.
  • Shennong Grass: Receives one stalk from Gu Chen in exchange for the pendant; still holds it when seeing him off at the train station 169 173.
