The Master of Changing Faces Appears

Lu Yiyi's bedroom door wasn't locked. A gentle turn of the handle was enough to open it.

After finishing her dried shrimp, Ruanruan was lying contentedly on her mat and stretching when the light suddenly changed. Had someone come in?

She turned to look and saw Lu Linfeng.

Why had he come into Yiyi's room?

The thought had barely crossed Ruanruan's mind when her body reacted faster than her brain. She instinctively bolted, crying out as she ran.

"Meow, meow, meow-"

Lu Linfeng clearly hadn't expected a tiny kitten to be so nimble, especially when she had been so docile downstairs just now. When she suddenly started yowling, he quickly shut the door and followed step by step in the direction she had run.

Ruanruan fled blindly in panic and ended up diving under the bed.

Animal instinct made her a little afraid of Lu Linfeng. He always made her feel uneasy, and the way he looked at her was unsettling too, as though he were looking at an inanimate object.

"Meow-meow-" Ruanruan didn't know whether anyone could hear her. In any case, she didn't want to get anywhere near Lu Linfeng.

She watched Lu Linfeng's feet draw closer and closer. Then, like something out of a horror movie, he suddenly crouched down and peered at her under the bed. Ruanruan backed away again and again in fright, terrified that he would reach out and grab her.

How could a tiny kitten possibly escape an adult human trying to catch her?

Using a tool, he easily scooped Ruanruan out from under the bed.

Lu Linfeng smiled at her. "I caught you in the end... If you want to blame someone, blame yourself for being his cat." He rubbed her head.

"Meow..." Ruanruan trembled all over. No way. Had she run into a perverted cat abuser?

Was her little life over?

Was I going to croak before I was even two months old?

Lu Linfeng was holding Ruanruan and about to step toward the window when Lu Yiyi's bedroom door suddenly opened again.

Lu Linyuan stood in the doorway, his gaze chilling.

"What are you doing?" His voice was cold.

Lu Linfeng immediately smiled and said, "What brings you here too, big brother? Did you hear her crying as well? I suddenly heard meowing upstairs just now, so I came up to take a look. I found her in Yiyi's room and was just about to carry her out when you arrived." With that, he walked over and handed the cat to Lu Linyuan as naturally as if that were what he had intended to do all along.

Ruanruan was so frightened by this master of changing faces that she kept mewling. Even after Lu Linyuan took her, she couldn't stop trembling. The poor little thing had clearly had quite a scare.

This bastard's a pervert, isn't he? Just now he looked like he was about to throw me out the window, and the moment he sees Lu Linyuan, he lies through his teeth. I didn't make a single sound before he came into the room!

Lu Linyuan ran his hands over Ruanruan's body and said without looking at Lu Linfeng, "That had better be true." Then he turned and walked away.

When Ruanruan saw Lu Linyuan, it was as if she had seen the parents who had given her a second life. Her eyes filled with tears of excitement. Boo-hoo, I almost thought I was done for. Thank goodness you came in time, young master, or I really would've been a goner. Boo-hoo. Ruanruan rubbed frantically against Lu Linyuan's chest as she trembled.

Lu Linfeng followed him and said, as though he hadn't understood, "What do you mean, second brother?"

Lu Linyuan couldn't be bothered to answer and strode downstairs. Once he reached the first floor, he didn't hand Ruanruan to a servant, but took her straight to the dining room.

When Grandma Lu saw Lu Linyuan carrying the cat over, she asked, a little puzzled, "Why did you bring her back here?"

After sitting down, Lu Linyuan stroked the fur on Ruanruan's back and explained, "It's her first time here, and she isn't familiar with the place, so she's a little scared. I'll hold her for a while so she doesn't get stressed. Kittens get stressed very easily in new surroundings."

Grandma Lu nodded. "I think I've heard your Grandma Sun mention that. She has several cats at home too. Cats are delicate creatures and need careful looking after, so go ahead and hold her. Is she trembling because she's scared?"

"Mm."

"Poor little thing," Grandma Lu said sympathetically.

Hearing that, Lu Yiyi said apologetically, "I forgot it was her first time coming here and didn't think of that. I thought she could play or sleep in my room for a while after eating, which would be more comfortable than staying in her cage. I forgot she might have trouble adjusting on her first visit to the old residence." No matter how big a cage was, it was still a cage.

Ruanruan wanted very much to say that it wasn't her fault at all and she didn't need to apologize. She really could have had a lovely nap, if not for that guy. With Lu Linyuan as her backer, Ruanruan recovered and immediately glared fiercely at Lu Linfeng as he took his seat.

It's all that face-changing master's fault. He's the one who scared me!

"Meow-" Ruanruan hissed at Lu Linfeng several times, her fur bristling until she looked like a giant fluffball.

Lu Yiyi had only ever seen Ruanruan's sweet, adorable side. When she suddenly saw her bristling at Lu Linfeng, she said in surprise, "Brother Linfeng, did you upset Ruanruan? Why is she looking at you like you're her enemy?"

Lu Linfeng paused, glanced at Ruanruan, and said to Lu Yiyi, "Cats and dogs never seem to like me." His face was full of resignation.
