Succession
- Selection by the weapon: Celestial Person Divine Weapons actively choose suitable masters. Taking a weapon by force does not guarantee the ability to use it 41 64.
- Inherited Dao: Each weapon preserves the Dao of its original Weapon Lord, together with Celestial Person martial arts and the cultivation insights of successive wielders 36 70.
- Continuous inheritance: Unlike ordinary Celestial Person legacies, the weapons have maintained their lines of succession across generations 39 41.
- Restricted destination: Successor Weapon Lords cannot become true Celestial Persons or compete for that position, although their weapons can grant Celestial Person-level combat strength 39 41.
- No immediate ascension: Inherited knowledge does not bypass cultivation. Weapon Lords must still advance step by step and establish their foundations in Qi and Blood, Blood Exchange, and Innate cultivation 49.
Known Weapon Lords
| Weapon Lord | Divine Weapon | Affiliation | Documented Details |
|---|---|---|---|
| Liang Chi | Water Dragon Flag, one of the Five-Colored Great Dragon Flags | Five Dragons Cult, Yue State | Ranked tenth on the Hidden Dragon Ranking as a Divine Intention Great Grandmaster. An expert from the Five Dragons Cult took him away and compensated the Clearwater Sect with pills and treasures 41 46. |
| Jin Chuan | Seven Stars God-Slaying Spear | Brocade-Clad Guard; Wuling County Hundred Household Office | Revealed his weapon while pursuing a Great Grandmaster who practiced the Wedding Robe Divine Art. Later met Xu Fan in Bingzhou 64 68. |
| Xia Qianqian | Myriad Spirits Three Lives Diagram; specifically chosen by the long-lost Future Diagram | Clearwater Sect; subsequently taken to the Three Lives Pavilion | Became a Weapon Lord despite previously being absent from the Hidden Dragon Ranking. Later controlled both the Present Diagram and Future Diagram 64 70 71. |
| Shentu Yun | Great Wilderness Demon-Slaying Saber | Saber-Nurturing Valley | Already ranked second on the Hidden Dragon Ranking before his Weapon Lord status was confirmed. His succession made Fu Yuanwu consider defeating him impossible 41 81. |
Suspected Wielders
- Yan Chunqiu — Bai Lianxin believed the Four Symbols Mountain Manor disciple had probably obtained a Celestial Person Divine Weapon, but his status was not confirmed in the supplied account 52.
- Xu Fan — Initially suspected of possessing a divine weapon after Mu Fangjin’s death. Observers later favored a Celestial Person inheritance as the explanation for his strength; Bai Lianxin nevertheless reconsidered the Weapon Lord possibility after his later feats 36 39 81.
Abilities & Skills
Accumulated Cultivation Insights
A Weapon Lord receives the experience of the weapon’s previous masters, greatly accelerating both cultivation and combat development 41 46.
- The inheritance is compared to having generations of Weapon Lords as sparring partners, or receiving constant guidance from a Celestial Person 46 67.
- Successors can improve upon inherited knowledge, making almost every generation stronger than its predecessors 41.
- The benefit remains substantial even when divine abilities are forbidden in a contest. Fu Yuanwu cited this inherited guidance when explaining Shentu Yun’s overwhelming advantage 81.
Divine Abilities
Celestial Person Divine Weapons contain divine abilities that their masters can invoke before reaching the Land Immortal realm 36 46.
- Higher-realm killing power: A Weapon Lord can use these abilities to kill opponents above their own cultivation realm 36 46.
- Physical burden: Lower-level wielders struggle to withstand activation and do not use these abilities lightly 46.
- Reduced cost with advancement: The stronger the wielder’s cultivation, the smaller the price of activation 52.
- Recovery requirement: Jin Chuan expected forcibly using his weapon’s divine ability to require a long period of recuperation 69.
Celestial Person Dharma Domains
A Land Immortal Weapon Lord can activate the Celestial Person Dharma Domain contained in their weapon 46 69.
- This adds the weapon’s domain to the divine ability gained through the wielder’s own Land Immortal advancement 69.
- A fully developed Weapon Lord can consequently wield combat strength on the level of a Celestial Person without attaining that realm 39 67.
Weapon-Specific Strengths
The nine divine weapons have different specialties; their wielders do not all possess identical combat capabilities 67.
- The bow, saber, spear, and sword are identified as the four weapons with the greatest killing power 67.
- Jin Chuan’s Seven Stars God-Slaying Spear is particularly suited to slaughter. He believed its divine ability could let him kill a Primal Core cultivator while he was still a Great Grandmaster 67.
- Xia Qianqian’s Present Diagram and Future Diagram allow her to observe the present and possible future events. Using the Future Diagram subjected her to backlash 70 71.
Power and Limitations
| Aspect | Established Capability or Restriction |
|---|---|
| Same-realm combat | Weapon Lords are widely regarded as invincible within their own realm, with exceptional strength even without activating a divine ability 46 67. |
| Cross-realm combat | Their weapons allow them to threaten or kill opponents in higher realms 36 46. |
| Cultivation speed | Extremely rapid, but still dependent on sequential breakthroughs and a solid foundation 41 49. |
| Ultimate attainment | Successors cannot become true Celestial Persons, but can attain comparable combat strength 39 41. |
| Survival | Their expected future greatness depends on surviving long enough to develop; it is not unconditional immortality or protection from defeat 64 71. |
| Resistance to Celestial Persons | Lan Ci states that even a newly advanced Celestial Person could defeat, but not kill, a Weapon Lord at full strength 41. |
Exceptions to the Invincibility Reputation
- The self-proclaimed reincarnated banished immortal: Three thousand years earlier, a man who emerged as a Land Immortal suppressed several contemporary Weapon Lords and claimed that millennium’s Celestial Person position 38.
- Demon Venerable Pang Wuji: The first pavilion master considered him no weaker than a same-level Weapon Lord and potentially capable of defeating one. Later discussion stresses that this comparison remained an inference from his battle record, not a confirmed victory over a Weapon Lord 70 71 78.
- Xu Fan’s pagoda victory: Xu Fan defeated a same-realm phantom of Saber-Nurturing Valley’s first-generation Weapon Lord. This was a trial against a preserved consciousness, not a victory over a living successor wielding the divine weapon 76.
History
Original Weapon Lords
The nine original Weapon Lords were Celestial Persons from roughly ten thousand years earlier. Their divine weapons preserved their Dao and became the foundation of later Weapon Lord successions. Yin Moon was the first to attain Celestial Personhood after these nine, but she did not forge a comparable divine weapon; later Celestial Persons likewise ceased using such weapons to transmit their inheritances 39 70 75.
Saber-Nurturing Valley preserves a trace of its first Weapon Lord’s consciousness in the Fallen Star Pagoda. On the twelfth floor, this conscious phantom fights challengers at their own realm while retaining Celestial Person-level combat experience. Its parting suggestion that it might meet Xu Fan again led him to wonder whether the original Weapon Lords remained alive beyond the Heavenly Gate, but he did not confirm this 75 76.
Successive Generations
Weapon Lords appear during eras when the world’s heroes contest the Celestial Person position. Although successors cannot claim that position themselves, they fight powerful opponents to strengthen their foundations 41.
Attempts to murder them and seize their weapons have occurred repeatedly over ten thousand years. Most targeted wielders escaped, matured, and eventually destroyed the forces that had opposed them 64.
Current Awakening
Before the present resurgence, no Weapon Lord had appeared for a thousand years, and the dormant divine weapons left the Celestial Person sects unable to resolve threats such as the Wedding Robe Ancestor. The weapons began showing signs of awakening only in recent years 64.
Liang Chi’s emergence was followed by the public discovery of Jin Chuan and Xia Qianqian. Shentu Yun’s succession was subsequently confirmed within Saber-Nurturing Valley, altering expectations for its Great Reversion Pill competition 41 64 81.
The Future Diagram’s Warning
- Vision: Xia Qianqian saw an unidentified figure wielding yin and yang defeat seven Weapon Lords alone and melt down all nine Celestial Person Divine Weapons 70.
- Significance: The first pavilion master believed even Celestial Persons could not destroy the weapons. Xia Qianqian also sensed fear within their spirituality and questioned whether the danger had caused their awakening 70.
- Unidentified attacker: Pang Wuji was considered, while other candidates were discussed without a firm conclusion. Xu Fan was suggested but dismissed by the first pavilion master 70 71.
- Response: The Three Lives Pavilion resolved to alert the other Celestial Person sects and Weapon Lords. The destruction remained a foreseen possibility, not an event that had already occurred 71.
