Congratulations, You're the Lucky One
On the 28th floor of the Chenmei Building, Hu Hailin sat on a sofa, leisurely picking up a teacup and taking a sip.
"Beep, beep~"
The phone on the tea table suddenly sounded, and he picked it up with displeasure and checked it.
He had only just relaxed for a little while before something came knocking. Hu Hailin's face was full of impatience.
When he saw that the message was from Lin Yi, he forcibly swallowed the curse that was about to leave his mouth.
After reading the message carefully, Hu Hailin hurriedly replied.
But he was a little puzzled by what the message said. Lin Yi had actually asked him to deliver a bridal veil to the Civil Affairs Bureau. Could he be registering his marriage?
Without time to think further, Hu Hailin searched for a bridal shop near the company. Fortunately, there was one about a kilometer away.
Once he had checked the address, he set off without stopping.
Hu Hailin would never have dreamed that he would end up running errands.
Although the weather in Magic City was hot today, it could not melt the soon-to-be-wed couples' resolve to join hands.
Watching more and more young couples arrive to register their marriages, Lin Yi couldn't help grumbling, "What's so special about today?"
"Could it be an auspicious day that only comes once in a hundred years?"
Just as they were wondering, a soon-to-be-wed couple ahead of them turned around to explain. "Young man, today is May 20."
"Hm? What's special about May 20?"
Lin Yi was a little puzzled. Wasn't it just an ordinary day? Was there something special about it?
Seeing that Lin Yi didn't know, the bespectacled man ahead of him launched into an elaborate explanation. "May 20 sounds like 'I love you.'"
"What a wonderful day."
"My girlfriend and I chose today especially to get our marriage certificate."
"Oh."
Lin Yi nodded, looking like a man with a narrow outlook. It seemed he knew too little.
Seeing that Lin Yi was as dense as a block of elm wood, the man said in his ear, "Brother, I've been around the block. Women all like romance, so you have to give them surprises."
"Mm-hmm."
Lin Yi answered softly. He and Su Wanqing had never dated; they had started straight with babies.
The bespectacled man was right. What girl didn't like romance?
The man was a chatterbox. He held Lin Yi back to talk to him about romantic things, while his fiancée noticed Tangtang in the stroller.
The little one lay quietly in the stroller, so tiny, just like Sleeping Beauty.
"What a beautiful baby. Is she a girl?"
"Yes, and the one my husband is holding is a boy."
"So they're dragon and phoenix twins. How wonderful."
After hearing Su Wanqing's answer, the woman's face was full of envy.
Seeing the woman gently stroke her belly, Su Wanqing looked at her slightly rounded tummy and concluded that she was pregnant.
"Congratulations. You're going to be a mother too."
"Hm? Thank you."
The woman was a little curious. She hadn't said anything, so how had Su Wanqing figured it out?
Afraid the woman might misunderstand, Su Wanqing hurriedly explained, "I saw you gently stroking your belly, so I thought you must be an expectant mother."
"Yes, I'm just three months along. My husband doesn't know yet. I'm planning to tell him the good news after we get our certificate."
"I'm sure the baby's father will be very happy when he finds out."
Su Wanqing spoke with a smile, happy for the expectant mother as well.
The Civil Affairs Bureau seemed to know that many people would be registering their marriages over these two days, so every counter was staffed.
The long line moved quickly. As the counter drew nearer and nearer, Lin Yi began to worry that Hu Hailin wouldn't deliver the veil in time.
While he was worrying, Hu Hailin came running over, his footsteps going "tap, tap." He was overjoyed when he saw Lin Yi.
"President Lin, here's the veil you wanted."
"Old Hu, thanks for making the trip."
Lin Yi took the veil and looked at him with satisfaction. He had to admit, it had arrived just in time.
"It was no trouble, no trouble at all. As long as I didn't delay your important business, President Lin."
"Then let me be the first to congratulate you and Vice President Su on getting your license to take up your posts."
"We've received your good wishes. You can go back now."
Hu Hailin nodded and took his leave. Was this what they called three minutes on stage for an hour of preparation?
After Hu Hailin left, Lin Yi put the veil on Su Wanqing's head and looked at her tenderly. "Wife, you look so beautiful in a veil. I'm really looking forward to the day we have our wedding."
"Husband... you actually heard what I said back then?"
"Mm. I thought you'd really like one, so I had Old Hu make the trip. If I hadn't been afraid you'd worry, I would have gone myself."
Lin Yi was telling the truth. He was afraid Su Wanqing would think he was trying to flee the marriage if he stayed away too long. Then he wouldn't be able to wash himself clean even by jumping into the Yellow River.
So he picked Hu Hailin as the lucky one.
Hearing about everything Lin Yi had done for her, Su Wanqing was so touched that her eyes filled with tears.
Seeing this, Lin Yi comforted her. "Wife, today is a joyous day. You won't look pretty if you cry."
"Mm, you're right. Husband~ thank you."
Su Wanqing nodded in agreement, then tilted her little head up to keep the tears in her eyes from falling.
Looking at his silly wife before him, Lin Yi dotingly stroked her head.
Thinking of what a happy occasion marriage was, Lin Yi didn't understand why Jiang Xuan was so opposed to it.
Everyone had their own thoughts, so Lin Yi stopped thinking about it.
The bespectacled man who had been ahead of Lin Yi had heard Hu Hailin call him President Lin when delivering the veil. The man instantly understood why Lin Yi didn't know romance: the man's cash powers could instantly crush everything else.
