For the Babies' Safety, I'll Sleep with You Tonight

Lin Yi seemed to have a pair of x-ray eyes that could see the babies' acupoints. Next time he massaged their feet, he would surely be even more adept.

When Su Wanqing still hadn't come out, Lin Yi grew a little worried. He surrounded the two little ones with pillows and walked to the doorway, looking back into the room and then toward the bathroom. "Honey, are you all right?"

"I... I'm fine."

Su Wanqing spoke awkwardly. Her stomach hurt, so she had spent a little longer squatting on the toilet.

Relieved that his wife was all right, Lin Yi relaxed. Much later, Su Wanqing came into the bedroom with her legs numb and sat beside the little ones.

"Tangtang's asleep too."

"Yeah, our sweet daughter sleeps a lot every day."

"Um... how many spare rooms do you have?"

Su Wanqing looked at Lin Yi and asked quietly. Although the two of them already had children together, she subconsciously felt that sleeping in the same bed was just too...

"The upstairs is empty. What's wrong? Don't tell me you want a room to yourself?" Lin Yi asked in confusion.

Su Wanqing nodded. At worst, she would take care of both children by herself. She could put up with being a little more tired.

But Lin Yi flatly refused. "No, I don't agree. What if you sleep too deeply at night and something happens to the babies?"

"Don't worry. As long as you don't agree, I won't lay a finger on you."

"For the children's safety, listen to me."

"At worst, I can sleep on the floor, all right?"

Lin Yi frowned deeply as he asked Su Wanqing in earnest.

After thinking for a moment, Su Wanqing felt that Lin Yi had a point. The children's safety should come first.

"Then... all right. But don't sleep on the floor. It's cold down there."

"I knew my wife treated me best! Then can I get into bed and hold you while we sleep tonight?"

"No. You sleep on the left, and I'll sleep on the right. That way, the babies won't fall off the bed."

Su Wanqing pursed her lips in thought, her mind full of worries. I wonder if I talk in my sleep, or grind my teeth and snore. Will he find me unattractive?

Outside, Zhang Meilan had finished cooking and came to the door to call them.

Seeing Su Wanqing lost in thought, Lin Yi waved a hand in front of her. "Honey, stop overthinking. Go eat."

"What about you? Aren't you eating?"

"I'll eat in a little while. You didn't have lunch, after all. I had Meilan make some food that'll help you feel better."

"Oh."

Su Wanqing nodded, then turned back to Lin Yi. "Thank you."

"It's nothing. You're my wife, after all."

Lin Yi answered with a grin. He was taking advantage of Su Wanqing both openly and subtly, but it was only a matter of time before she became his wife. He was just calling her that early to get used to it.

Seeing how Lin Yi cared for her, Su Wanqing no longer minded him calling her his wife. It even seemed rather nice. She felt she should observe him a little longer, and if she thought well of him, she would give him a chance.

When Su Wanqing reached the dining room, Zhang Meilan had already brought the dishes and soups to the table. Seeing Su Wanqing come out alone, she prepared to go in and relieve Lin Yi so he could come out, but Su Wanqing stopped her.

"Meilan, Brother Lin isn't very hungry yet. Let's eat first."

"All right." This had happened before, so Zhang Meilan nodded in agreement. But instead of sitting at the table, she picked up some food and prepared to eat in the kitchen.

"Meilan, eat at the table with me. We don't have so many rules here."

Su Wanqing smiled as she spoke. Judging by Lin Yi's actions, she thought he felt the same way.

"Oh."

As they ate, Su Wanqing asked Meilan about Lin Yi. "Um... what kind of person do you think Brother Lin is?"

Zhang Meilan lowered her head and thought for a moment before replying, "He's a good person, conscientious and responsible. He's great at taking care of the babies. He's a good father."

"Last night, Tangtang kept crying, and Brother Lin anxiously took her to the hospital. He was scared out of his wits, but it turned out Tangtang was just playing with us."

"And last night, Brother Lin volunteered to take care of Tangtang all night. I've never seen such a conscientious, responsible father."

"Oh, so that's what happened."

Su Wanqing answered softly. She hadn't expected Lin Yi to have done so much for his daughter. It seemed she didn't know her well enough. She felt Lin Yi would surely be a good father, a good husband, a good hubby.

Back at school, Su Wanqing had actually noticed this cool upperclassman. At the time, she had only thought him handsome. Now she realized that Lin Yi had more than a handsome face; he also had a pure soul.

After eating, Su Wanqing returned to the bedroom. Seeing that his attention was entirely on his daughter and son, she smiled. "Go eat, or the food will get cold."

"Okay."

Seeing his wife care about him, Lin Yi trotted happily out of the room. He didn't know why, but he felt Su Wanqing's attitude toward him had improved somewhat. It seemed he had to keep working at it.

It was already late at night. Under the same roof as a grown man, Su Wanqing felt a little embarrassed to go to sleep. She shook her head and told herself not to sleep.

Seeing that Su Wanqing was so sleepy she could barely keep her eyes open, Lin Yi reassured her. "Honey, don't worry. Go to sleep. I'll take care of the babies."

"Then... thank you for the effort."

She had stayed up very late the night before and was now too sleepy to keep going. The moment she lay down, she fell asleep.

Lin Yi considerately turned off the bedroom light, then went to Su Wanqing's side and tucked her in.

Then he heard her murmuring. He leaned closer and heard her say, "Dabao, Mommy will pat you to sleep."

"Sweet girl, don't cry. Mommy will feed you~"

With that, Su Wanqing pulled down the blanket, lifted her clothes and exposed her milk supply.

At the sudden glimpse of her charms, Lin Yi froze. His wife was testing him! Fortunately, he had enough self-control not to make a mistake.

Then, worried that his wife would be too embarrassed when she woke up, Lin Yi wanted to tuck her milk supply back in, but he found he didn't know where to start. In the end, he could only pull her clothes down and cover her with the blanket.

Looking at the sleeping Su Wanqing, Lin Yi smiled helplessly. "Babies, you must be filial to your mommy when you grow up, because she thinks about you even in her dreams."

"And remember your daddy when you grow up too. Don't go thinking about pulling out Daddy's oxygen tube."

"Hoo~"

"Giggle~"

"Eh~"

Tangtang waved her little arms and, perhaps because she moved too much, bumped into Dabao.

But Dabao was sleeping soundly and didn't wake up.

Looking at the one adult and two little ones on the bed, Lin Yi finally understood the true meaning of life: a wife and children gathered around a warm kang.

In the bedroom across the hall on the first floor, Zhang Meilan was too bored to sleep because she didn't have to watch the babies that night. For the first time, she felt so useless.

Bored out of her mind, she resorted to the most primitive method: counting sheep. "One sheep, two sheep, three sheep..."
