The weight of the truth
Faced with Li Jun's seemingly flawed but actually meticulously crafted explanation that skirted the edge of the law at every turn, the two police officers were furious but helpless for the time being.
They questioned him repeatedly about several details, and Li Jun answered fluently, either claiming he didn't remember or completely shirking responsibility. The core message was always the same: I am the creditor, I went to the hospital to verify the situation, the large number of people was a spontaneous act by employees, and I didn't know the person with the knife.
Without a warrant for arrest, the information that could be obtained from on-site questioning was limited. Based solely on the indirect evidence currently available, which could be used as an excuse by the other party, it was indeed impossible to take coercive measures against Li Jun. The lead police officer (Captain Li) closed his notebook with a gloomy expression.
"Li Jun," he stood up, his tone stern as he warned, "We will continue to investigate this matter. Do not leave the city in the near future, keep your communication channels open, and cooperate fully with our follow-up investigation."
"Don't worry, don't worry, officer!" Li Jun stood up, a smile plastered on his face, and patted his chest to assure him, "I, Li Jun, am the most law-abiding citizen. I'll be there whenever you call, cooperating with the police without hesitation!"
Watching the police officers leave the private room with a hint of reluctance and helplessness, Li Jun's smile slowly faded, and he reverted to his usual nonchalant demeanor. He sat back down in his chair and let out a long sigh.
A short while later, Lawyer Zhou and Monkey returned to the private room. Monkey still looked tense, while Lawyer Zhou remained calm.
"It's alright, we've managed to handle it for now." Li Jun nodded to Lawyer Zhou, then called to the waiter, "Come on, everyone, we didn't eat well earlier, let's order a few more dishes, let's eat while we wait for news."
He tried to create a relaxed atmosphere, but the Monkey's mind was clearly elsewhere. He lost his appetite, kept checking his phone, and anxiously awaited his sister's test results.
In the afternoon, things unfolded exactly as Li Jun had predicted. The two young thugs who had brandished machetes in public voluntarily surrendered themselves to the Changyang Police Station. The police verified their identities, confirming that they were young, had a high level of legal resistance, and had no prior criminal record.
Considering that although their actions had serious consequences (threatening others with a controlled knife in a public place), no actual personal injury or property damage was caused, and that the two individuals showed "good" remorse and that this was their first violation of public order, the police ultimately gave them a stern verbal reprimand and fined them in accordance with the law. They then contacted their guardians to complete the necessary procedures and take them home. Legally, this matter seems to have been confined to a manageable scope.
On the other hand, the atmosphere was completely different in the examination room of a top-tier provincial hospital.
After a series of extremely detailed and repeated checks, the final report was finally released.
Professor Liu Mingyuan, holding the heavy report, solemnly found the Monkey pacing back and forth in the corridor like a trapped beast, and Monkey parents, who had rushed over upon hearing the news, their faces filled with anticipation and fear.
"Hou Jun, Mr. Hou, Mrs. Hou," Professor Liu's voice was deep and clear, and he tried to keep his tone steady, "Xiaoya's comprehensive medical examination results... are in."
The Monkey and his parents' hearts jumped into their throats, their three pairs of eyes fixed on Professor Liu.
"First, there's some... relatively good news." Professor Liu paused, noticing the sudden brightness in the Monkey family's eyes, and slowly said, "Based on our most authoritative pathological analysis and whole-body imaging scan results, we can definitively determine that Xiaoya does not have lymphoma."
No cancer!
These words were like a giant bolt of lightning, splitting the long-standing cloud of death that had hung over this family!
The Monkey's mother's legs went weak and she almost collapsed, but her husband beside her held her up tightly, and both of them instantly burst into tears.
However, Professor Liu's next words shattered this newly formed joy, replacing it with a deeper chill and anger.
"However," Professor Liu's voice was heavy as lead, "Because Xiaoya underwent multiple unnecessary chemotherapy and drug treatments for cancer at Ankang Hospital over the past period, her body has suffered severe iatrogenic damage."
He pointed to the data in the report, explaining each item one by one; every word was like a cold knife.
"Her liver function indicators were severely abnormal, her digestive system was disordered, and her kidney function had also suffered varying degrees of damage."
"Multiple rounds of chemotherapy have caused a sharp decrease in her white blood cell and platelet counts, resulting in obvious symptoms of anemia and extremely low immunity."
"And what's most shocking and unacceptable," Professor Liu's voice was filled with barely suppressed anger, "Is that we detected dangerously high concentrations of long-acting anesthetic drugs in her blood and body! This directly confirms that her previous 'coma' and 'critical condition' were entirely a deliberate illusion created by drugs!"
No cancer...
Instead, they were treated as if they had cancer, and suffered pain and harm that they should not have had to endure!
They might even have been deliberately anesthetized to create the illusion of being critically ill!
This is more despairing and infuriating than a cancer diagnosis!
The Monkey stood there, stunned, clutching the report, which felt light yet weighed a ton. His expression shifted from initial shock to bewilderment, and finally to uncontrollable, twisted pain.
"Ah--!!!"
He let out a beastly, inhuman roar, as if all his bones and strength had been instantly drained from his body. He collapsed to his knees with a thud. The report slipped from his hands and fluttered to the ground.
He didn't pick it up; instead, he covered his face tightly with his hands, his shoulders convulsing violently. The fear, grievances, helplessness, and the overwhelming anger and lingering fear that had been suppressed for so long erupted like a volcano, turning into a heart-wrenching wail that echoed through the hospital corridor.
He didn't know how he was feeling at that moment.
Are we relieved that our sister didn't have that terrible terminal illness?
Or do I still hate that hospital called "Ankang" for being so heartless and cruel, so outrageously cruel, turning a healthy young girl into this state?
A mixture of immense relief and even greater rage nearly tore his soul apart.
The cries echoed in the empty corridor, filled with endless sorrow and accusation.
