His Precious Daughter Was a Little Rascal
Ever since his daughter came into his life, Lin Yi felt that time flew by.
He hadn't done much of anything, and it was already afternoon.
Ever since the baby finished her milk, she had stayed nestled in Lin Yi's arms. Zhang Meilan, standing beside them, felt unimportant for the first time.
"Cough, cough~"
"Cough, cough~"
The little one had been playing happily when she suddenly started coughing, and Lin Yi immediately tensed up.
"Meilan, why did my daughter suddenly start coughing?"
"Brother Lin, let me check the little one first."
Zhang Meilan came over to the baby and felt her little forehead. Her temperature was just right.
It had also been a long time since she'd been fed, so they could rule out her having choked on her milk.
The routine checks showed nothing wrong. To determine the cause, they could only go to the hospital for an examination.
"Brother Lin, the baby doesn't have a cold or a fever."
"We'll have to go to the hospital for tests to find out the exact cause."
"Then let's go, quickly."
Lin Yi's heart was burning with anxiety, and his heart ached for his precious daughter. He wished he could take all her suffering upon himself.
Although the little one kept coughing, there was a certain rhythm to it.
After Lin Yi brought the car around, Zhang Meilan held the little one, and the two of them drove straight to Anhe Hospital without stopping.
In the car, Lin Yi called Director Zhang.
"Old Zhang, my daughter won't stop coughing. Arrange the relevant tests for her."
"I'll be there right away."
"Of course, young master."
After hanging up, Zhang He personally called each department to make sure the young miss could be examined and treated as soon as possible.
Lin Yi soon arrived at the hospital. After parking the car, he carried the little one inside at a run.
The director was waiting in the hospital lobby with a group of medical staff.
When Zhang He saw Lin Yi, he hurried over and said, "Young master, please follow me."
With Zhang He leading the way, the little one underwent every test she could, but even so, she wouldn't stop coughing.
Lin Yi looked at his daughter in his arms, her throat growing a little hoarse from coughing, and felt miserable.
The pain was in the baby's body, but Lin Yi felt it in his heart.
Though the others didn't know who Lin Yi was, they saw how respectfully the director treated him and didn't dare slack off, so every department rushed its test reports.
Half an hour later, all the test reports were ready.
They brought the results to Lin Yi and each gave their report. "My report shows nothing wrong."
"Mine too."
"Mine too."
"..."
All the staff gave the same answer in unison, which made Lin Yi a little angry. If nothing was wrong, why wouldn't the little one stop coughing?
The little one's face was red all over from coughing, and Lin Yi's eyes filled with heartache at the sight.
Zhang He could see that Lin Yi was very dissatisfied. He stepped forward and said, "Young master, I'll arrange a consultation with specialists immediately. The young miss will be all right."
"Mm." At this point, that was all they could do. Lin Yi knew full well that losing his temper wouldn't solve anything.
The medical staff put the reports on the table and left dejectedly.
Sitting in a chair, Lin Yi gently comforted the little one. "Be good, baby. Bear with it a little longer."
The little one ignored him, waving her little hands as she reached for the test reports on the table.
Unable to reach the reports, she frowned deeply, looking unhappy. She tried several times on her own and finally got hold of them.
Then something miraculous happened. Once she had the reports, the little one stopped coughing. (This really happened to a real person; it isn't exaggerated.)
Instead, she waved the reports back and forth in her hand.
"Rustle~"
"Yah~"
"Mmm~"
Zhang Meilan noticed in surprise. "Huh? Brother Lin, the baby seems to have stopped coughing."
After watching her for a while, Lin Yi saw that the baby really had stopped coughing. The weight hanging over his heart finally lifted.
In that short time, Lin Yi's mood had been on a roller coaster. Fortunately, the little one was all right.
Right then, Zhang He came trotting over to Lin Yi and said, out of breath, "Young... young master, the specialists... are arranged."
"They're on their way here."
"There's no need. Tell them all to go back. My daughter's stopped coughing."
"Hm?" Zhang He was taken aback. That could happen? He promptly replied, "Of course, young master."
With no other choice, Zhang He had to call the specialists again and tell them to head back.
Seeing that the baby was safe and sound, Zhang Meilan felt a little guilty.
"Brother Lin, I'm sorry. I didn't take good care of the baby."
"It's not your fault. My daughter's too much of a rascal."
Lin Yi comforted her with a smile. There probably wasn't a child in the world more mischievous than his daughter.
"Ring, ring. Ring, ring."
The phone in his trouser pocket rang. Lin Yi took it out and saw that it was a video call from his mom.
Judging by the time, Jiang Yuehua should have arrived in the Imperial Capital. Lin Yi had previously asked his mom to fly there from Magic City and let him know she was safe once she got home.
When he answered, Jiang Yuehua was lying comfortably on the sofa.
"Son, Mom's home."
"Huh? You're not at home? Where did you go?"
"You little brat, don't you know what your situation is? And you're still running around outside! Don't think you can slack off just because you hired someone."
"If you don't take good care of my granddaughter, I'll break your dog legs."
Jiang Yuehua immediately unleashed a torrent of scolding on Lin Yi. Poor Lin Yi was unfairly reprimanded by his mom just like that.
To put out his mom's anger, Lin Yi spoke up aggrievedly.
"Your precious granddaughter wouldn't stop coughing just now, so I brought her to the hospital for tests."
"What? Why didn't you tell me sooner about something so important?"
"Old Wang, get the pilot. We're going to Magic City," Jiang Yuehua said anxiously.
Seeing his mom preparing to fly over, Lin Yi hurriedly stopped her. "Mom, the little one's fine now. You don't need to come all this way."
"You little brat, why didn't you say so sooner?"
"Mom, you didn't give me a chance just now." Lin Yi pursed his lips and spoke helplessly.
"Let me see my precious granddaughter, quickly."
"Fine. The little one's your real granddaughter, and I'm just an afterthought of a son." Lin Yi grumbled, then showed her the baby's little face.
"Baby, I'm Grandma!"
"Say Grandma."
"Rustle~"
"Mmm~"
The little one babbled. Though Jiang Yuehua didn't know what she was saying, she was delighted to see her respond.
"All right, hurry home."
Jiang Yuehua didn't keep them any longer. Seeing that the baby was fine put her mind at ease.
"Mm, okay."
After hanging up, Lin Yi and the others returned home.
After being jostled along the way, and with the little one tired from all the coughing earlier, she fell asleep before long.
After Lin Yi parked the car, Zhang Meilan carried the little one into Lin Yi's bedroom and laid her down.
"Gurgle, gurgle."
It was already past two in the afternoon. Zhang Meilan hadn't eaten breakfast or lunch, and her stomach had begun to protest.
Hearing the sound, Lin Yi glanced at the clock on the wall and only then noticed it was past noon. Embarrassed, he said, "Meilan, you must be starving."
"No, no."
As soon as she said that, Zhang Meilan's stomach rumbled again. It was so loud that Lin Yi heard it too.
P.S. Something urgent came up over the past two days, so I didn't post any chapters. I hope everyone will forgive me. Updates will be regular from here on.
