Subaru died repeatedly in the forest before Rem rescued him and brought him to the Oni village, where he built a new life through work, magic, and invention. His growing independence strained his bond with Rem, but they reconciled in the forest and fled together from a giant crocodile.

• Subaru appeared in a dense forest, died to a horned crocodile, then returned to life after each death until Rem rescued him from an oil bog.
• Rem and Ram fought off a pack of horned crocodile mabeasts, then brought Subaru to the Oni village, where Setanta allowed him to stay under Rem’s supervision.
• Subaru learned about Lugunica, the Witch Cult, and the White Whale while trying to work and learn magic, then struggled to keep pace with the Oni villagers.
• Subaru rescued an injured young Ground Dragon and befriended a red Lesser Spirit, which he named Antares after forming a contract with it.
• Subaru used his magic and Antares to help villagers, made and sold lighters, and bought a magic pistol and a heavy shortsword for training.
• As villagers crowded around Subaru’s successful lighter business, Rem felt replaced and told him they were not friends, then went alone into the forest at night.
• Subaru caught up with Rem as Witchbeasts attacked, apologized for making her lonely, and reassured her that she was his friend and that she had helped him survive.
• Subaru and Rem fought their way through the forest, escaped a crushing attack, and discovered that a giant crocodile was pursuing them.

Subaru and Rem survived the Shadow Crocodile and grew closer, but the Witch Cult attacked the Oni village with contaminated mana. After repeated deaths and a disastrous attempt to save everyone, Subaru was left searching for a way forward as Rem’s familiar voice reached him at the end of another loop.

• Subaru and Rem defeated the Shadow Crocodile with help from Rem’s awakened Oni power, then Ram rescued them and Subaru reassured Rem that he needed her.
• Subaru moved into his new house, where Rem confessed her love and asked to travel with him, and they promised to revisit their relationship when she was older.
• Witch Cultists attacked the village, contaminated the mana, and killed Subaru and many villagers before a mysterious figure destroyed them.
• After returning by death, Subaru warned the village and led the Oni in an assault on the Witch Cult, but the Cultists spread contamination that set horn-using Oni ablaze.
• Subaru escaped with Rem and Ram on a Ground Dragon, but the White Whale forced Rem to leave them behind, and Ram no longer remembered her sister.
• Regulus Corneas killed Ram, and a clown-faced man killed Subaru, beginning another loop.
• Subaru confessed Return by Death to Rem, prompting a silver-haired figure to kill her, and Ram blamed Subaru before Rem’s final plea stopped her from harming him.
• Ram hurled Subaru from the village, and Subaru fought Witch Cultists until he succumbed to his wounds, hearing a familiar blue-haired girl’s affectionate voice as he died.
